Post-Conference Masterclass on Failure Analysis of Gas Turbine Components: Techniques and Case Studies
Ably led by Dr Maxine Watson, General Manager, Materials Engineering, and Dr Michael Henderson, Senior Consultant Materials Engineer, Quest Reliability Ltd

About Your Masterclass Leaders

Dr Maxine Watson Dr Maxine Watson has a BSc (Hons) and PhD in Materials Engineering and is the General Manager, Materials Engineering for Quest Reliability (formerly MPT Solutions Ltd). She is currently based in Wellington NZ but also manages laboratories in Brisbane Australia and Denver USA. Maxine began career in the Nuclear industry with the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority and has held several senior positions including Head of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering for the National Centre of Tribology in the UK. She has over 20 years experience in root cause failure diagnosis, failure prevention and remediation, specialising in rotating equipment. Maxine provides independent advice and expert reports for legal cases both (criminal and civil), insurance cases and for other investigatory bodies including Government Health and Safety Executives, Defence Organisations and in support of industrial engineering failure investigations and accident investigations etc. Maxine was one of the founders of the UK National Pump Centre, a past member of the Institute of Materials surface engineering committee and Institute of Mechanical Engineers Tribology Group and was on the advisory board for the National Pump Centre. Dr Michael Henderson Before joining Quest Reliability (formerly MPT Solutions Ltd), Michael worked for ALSTOM Power Turbo Systems and the Defence Evaluation and Research Agency in England, specialising in the performance of high temperature nickel and steel alloys and coatings utilised in steam and gas turbines. Michael is a chartered engineering with B.Met(Hons), a DPhil in Materials Science and is a Fellow of the Institute of Mining, Minerals and Materials. Michael specialises in life assessment methodologies and materials properties for high temperature plant, in particular steam and gas turbines. He also has extensive knowledge of mechanical testing, thermo-mechanical fatigue, creep and plastic deformation, fracture mechanics & fatigue, solidification, manufacturing processes & surface engineering. Michael has wide experience of conducting new and service exposed parts assessments, failure investigations as well as test and materials laboratory management. He has many years experience on the use of optical and electron microscopy (TEM, EBSP and SEM) techniques and X-ray crystallography.
