Millennial

My colleague almost passed out from surprise, and reached out to touch me to make sure that I wasnt an alien when I told her that I dont have a cellphone. She wasnt overreacting because it is, indeed, extremely unusual to find a twenty year old living in 2013 without a phone. The evolution of time can have a big influence on the behavior of people living in a society; therefore each generation has its own characteristics. Following the Generation X is the one called Millennial; into this category fall those who were born in the late seventies up to these days. There is a large gap between the millennial generation and the others. That generation is different in that people pertaining to that age group have a new way of thinking regarding many social issues; they are very dependent on technology, and they are very educated. Millennials are the people that are assigned the adjective young today. Not only because theyve lived for a relatively short amount of time now, but also because their mentalities have shifted very far from the older generations. People that came into the world after 1977 perceive some social issues with a different eye. For instance, twenty years ago homosexuality was a taboo subject, and it was a shame to be openly gay. Today the boundaries of the term family have largely extended; millennials are talking about modern family where two men or women are raising kids. That generation is more open in general. It is considered normal that people have multiple tattoos and piercings, sex is not a banned subject anymore, and the society have become more diverse because interracial marriage is more frequent. The 21 st century is somewhat unique because of the way the millennial generation has reshaped the society by tossing the old ideas to take on the new. A young lady once stated that she would die without her iPhone; that affirmation demonstrates how dependent on technology the millennial generation is. During the past decade there has been a boom in the world of technology. Nowadays, phones are smart, computers are even more complicated, tablets are the new trend, and gadgets

are super independent. This constitutes a giant step that has made life easier, but it has also made people lazier. Now everything is done virtually, shopping, banking, learning, and even dating. Millennials have fallen into the habit of letting electronic devices replace their brains, so they dont pick up a book to read they buy an app to read it for them, they dont their assignments they copy whatever information is on the internet. However, the fact that technology stands at its peak has given more meaning to the concept of globalization. The world is now a village, thanks to the evolution of communication. High Technology defines the millennial generation for that it is the most special trait of that generation. Education has always been important, but the millennial generation emphasizes a lot on it which is why a study revealed that millennials are on the course to become the most educated generation in American history. A source describing that generation indicated that grade points are rising with this generation and crime is falling they see college as the key to a high paying job and success. In fact, a study has shown that in the recent years they amount of people in their twenties enrolling in graduate schools and colleges has increased. Also because of the easy access to information, people know more about any given subject. They want to learn to have better chances in a highly competitive market. Millennials are more educated than older adults due to the place knowledge has taken in todays society. My colleague almost had a heart attack when she heard me saying that I dont possess a phone because thats an unfamiliar fact for the generation I pertain to. Each generation has its own characteristics that make for its uniqueness. The millennial generation is very different from the preceding ones mostly because of the way peoples minds have changed over the years. Also for the reason that millennials are very focused on achieving their educational goals and they are strongly attached to technology. The millennial generation may claim to be the most interesting so far, but it is probably the most problematic yet.
