DISINFECTION

PROTOCOL

FOR

CONTROLLING

GANGRENOUS DERMATITIS (WING ROT) IN CL. Controlling GD involves three steps: 1.Disinfection program 2.Vaccination: IBD & CAV 3.Management Disinfection program starts once the chicks are transferred to grower shed. Proper disinfection program (Terminal Disinfection Program) and hygienic program to reduce the bacterial load in the farm are the main steps in controlling GD. Disinfection program The generalized protocol for cleaning and disinfecting the house can be divided into three part:a) Before cleaning b) Cleaning and Washing c) Terminal disinfection. It is recommended that the protocol be implemented without any deviation at farms with disease history. BEFORE CLEANING 1) Kill rodents 2) Prepare products and Equipment

3) Educate personnel 4) Apply insecticide on litter

5)

Clean house surrounding Remove all Feeders, Drinkers and other removable.

6) Drain out water systems

7)

CLEANING AND WASHING 1) Preliminary dry cleaning Removing all organic maters like manure, feathers etc is essential as they are a major source of infection. High level of soiling will reduce subsequent effectiveness of cleaning and disinfection. 2) Sweep and scrub 3) Thoroughly wash the floor, cages, walls and the roof with pressure water jet. 4) Thoroughly wash the outside of the house: with the help of a pressure washer wash the house top to bottom from outside, after closing the curtains. It is mandatory to wash the extended portion of the roof outside the shed, ventilation equipment etc. NOTE: to make the washing effective UNIVERSAL BARN CLEANER @ 1-2ml/lt of water is recommended. 5) Check the wire mesh and house to prevent entry of rodents and wild birds. 6) Repairs 7) Water system disinfection: a. Calculate the amount of water the internal drinking lines would hold. b. Take that quantity of water in the internal tank with stopper cork closed. c. Add AQUAMAX @ 5% ie add 5lt of AQUAMAX in 95 lt of water.
d. e.

Make sure that the solution has reached the end of the waterline. For effective disinfection and descaling allow the solution to remain for 12-18 hours.

f. Power flush the water lines with water and allow it to remain dry till the new ones arrive.

TERMINAL DISINFECTION 1. STEP 1: After the cleaning is complete, drench wet the house from top to bottom with the help of a power sprayer with B904 @ 160ml in 40 lt of water for 1000 sq.ft area. 2. STEP 2: Drench wet the entire floors with strong solution of caustic soda with pH above 12, and for 12-24 hours. Then drain out water completely. ( Dose:110-120g caustic soda/100 lt of water for 1000 sqft area) 3. Use of flame gun: After drying, use of flame gun on the floor is very important. Dont just pass with the flame gun. You have to feel the heat when you stand inside the farm. Burning is effective in removing organic matter. Use flame gun outside the shed also. 4.STEP 4: THERMAL FOGGING: i. ii.
iii.

Make sure that the house is thoroughly washed and cleaned. Make sure that the house is air tight. Proper sealing of the house is Use VBFA400/BIOPHENE/B904 2 lt drug+3 lt water for 8000 Keep the shed closed for 4 weeks. Do not allow any activity or any

person to enter. 5. Spray formalin @5ml/lt or BIOPHENE @4ml/lt outside the house. 6. STEP 5:
a.

After the brooding arrangements are over, light spray of B904 or

ATTAK or BIOBUSTER should be done. This is to make sure the

disinfection after the outside entry of persons and materials for brooding arrangements. Dose: 4ml B904/lt of water for 125 sqft area. OTHER POINTS:
1.

Restriction of people movement:

a.

Unnecessary entry by any visitor should not be allowed another)

b. Minimize the workers movement inside the farm (from one shed to c. Do not allow workers to move from laying house to brooding house. 2. Foot Baths:
a.

Foot baths should be provided at the entrance of the farm. Use BIOPHENE @ 8ml/lt of water. Periodic change of solution, when the solution is visibly soiled, is necessary.

3. Drinking water sanitation:

a.

Always use sanitized water for birds drinking purpose. Use SAFEGARD @ 1ml/10 lt of water.

II. VACCINATION a. IBD control: Proper IBD vaccination program is crucial in controlling GD. Better to the check the Mab titres and design the IBD vaccination program. b. Vaccination against CAV: CAV live vaccine (oral drop) can be done on 21st - 24th day to minimize the chance of GD. III. Regularly (atleast weekly once) use disinfectants like B904/ VBFA 400 spray inside the shed to reduce the pathogen load. IV. Kindly check the feed and water for bacterial load. V. Regular use of AGP like Bacitracin in the feed is beneficial.

VI. Use of good quality toxin binder is necessary for good immunity. VII. FIBOSEL @ 100g/ton of feed from 1st week to 12th week is beneficial in stimulating immunity. III. MANAGEMENT: Strictly follow the recommendations of the Layer Management Guide given by VH Pvt.Ltd. In particular, the floor space must be adequate. Age 0-7w 8-15w 16w-cull Floor space/bird 40.5sq.inch 60 sq.inch 65 sq.inch

Never delay the transfer of birds from chick to grower house more than 7 weeks.
