It is a country of contrasts, from the modernity of bustling Tel Aviv to one

of the earths oldest inhabited cities, Jerusalem. This is a country that
is of great importance to Judaism, Christianity, Muslims and the Bahai
faith. It can be enjoyed equally by those going for a religious pilgrimage
as it can be for those interested in historical sites or even just wanting to
swim or dive in the crystal clear waters of Eilat or by contrast to float in
the therapeutic waters of the Dead Sea.
We are a boutique operator that prides ourselves on ensuring that the
holiday you have dreamed of and planned for is the one that you get. My
aim is not just to satisfy you but to meet and exceed your expectations.
At Greece and Mediterranean Travel

Managing Director,
Greece and Mediterranean Travel Centre

WWW. world wide web or world wide worry????

The Internet is a superb tool for researching destinations that you might wish to visit as well as what there is to
see and do when you get there. To a large extent, this is the major advantage of such a brilliant research tool.
Where it fails, however, is on the booking side due to all of the pitfalls that exist by booking with, in most cases,
an unknown entity.

WWW or WORLD WIDE WORRY

Dont get
caught in the
World Wide Web
In the event that there are any disputes there is very little if anything that you can do by way of getting your money back.
In the event that a Volcano erupts and disrupts your travel plans, who can you turn to in order to salvage your carefully
planned holiday?
This is where Greece and Mediterranean Travel Centre and our travel agency partners come into the picture. We will ensure
that you tick all the right boxes so that you have a wonderful holiday and lasting memories for all the right reasons.
Some questions to ask yourselfcan booking your trip though the internet provide you with:
a comprehensive one stop shop for all your holiday or business needs in the Mediterranean region?
a tailor made itinerary according to your specific and individual requirements?
a total peace of mind knowing in those rare instances when things do go wrong that someone knowledgeable is there to
do what it takes and to ensure that your problems become a thing of the past?
a local representative who will amend your travel plans in the case of a natural disaster or flight delays and cancellations?
a totally reliable source of useful and factual information?
saving you time, effort and money when you make your booking?
personalised and first hand recommendations regarding the best products and services that most suit your individual
needs because the source has already been there?
the knowledge that you will get the best English speaking guides personally chosen for their professionalism and quality
air-conditioned vehicles, so that the holiday you have saved and waited for a very long time is everything that you always
hoped it would be?
information about fare rules, visas, climates, local customs, festivals, dress codes, tipping, the best types of rooms, cabins,
car types, ferry routes, tours and transfers without spending hours sourcing this information?
hotels and tour operator staff that actually care about delighting you in Israel, Jordan, Egypt and other Mediterranean
destinations so that you will return to holiday with them again in the future?

And the most important last question to ask:

Do you know who to call when you dont know the answer?
You can rest in the knowledge that Greece and Mediterranean Travel Centre have the answers to these and thousands of
other questions just like them. We can provide you with the experience and services you actually want, not because the
pictures look good on the web site, but because weve already been there! After all, theres no substitute for experience.

and Davids Tower with its fantastic
views of Temple Mount. Explore the
Old City Quarters with Jewish, Muslim,
Christian and Armenian cultures all
contributing to 4 very distinct quarters.
Highlights include the Western Wall,
the newly reconstructed Hulda steps
leading to Jerusalem Archaeological
Park, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre;
one of Christianitys most sacred
places, believed to be built upon the
site of Christs Crucifixion and the Via
Dolorosa. Admire the Dome of the
Rock, and find a bargain in the street
markets. Modern Jerusalem is a vibrant
city. Other highlights include the Israel
Museum containing the famous Dead
Sea Scrolls, and Yad Vashem, Israels
memorial to the Holocaust of WWII.
Dead Sea: Experience the lowest point
on earth where anyone can float.
Masada: Be amazed at the sheer size
of Masada and explore the ruins of
King Herods palace, perched high on
the ridge. Here 900 Jewish Zealots
held the Roman legions at bay for 4
years between AD 69-73. Enjoy the
lush spring water oasis of Ein Gedi
and visit Qumran where the Dead Sea
Scrolls were found.
Galilee: Gain inspiration from the
Sea of Galilee as the place of Jesus
worship and to the ruins of the ancient
Synagogue at Capernaum. Nearby

the Fishes and Loaves and a few kms
away is the Mount of Beatitudes were
Jesus delivered the Sermon. Visit Cana,

neighbourhood of Neve Zedek, see
the unique bauhaus buildings around
the city that earned UNESCO heritage
status and the title of the white city.
Jaffa is the Mediterraneans most
ancient seaport and now a popular
suburb of Tel Aviv.
Haifa: The highlight of this port city
is the Gold domed Bahai Temple and
Formal Gardens which ascend the
slopes of Mount Carmel in 13 stages.
Negev & Eilat: The southern half
of Israel is dominated by the stark
grandeur of the Negev Desert.
Beersheba has special significance for
Australians as the site of a great ANZAC
victory of WWI. At Israels southern tip
is the vibrant Red Sea resort city of
Eilat from which travellers can enjoy
the coral beneath Eilats warm waters.
From Eilat it is an easy crossing from
Israel into either Egypt or Jordan.

