3/ Essai

Points which should be included in the essay Candidates introduce the retirement scheme in France with its advantages and inconveniences, the public and private system and the current situation The current system is simply too expensive. The state pension is paid for by current taxpayers. And retirees are a two-fold problem for the current workforce. o Firstly, they are living longer and therefore need pensions for longer. o The government says the retirement age hasn't kept pace with longer life expectancy. o When the first contributory state pension was introduced in 1926, only a third of men and 40% of women were expected to live to see their 65th birthday. o Currently, life expectancy for people reaching 60 is 86 for men and 89 for women. o So someone retiring in their 60s could now spend almost a third of their lives in retirement and drawing a state pension. That's unaffordable, especially in such austere economic times. o In addition, the 1960s baby boom means there are more people entering retirement with fewer workers born since to pay for them. A two-fold solution is suggested. Raising the age at which both men and women can draw their state pension is one. Each yearly rise would give the state one year less of pension payments. Staff could then stay in their jobs for as long as they were willing and able to do them, with the state pension waiting for them as a cushion once they decided to retire. At present, 60 is the both the DRA and the age at which men can draw the state pension. The DRA for women is also 60, and their state pension age has just started a gradual budge-up from 60 to match that of men's. The second part is to abolish the Default Retirement Age (DRA) at which workers can be forced to retire. Of course, if you have a private pension you can choose when to draw that, from the age of 55. It is not possible to be completely accurate but if state pension entitlement was postponed by a year for the 690,000 men and women now eligible it it would save 3.5bn a year, and another 3.5bn a year for every extra year. That saving will obviously rise as the number of pensioners taken out of the system expands with the 1960s baby boomers coming up for retirement. The candidates give their own opinion and develop their own plans for their personal retirement scheme Vocabulary + spelling+quality of language Grammar Originality of ideas TOTAL
