HCLT Core Products

Product landscape is undergoing a major and fast paced transformation based on ever-changing customer needs. User experience and value-centricity are becoming the two key philosophies driving differentiation for product companies. Products of tomorrow will have to look outside the product for differentiation as products become platforms. The mantra for market leadership is no longer associated with only patents and product features but with ecosystem creation and leveraging the platforms. Lets take an example Cars. Most cars in the same value category are today nearly undifferentiated on standard technical features engine performance suspensions, power train, configuration etc. Automotive manufacturers are bringing differentiation by making the car as a platform to offer differentiated services next generation telematics, seamless integration of entertainment from home to car; recommendations based on location based services are the buzz words of the industry. End customer user experience is driving this change as we move to a connected & converged world and investment in ecosystem creation around products is the only way product companies can maintain market share & leadership. To address this revised marketplace, HCL looks to not only provide core product development services but also aid customers in creating ecosystem advantages around their products, either through collaborative strategic services or through HCL Productized Solutions. This is what we call Engineering out of the Boxor EOOTB in short.

The 3 tenets of EOOTB are:

1. Core Product

This includes leveraging HCLs multi-disciplinary design and development expertise. HCL is focused on enabling Full system development, Product development life cycle services based on industry domain expertise; customers develop cutting edge next gen products along Innovation, Completeness, Criticality, Complexity and Cost of ownership. For example for Fortune 500 software company HCL owns complete product management, design, development, test & support for their security software that receives 40 million signatures downloads within 30 min of a virus attack. Similarly for one of the largest Aerospace companies in the world, HCL is involved in developing 20 of the major mission critical and complex avionics systems.
2. Ecosystem Innovation

Extend the competence of core products by creating platforms for ecosystem innovation. This is where HCL has invested in creating 20+ productized solutions that provide immediate time to market advantage to customers. HCL solutions are on Mobility, Cloud, Collaboration, Online, Convergence, Smart Devices, and Green etc. that are leveraged by customers across multiple industry segments. One of the biggest impacts in ecosystem innovation is around Cloud. With the availability of multiple platforms and smart devices, customers are looking for a partner who will help them understand how they can leverage cloud to their benefit, what benefits they can expect and also SaaS-ification of their existing applications. HCL has developed 3 productized solutions to cater to these needs. Cirrus the windows Azure enablement and management software, Nimbo the HCL framework to jump start private/ hybrid cloud service for customers and Agora to enable quick SaaS-ification of existing applications.
3. User Experience

For increased adoption of products thru the ecosystem, its critical that an improved user experience is provided to the customers. The user experience is determined by the form factor, real time and role based experience. EOOTB brings the user experience beyond the consumer realm and make it equally important into other domains as well like Auto, Financial, Medical, Online, Industrial and more. HCL has created a smart home automation solution AEGIS that is a multiplatform gateway which controls multimedia, energy monitoring, HVAC, security and more, all through Android, iOS and Symbian devices, and using multiple wireless standards. In spite of the solutions being comprehensive the key is to deliver this in an intuitive and simple way to ensure that ease of operations and manageability is the most important aspect for higher adoption and impact.

EOOTB CONCEPTS Selecting a team of 500 from among its engineers and managers, the company created EOOTB as the process by which HCLT would transform it self from a product services company to a solutions and services company. The new EOOTB model was based on developing customized products to suit the customers needs. The new EOOTB model was based on a process where the templates, business stocks and customers unique ideas were formed into 16 standarlized products.

EOOTB CUSTOMER BENEFITS It improved the customers ability to launch simultaneously in different geographics in both developed and emerging markets, this was because the company could onboard applications on a platform well before the end user in an emerging market could even visualized the need.

HCL PRODUCTIZED SOLUTIONS-

r-med Used by original equipment manufacturer for building medical devices such as scanners.

AGORA It was a cloud Service management platform that was used by enterprises and customers driving cloud adaption.

Another example-ITS Ecell, which was developed by HCLT ERS for the automotive segments.

CONCLUSION
Companies can no longer rely on product or technological innovation alone to remain competitive. By combining product, communicators technology and software together into solutions that gather, analyze and manage data, companies are able to offer greater value to their customers. In this new model, organizations deconstruct the innovation value chain and source pieces from partners that posses lower costs, better skills and access to knowledge that can provide a source of different HCL UNIQUE EOOTB APPROCH IS SIGNIFICANT BECAUSE Expands a products ecosystem by focusing on solutions. Minimize a companys time to market and Increases the products adaption by focusing on user need and experience.
