2012 Ranking: 118th Largest Export Market for U.S. Goods (2011: 125th)
In 2012, overall trade to Mauritania from the United States improved, with U.S. exports to Mauritania increasing by 13.7 percent to $276.7 million. Mauritanian exports to the U.S., however, decreased by 28.08 percent to $694,000, with top Mauritanian exports including Miscellaneous Manufactured Commodities (at $326,500), Fish & Other Marine Products (at $216,000), and Computer & Electronic Equipment (at $55,500). In 2009, Mauritanias eligibility for U.S. trade benefits under the African Growth and Opportunities Act of 2000 was reinstated, which extends preferential access for imports from beneficiary Sub-Saharan African countries until September 2015.
