6th Grade SCIENCE REFLECTION I.

What is one idea or concept that made you REALLY think in science class so far this year?

The John Doe essay and Socratic seminar really made me think because it showed a different side of the world when things are not fair to people and they have to make the right decisions and it can be really good or really bad.

II. Some of the skills sixth graders learn in science are: measurement tools (TBB, Grad-

uated cylinder, thermometer, trundle wheel), metric conversions, making observations, designing experiments, writing a good scientific question, hypothesis, conclusion, collecting data, using microscopes, making wet mount slides, building models, using technology for various projects, Socratic seminar
1. What skill did you learn this year that you are most proud of and enjoy doing? Why?

The skill that I am most proud of is the metric conversions because it is something I did not even know existed and I now always get it right. I also enjoy doing it because it is fun.

2. What skill do you feel you need more practice doing for success in future science classes?

I need more practice in learning to use a microscope because I was sick in the class when we learned the most about it. I think I will need to know this skill because it will be helpful to know how to see something that you cant see with your naked eye.

III. What else can you share with your parents about what you have learned, enjoyed, or struggled

with in science class so far this year? Something that I learned in science class was about a scientist. I learned about Henry Ford who was the maker and owner for the ford motor co. company. I learned that he was a man who was questioned in making a car that was affordable for all types of people. He also build his first car in a shed in his backyard.

IV. Choose two pieces of work to share with your parents. Make sure your reflections are thoughtful and thorough.

Work Sample# 1

What I am sharing (Blog post / quiz / test / PPT / notebook assignment) : I am sharing my Scientific Method Quiz

Why I am sharing this pieceI am sharing this piece because it shows how I mastered this topic by getting a 30/30 on my test. It shows how I understood the topic and it shows that I was well prepared for my test.

What I learned from doing itI learned the seven steps in scientific method and learned individual facts about the steps in the test.

Work Sample # 2

What I am sharing- (Blog post / quiz / test / PPT / notebook assignment) : I am sharing my triple beam balance notebook assignment.

Why I am sharing this piece I am sharing this piece because it was something I did good on and got a 5/5.

What I learned from doing itI learned what a triple beam balance looks like and I drew a picture of it, which shows all the parts of the beams structure.
