Since the U.S. and Iraq signed a Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) in 2005, trade between the two countries has increased significantly. The TIFA aims to build economic ties between the two countries and to attract foreign direct investment. In 2012, however, U.S. goods exports to Iraq declined by 15.4 percent to $2.04 billion, while goods imports from Iraq grew 13.59 percent to $19.26 billion. Oil & Gas constituted almost all of U.S. imports, at $19.24 billion, with Petroleum & Coal Products following at $20.14 million.
