HARVEST BAPTIST CHURCH PRAYER DIARY SUNDAY MORNING SERVICE TIMES 9:00 & 10:45A.M.

MONDAYEVANGELISTIC PRAYER Chronological Bible Reading: Judges 1-3; Luke 1:61-80 Monday, March 25 Psa. 33:13 The LORD looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men. God and Father in Heaven: No figure of speech pictures you in a more gracious light than seeing you stooping from your throne, and coming down from heaven to listen to my wants and my woes. Sodom and Gomorrah were full of sin, but you would not destroy them until you had made a personal visitation to them. When I pray, you are inclining your ear from the highest glory and putting it to the lips of a dying sinner. My failing heart longs for you! How can I but love you when I know you number the hairs of my head, you mark my path, and you order my steps. Especially is this great truth brought to my heart when I pray for the lost, like __________ and __________. I remember how interested you are, not just in the material needs of your creatures, but to their spiritual thirst and heartconcerns as well. Leagues of distance lie between methe finite creature and youthe infinite Creator, and yet prayer links us both. When I weep a tear you watch, for Psa. 103:13 Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him. Make my sigh move your heart to save! Let my prayer stay your hand of judgment. Help my faith stretch your arm in mercy. You sit on high, and yet you take note of me, and especially of all who are lost. Great as you are, you know how to condescend to my cry when I pray. 2 Chron. 16:9 For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Show strength; show mercy, show salvation, in Jesus name. Amen. A DAILY PATTERN FOR PRAYER & BIBLE READING Chronological Bible Reading: Judges 10-12; Luke 3:1-19 Thursday, March 28 1 Cor. 15:54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. TUESDAYFOCUS ON CHRISTS DEATH Chronological Bible Reading: Judges 4-6; Luke 2:1-26 Tuesday, March 26 Matt. 26:56 But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled. Son of God: Let me contemplate, in this Palm Sunday passion week. You were made man. You lived a life of perfect virtue and complete self-denial. You were despised and rejected by men. Your haters were legion; your friends were few (and those few were faithless). You were arrested while in the act of prayer! You were arraigned before both religious and civil courts. You were robed in mockery, and then disrobed in shame. You were sat on a throne in scorn and then tied to a pillar in scourging. You were declared innocent, yet delivered-up by the judge to your persecutors. You were dragged through the streets to the cross, and nailed at the cross to the wood. The sun burned you. God forsook you. All this contains the concentrated hell deserved by your creatures. Then you hung. Your heart was broken and your limbs dislocated. Heaven failed you, earth forsook you, and all your disciples fled. There is no one who can share the toil, because you must tread this winepress alone. You drank the last dregs of the cup that could not pass from your lips, if the Fathers will was to be done. Bitter cup. At last you cried, It is finished, and gave up the ghost. Can I hear that cry as a shout of triumph? For it still rings with all the force it had two thousand years ago. Spirit of God, open my ears to hear it today from the sacred word and the Saviors lips. What did it mean? You meant that all the types, promises and prophecies were now fully accomplished in you (John 19:28). There is not a single jewel of unfilled promise, not one picture of coming redemption, that was not pictured by you and in you, Son of God! And I honor you by trusting your completed work of salvation. FRIDAY CORPORATE PRAYER MINISTRY Chronological Bible Reading: Judges 13-15; Luke 3:20-38 Friday, March 29 Jude 20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, Our Most Holy Father: You do not sit like an indifferent spectator to our problems and difficulties. You know our frailties, and even failures to pray. Yet you are not angry with us. Rather, you move yourself to pity us because you love us. Instead of shutting mercys gates, you develop ways to bring the lame into your presence and up to your table, as we see in the life of David (2 Sam. 9:1-8). You teach the ignorant how to pray. You strengthen the weak with your own power. That help is not found in somebodys book, or a course of rituals, or in repetition of certain words, or from sitting in certain consecrated places. It is found in the condescending help of the Holy Ghost to us all! The Holy Spirit is actually willing to make us a praying people, and make our church (a church for all people) into a house of prayer for all people! He will teach us how to pray. When we are at a loss for words and cannot express our desires, he will make intercession with us, even as the Lord Jesus makes intercession for us as our High Priest (Rom. 8:26,34). Lord, in your Gethsemane agony you were strengthened by an angel. We are strengthened by the Holy Spirit himself. This thought needs no oratorical exposition. It is a wedge of gold from Ophir, far above price. God the Holy Ghost helps us when we are on our knees! If we cannot even put two words together, yet he helps us speak to God. Prayer is the one thing at which we can never fail. Our hearts will conquer, for you read our petitions according to our inward groans. You notice the longing and answer it. Thank you, Lord Jesus. Amen. WEDNESDAYREVIVAL PRAYING Chronological Bible Reading: Judges 7-9; Luke 2:27-52 Wednesday, March 27 Psa. 69:21 They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink. Jesus, My Suffering Substitute: It is only when the struggle is over that the athlete, police officer, or soldier comes back to their senses and takes stock of the cost of his strength. Even so Jesus, your thirst expressed the fact your pain began to subside, the fury of the crucifixion had spent itself. The fever left behind made you take note of your lesser pains, but the agony of being forsaken by God was over. Your thirst on the cross confirms my natural enmity against God. Modern men and women think they are fine and noble people, but our homicide rate puts the lie to that! Splendid and dignified beings that they are, they think truth should be altered for them, and the gospel should be modified to suit their taste. Justice has to leave the field, lest it be too severe to such deserving beings. As for punishment, you cant even whisper that into polite postmodern ears any more. In fact, the tendency is to exalt man above God and give him the higher place. This weekend marks the cross! The very cup they offered you Lord, mingled admiration of your person with scorn for your claims. Men and women write books admiring your example, and at the same time reject your deity! They admit you are wonderful, but deny your sacred mission. They extol your ethics and teaching, but trample on your blood, thus giving you a drink, but that drink being gall and vinegarbitterness soured. Oh Jesus, how much we need revival! Help me beware of praising you and yet forgetting your sacrifice. Save me from rendering you homage but dishonoring your name. How often have I given you vinegar to drink? Jesus, you turned water into wine, now turn my sour drink offering into something sweet to yourself. Amen. SATURDAYIN THE PSALMS Chronological Bible Reading: Judges 16-18; Luke 4:1-22 Saturday, March 30 Psa. 12:1 Help, LORD; for the godly man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men. LORD and Life-Giver: What a short and sweet, suggestive and suitable prayer this is: Help! Its kind of an angels sword I can turn every which way and use on all occasions. I see the extreme danger of my position and turn to my Divine Helper today. What a useful cry! Just like smaller ships can sail into canals larger vessels cannot enter, so my brief cries to you and my short petitions throughout the day can trade with heaven when my soul is too waterlogged and business-logged for longer sessions. Sometimes the stream of grace seems too low to float a larger prayer. Make me bold by the power of this petition to meet the evils of the day with holy resolution and to hopefully pray! Because, Psa. 12:6 The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. My mere oppression, however silently I bear it, is in itself a cry to you. Moses was heard at the Red Sea when he said nothing except, Stand still. Hagars affliction was heard despite her silence. Jesus, feel with me, and make my pains a mighty oration with you. My extremity is your opportunity. My inflammation of heart needs your attention. What a contrast between the words of vain men and the pure word of God! Your word to me has passed through fiery persecution (by textual criticism, by philosophic doubt, and by scientific disdain). Should not my words to you pass through the furnace of affliction as well? Make me Godlike in communication by making me godly in communion. For this I ask in Jesus name this Easter season. Amen.

