The Finger Family song is a simple song to be taught to the Standard 1 pupils. The song is about a family consists of Daddy, Mommy, Brother, Sister and also Baby, which are being represented by our own five fingers. Therefore, the song could be categorized under the theme of World of Self, Family and Friends. Based on textbook syllabus, the Finger Family song could be introduced to the pupils when teaching the topic of Meet My Family. Then, the activity is being created actually focuses on the Listening and Speaking. Teacher could do this activity while having 30-minute class as this is only a short activity. Teacher could use the song and carry out the activity for the Standard 1 with low level of proficiency.

Through the song, pupils could enhance their linguistic development. This is because the vocabularies used in the song are simple, such as, brother, sister and daddy. These words are common words that the pupils already familiar with. Therefore, they could easily understand the meaning of each word since the song is about family members. Based on Standard 1 curriculum specification, the words like brother and do are the list of words that the pupils have to master, so, the pupils could pronounce these words correctly through the Finger Family song. Besides, the words used in this song consist of one and two syllables only. The pupils could follow the song very well. Apart from that, the song is chosen because it has repetition. The repeated sentences like Here I am, here I am. How do you do? could attract the pupils interest towards the song. Moreover, repetition could also aid in pupils memory retention. The Finger Family is being chosen because it could make the pupils love their family members. The song would make them realize the importance of their family members in their lives. For example, when the teacher says out the names, like Mommy, they would imagine their family members characters. Then, the turn-taking activity would develop their interpersonal skill. Turn-taking is being carried out to instill the pupils responsibilities to listen and respect others while their turn to speak. For example, when the father group is singing, the other groups have to listen. According to Waters (2012), the children require to take turns to develop an ability to listen to others, so that they could improve their interpersonal skill.
