Republicans and Democrats have raised legitimate concerns about the ability of an Attorney General to impartially lead their office while running for Governor of Virginia. Specifically, Virginia taxpayers deserve to know if the actions taken by the Office of the Attorney General to declare portions of the bipartisan transportation compromise unconstitutional may have been influenced by the political needs of your campaign, which has attacked the transportation compromise in the press. The Washington Post noted in an editorial about your time as Attorney General that there have been concerns about whether, rendering dispassionate legal advice takes a back seat to agenda-pushing. Therefore, pursuant to the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, I am requesting copies of the following information: Complete email correspondence between Attorney General Cuccinelli and/or OAG staff with any Republican Party or Cuccinelli for Governor staff pertaining to the recently passed transportation bill.