LOW in the grave He lay, Jesus my Savior,

Waiting the coming day, Jesus my Lord! Vainly they watch His bed, Jesus my Savior; Vainly they seal the dead, Jesus my Lord! Death cannot keep its Prey, Jesus my Savior; He tore the bars away, Jesus my Lord! Up from the grave He arose, With a mighty triumph oer His foes, He arose a Victor from the dark domain, And He lives forever, with His saints to reign. He arose! He arose! Hallelujah! Christ arose! Robert Lowry, 1874

Baptists tend to ridicule liturgical churches that use "prepared prayers" because they lack spontaneity. But for many Baptists, their prayers are so predictable they are no more spontaneous than written-out prayers. The result is we end up praying the same things over and over. This daily Prayer Diary will prompt you on a wide range of prayer requests you might not normally think of, while forcing you to articulate a deeper devotion to God. We have included a daily Bible reading schedule. This plan will take you through the Bible chronologically in a year. Do not read ahead and do not try to catch up. Use each day as it comes. Then you can know that on any given day, dozens of other people are lifting their hearts in the same mind to God. Pray what is written, but use what is prayed as a springboard for your own relationship with God. You learn to pray by praying. Alan

Secret prayer is the secret of prayer, the soul of prayer, the seal of prayer, the strength of prayer. If you do not pray alone you do not pray at all. Our Lord Jesus Christ would go nowhere till He had prayed. He would attempt nothing till He had prayed. Oh, says one, I live in the spirit of prayer, and therefore I do not need times and seasons for prayer. And do you think that Christ did not live in the spirit of prayer? Yet He had to have his special time and place to pray. Do not fall under the injurious notion that because your spirit cries to God in prayer all day long, therefore there must not be some season for more immediately coming into Gods presence. If you imagine this, I am afraid that it will prove a snare to your feet. The Lord Jesus Christ, who knew better than you do that the main thing is the spirit of prayer rather than the act of prayer, yet Himself retired into desert places to maintain the act and exercise of prayer. Be spiritual. Be baptized into the spirit of prayer. But do not be deceived by the enemy, who can steal a spirit away while we dream that we only spiritualize it. We had better preserve the very bones of prayerthe posture, the time, placerather than let it all ooze away into an impalpable mental condition. God keep us prayerful. He will do so if He makes us like His dear Son. Charles H. Spurgeon, 1834-92
