TONE DISTRIBUTION ON EWE NOUNS Tone is known to be very important in most Ghanaian languages.

For instance in languages like Ewe, Ga and Akan, tone is phonemic. That is to say that tone brings about the differences in the meaning of two otherwise very similar words (Duthie 1996, Dakubu 2002, Dolphyne 1988). For example in Ewe, dz fire has a different meaning from dz go on the basis of tone differences. A similar argument holds for Ga (e.g. l sing and l fire) and Akan (pp good and pp fan). According to Duthie (1996), Ewe has three types of tone: High (H), Low (L) and Mid (M) tones. In this research, particular attention would be paid to how tone is distributed on disyllabic Ewe nouns. For instance dv child(cvcv) and t stick (vcv) share a similar tonal pattern though they differ in syllable structure while ayi beans (vcv) and enyi eight (vcv) have totally different tone distribution. This observation of tone distribution in the Ewe language makes it curious for one to find out whether any kind of tonal combinations (e.g. HH, LL, LH, LM, MH, etc.) are possible in the language.

The Importance of Gbegamey Market in the development of the people of Cotonou (Benin) The project was a bout a market in Cotonou, Benin (Gbegamey Market). Having realized how busy the market was, I deemed it necessary to research on its importance to the people in the area. The research formed part of my one-year abroad program. As a French student in University of Ghana, it was undertaken in the University of Abomey-Calavi( Centre Beninois

dEtudes en Langues Etrangere) in the Republic of Benin, in the 2002/03 academic year, under the supervision of Mr. H.C..Tossou. The following were the findings:
1. The market men and women paid tax ranging between 50-100 cfa daily. This gave them a

total of 200, 000 cfa every month. Taxes generated were used in the provision of potable water; KVIP, schools, and a training centre where tax collected were being trained.
2. The market users also played important political roles during election of all kinds. They

helped the office of the Mayor to make sure that the elections were free and fair. For example, in order to help in the free and fair elections, they went to the polling centers with lantern when there was a general light off.

I can be described as a very pleasant, active and intelligent man. I am able to work with everybody and meet deadlines no matter the circumstance. One of my distinguishing characteristics is that I pay attention to every detail to ensure that every project I undertake is successful even if I have to work over-time. My only weakness is that I detest doing so many things at a time as it does not afford me the opportunity to critically examine every detail.
