How to Install R on Your Computer...?

(For Windows Operating System)

The R software can be downloaded and installed in a very simple steps and it is ready to use. Follow instructions given below for a standard setup. The alternative are available, one can explore them later. Step 1: Open your browser (e.g., Chrome, Internet Explorer, etc) and visit www.rproject.org/ Step 2.

Click on Download R Step 3: Choose Any CRAN Mirrors. Eg. India: http://ftp.iitm.ac.in/cran/ Step 4. Click on Download R for Windows. The red arrow is not a part of installation but indicator added by me.

Step 5. Click on Base Step 6: Click on Download R 2.15.3 for Windows (47 megabytes, 32/64 bit).

Step 7: this will download R to your computer. Once it is downloaded you can Run it from your computer by double clicking the file R-2.15.3-win.exe

Step 8. Click on Run Step 9. Select the language as English and follow the instructions.

This will open the R setup wizard. A message Welcome to the R for Windows 2.15.3 setup Wizard. Keep clicking on Next till the installation is over. Click Next

The next box that opens is Information. It is interesting reading material which you can otherwise get to read on websites also.

Click Next

Then installation process will ask you to select the destination location. Accept default, unless you want to change it. Click Next

Then keep clicking on Next option for all remaining dialog boxes and the R installation will start. The following screen will appear.

Once the installation is over, the screen given below will appear. Click on Finish and R is installed on your computer.

Step 10. Once R is installed you can Run R from Start menu as you do it with any software. R will open like following window. This means that R installation is complete.

The screen will show following information R version 2.15.3 (2013-03-01) -- "Security Blanket" Copyright (C) 2013 The R Foundation for Statistical Computing ISBN 3-900051-07-0 Platform: i386-w64-mingw32/i386 (32-bit) R is free software and comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY. You are welcome to redistribute it under certain conditions. Type 'license()' or 'licence()' for distribution details. Natural language support but running in an English locale R is a collaborative project with many contributors. Type 'contributors()' for more information and 'citation()' on how to cite R or R packages in publications. Type 'demo()' for some demos, 'help()' for on-line help, or 'help.start()' for an HTML browser interface to help. Type 'q()' to quit R.

> This means the installation is complete. The R is all yours and you can start exploring it. Perhaps worlds best statistical software is now working on your PC. Have fun.
