Well written reflection and experience. You were able to break down this experience into "role" requirements and put yourself in the principal's shoes. Exp. Record #: 10902 Date submitted: 06/14/2012 Elizabeth Hogan approved on 06/15/2012 Cohort: UEN 2011

Briefly describe this field-based internship experience, including your specific role (1/2 page). The problem in the middle school was tardiness in the classrooms. The middle school was made up of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. The principal asked Grade Team Leaders to get feedback on a solution to the problem from the teachers. As the 8th grade Team Leader I called the group to meet and discussed possible solutions to the problem. As one of the more experienced teachers in this team, I shared with them my own policy and strategies to avoid the problem. It was simple and was highly effective if consistency was in place. All of the 8th grade teachers utilized the strategy from the beginning of the year, and tardiness was not a problem in our grade level. I took this report back to the meeting with the other Team Leaders and the principal. Long story short, the plan that I had put into place in my own classroom which then was adopted by all of the 8th grade teachers, was then adapted and adopted school wide. Reflect on what you have learned from this experience, from mentor discussions, and how you will use this learning in future administrative leadership roles (no more than 1/2 page). From the ground level it was nice to see a plan that I had designed being implemented, after being adapted, to the whole school. From the administrative perspective I learned that you can successfully utilize the brain power of your staff to find solutions to problems. It would be too much stress and time to come up with your own policy for every little issue in a school. At the time I thought we were just on our own missions to get ideas and bring them back to the principal. I now realize how smart our principal was in utilizing the resources, in this case teachers on the "ground level". I will be sure to not underestimate the teachers and staff in the future when I need help "fixing" and issue. Mentor(s) Brad Schweppe The date approved by his/her lead mentor: 06/14/2012
