THOMAS HAINES Solanco
Winning his third consecutive PIAA
championship, Thomas Haines showed there
were still things he believed he could learn, areas
where he could improve. He was quick to see
the irony of facing Boyertown freshman Jordan
Wood in the championship fnal and quicker
to see that Wood would not be writing history
this time out. Haines7-2 championship victory
moved the Solanco junior one step closer to
Pa. state wrestling immortality. Should he win
his fourth title next year, he will become the
12th wrestler in the 77-year history of the PIAA
championships presuming Kennard-Dales
Chance Marsteller becomes the 11th 30 minutes
before Haines to win four state titles. By
winning his third state title he became the frst
ever from Lancaster to do so, establishing him as
Lancasters all-time grappling king. And he did
it with his trademark humility, telling a reporter
that winning this title, feels better, actually.
The terms were a little bit better. Last year, I
lost my head. The match (a frustrating tafy pull
with Nazareths Aaron Bradley) got a little out of
control. It didnt make me look good. It didnt
make the sport look good at all. I didnt want that
to happen again.

Wallace coached the Vikings to a 6-0
league season and the L-L Section
Three championship. A phoenix-like
accomplishment notable because in the
previous six seasons, Northern Lebanon
(16-5 overall) won once in 36 section
matches and was 10-44 overall. A key to
the turnaround was the ofseason transfer
of the Blatt brothers sophomore Caleb and freshman
Quinn from Tulpehocken, but that was icing on the
cake. The foundation was already in place.
We had a nice, young team, four freshmen and six
sophomores, who came up through our elementary
and junior high program, said Wallace. They work all
year round and (their success) wasnt a surprise to us.
We knew, because of all the time and efort, they had
a chance to be a (successful) team.

The most versatile player in the league and the lone returning
member of LNPs Fab Five from a year ago, the Division
I recruit and 1,000-point scorer helped the Red Tornado
reclaim the Section One title and repeat as L-L champions. A
big guy with a deft shooting touch from the perimeter as
his team-high 50 3-pointers attest the 6-6 Pinkard can play
forward, center or guard, and will battle beneath the boards for
rebounds. He was a key fgure for a team that won 25 straight, one shy of tying
the program record.

In his frst year as head coach, Fink guided
the Pioneers to a 15-1 record during the
league season, with their only loss coming
to Lancaster Catholic, before advancing
to the L-L fnal for the frst time in program
history. L-S fnished the year with a 23-5
record.
Despite losing two defensive cogs from
last years PIAA Class AAA title team,
Kaufman guided the Crusaders to a third

consecutive L-L crown, giving them an L-L
record 11 league championships. Under
Kaufman, Catholic also advanced to the
PIAA Class AAA quarterfnals, before losing
to Blackhawk.

RIFLE
MARKSMAN of the YEAR
MITCH SAYLOR Manheim Central
Focus and dedication are two
main reasons why Manheim Centrals
Mitch Saylor has repeated as the
Lancaster-Lebanon League Marksman
of the Year.
He works hard and he shoots as
much as he can, said Manheim Central
rife coach Steve Waddington. The more
time you spend practicing the better youre
going to get. Hes dedicated at practice and
stays as long as he can.
Saylor and teammate Elizabeth
Hess fnished with 99.3 averages over
the course of 10 league matches but
Saylor edged Hess when the scores
were taken to an 11th match in
which Saylor shot 98 and Hess 97.
It was close but they were
both right there,Waddington
said.

the Crusaders didnt have their full
