THE COPYRIGHT PROTECTION

The Copyright Protection in the Era of Networking

In recent years, along with the network times development, everything seems to be more convenient all the rage the Internet world. In my country, if you want the newest songs, just kick your mouse through the Internet. And if you want to watch the most famous movies, you can download them for free as well. However, there is no such thing as free lunch. While cyber citizens enjoy the free stuffs, the authors and directors get into a flap. In this day and age, the copyright protection is becoming more and more difficult, and it is already hotly argued. The Internet has changed the way how traditional knowledge circulates, and the constitution and the pattern of traditional copyright rights constraints are facing restructuring. Last year one of the famous applications called PP was accused because it provided the links for people to download movies for free by using P2P (peer to peer). Rumour has it that the famous applications such as PP, BT, Xunlei are all using P2P, and these applications are widespread used by downloading free movies and music. That is why people usually call it piratic music or movie. But the P2P technology has nothing wrong itself, so the proper usage and distribution of copyrighted multimedia content in P2P networks has become increasingly critical. (Defa, 2011) The Sonny Bono Copyright Term Extension Act decided to extend the copy terms in US by 20 years. Actually it is hard for me to say I support it or not. One side I think it is definitely we need to protect the copyright for the creators, because people pay a lot of attention on what they did. And think of if someone stole what you did, you must be very sad. However, on the other side, as a full-time student, I want music, movie and everything can be free to free. I do not want to waste money. For instance, I would spend more than 100 dollars for buying one

THE COPYRIGHT PROTECTION textbook, then I found the eBook through the website based on my country and it just cost me 2 dollars. And even the friends here from different countries asked me to buy the cheap eBooks for them, because everyone knows the way to save money. However, it did not protect the copyright at all. Nevertheless, although I am struggling, I still think to protect the copyright is necessary. The environment of networking is as same as the environment in reality, and people need to protect intellectual property right including copyright in both environments. First of all, we need to make sure everyone especially the international people in US has the sense of protecting the copyright. Because people there come from different countries and have different backgrounds, and some of countries do not have the special law for it. Secondly, the government may try to reduce the fees of movies, music and textbooks to make sure everyone can afford it. Now the price of one textbook may cost more than my daily expenses for one month. Thirdly, courts should clarify that aggregators expose themselves to copyright liability when they ignore robots exclusion protocols. (Jasiewicz, 2012) Last but not least, we can also strengthen the theological power to manger the supervision of network opinion. The government should enact more laws or regulations to supervise IC, leads to the normal track it from one side of the shortcoming.
