Mainstreaming Disabilities
Raising awareness Clnd sensitizing ourselves is a
mere start, since we are trying to become a truly
inclusive society. We are then to pursue actively the
implementation of framed policies to ensure the
benefits of mainstreaming the disabled persons.. So
that all m.embers of our society enjoy the benefits
fully &freely as membc]'s not only for our self help
groups but also as member of the wider family of
BISWA. In such a way the human rights of all our
family members should be protected (Ind upheld. On
the othe,' hand stigma and discrimination in any
form must be eliminated. Since we all crave for
inclusion, 50 the inclusion to be observed in every
respect. A merefincmcial indusion is not enoughfor
over all development of our society) which have
many deprivations in its manifolds. BISWA has
launched this new initiative to erzal>le people Who
are HIVpositive or who have a disability to become
members of its' SHGs. It is a shift from previous
policies, under which such persons were excluded.
Now we realize such exclusion is a deprivation and
we must take care of it. We would like to "eiterute
that it is a mere beginning and "we have miles to go
be/ore we sleep". Such mainstreClming is the ultimate
responsibility of we, NGOs, as the government may
give a dictum in this field & the real doers are we.
Moreover such mainstreaming would be the order
of the day in the ensuing era, where deprivation in
many afields are to be identified. Obviollsly the new
order world expect'S such interventions from NGO
sector, like ours.
