Im Krista Vicente and I will be reporting about some problems of our community that contribute to the destruction of Biodiversity. First of all, lets take a look about the communitys history. (READ SLIDE) Here are some photos taken, showing how biodiversity is affected by the problems in our community. (SLIDE) Navotas is a coastal area and is between two bodies of water, the Malabon-Navotas River and Manila Bay. Both bodies of water overflow when theres a heavy rainfall and high ti de that results to extensive and severe flooding. As the flood continuously flows, waste materials are carried on the different areas of the community. This severe flooding leads to the destruction of habitat to both human and marine life in the community. Here are some planned projects to prevent or minimize them and promote awareness and discipline to its citizens: (READ SLIDE) Water Pollution Those proposed projects will be for the benefit of the citizens of Navotas. Aside from protecting our health, marine life will flourish and will not be extinct. Increasing Production of Waste due to Littering/Improper Waste Disposal Littering and numerous garbage is one of the major problems of every City in Metro Manila and Navotas is not an exemption. To be able to give solution to this major problem, city/barangay officials and people in the community must work together to be able to implement effectively the proposed solutions. Also, we must not give room to ningas-kugon, coz those proposals cannot be done in just one day, those are regular tasks that are very hard to implement without unity but not impossible to happen. Slum Dwellers/Squatters Being poor is not a crime but poverty is not an excuse for one to be totally dependent on aids coming from the government and dole out from anybody. The government is there to assists those who are in need, and the way to help them is to provide means that can make them stand on their own. Affordable housings and jobs are what they need to turn them into responsible citizens. If we can give those to them, every Navotenians can be considered as participant in the growth of our local economy and most importantly, biodiversity will not be put in risk while their habitat will be maintained.