Israel has a comprehensive range

of accommodation types available
from budget to luxury including
hotels, holiday villages, self catering
apartments or rooms, and hostels.
In addition there is some unique
accommodation such as Christian
hospices or Kibbutz guest houses. Prebooking accommodation is the best
choice for a stress free holiday, with
quality hotels, at a decent price. Most
hotels in Israel serve kosher food which
meets Jewish dietary laws and dictate
that certain foods cannot be served
together. You will find breakfast buffets
to be opulent with a large variety of
food, however you wont find meat or
cold meats and dairy (cheese) or meat
and fish served at the same buffet.

THINGS TO DO

ISRAEL
GREECE AND MEDITERRANEAN TRAVEL CENTRE
7

Israel, a small country full of contrast and fascination, will fill your imagination with all that it has to offer.
Imagine a country that is the Holy Land to half of humanity and where Christians, Jews, Muslims and Bahais come to connect
with their spiritual roots.
Imagine Jerusalem, the oldest part of which was settled circa 4,000 BC, making it one of the oldest cities in the world. Walk the
14 Stations of the Cross along the Via Dolorosa to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, see the location of the Last Supper on Mount
Zion and wander through the Jewish Quarter to the Western (Wailing) Wall.
Imagine Tel Aviv, the second most populous city in Israel, modern and vibrant. Situated on the Israeli Mediterranean coastline,
its White City was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2003 and comprises the worlds largest concentration of Bauhaus
buildings.
Imagine the Sea of Galilee, one of the most well-known bodies of water in the world. It was on these shores that Jesus delivered
sermons and performed miracles.
Imagine the Dead Sea, which has some of the most saline water on earth, about eight times as salty as the ocean! It is also the
lowest point on Earth, its surface and shores about 422 metres below sea level. There are no fish of any kind living in or near the
water. Float on it and soak up its renowned minerals.
Imagine visiting the ancient rock fortress of Masada, a UNESCO World Heritage site, overlooking the shores of the Dead Sea. This
is the place where, in the first century AD, hundreds of Jewish fighters resisted the Romans for many years and eventually took
their own lives rather than be captured by the Romans and taken into slavery.
Imagine Eilat, a resort town of 20,000 and a bustling port, combining sea and desert on Israels Red Sea coast. It is a coral
wonderland where the sun always shines and the average daytime temperatures rarely dip below 21Degrees C, even in winter.
The calm surface of the sea is ideal for both swimming and boating. There are plenty of things to do outside of the water too,
including rappelling on craggy cliffs of the desert mountains, hiking in the desert and mountain biking. Eilat is also one of the
best places in the world for bird watching.
These are just some of the wonders of Israel. Imagine all the other things we know too that will ensure you have a fantastic holiday.
Imagine no longer - Greece and Mediterranean Travel will bring your imagination to life!

ISRAEL

Tel Aviv
The literal translation of Tel Aviv is hill of spring, but what it really means to both Israelis and visitors alike is the place where the
action is in Israel. Israels second largest city has a population of 380,000 and has been described by Getaways Catriona Rowntree as
the hippest city in the Holy Land. By contrast, it is also known as the white city named so on account of the bright colours of the
building style: white, off-white, light yellow. From the beaches to the historic old Port, the unique blend of old and new will keep you
captivated. A short walk leads you from the glamorous beachside hotels to the exotic Yemenite Quarter to fashionable Rothschild
Boulevard. Discover over 5000 elegantly restored pre-War Bauhaus buildings, the largest number in any one city in the world, as well
as world-class concert halls, theatres and museums. Walk the promenade which leads all the way to the district of Jaffa, a historical
site in its own right, but also the location of some fabulous dining and leisure activities. Tel Avivs beauty is its central location,
enabling day trips to some of the best sites that Israel has to offer. This is a city where the beaches are clean and inviting and the
sea is warm. The nightclubs are hopping, there are abundant opportunities for shopping and the restaurants are both plentiful and
appetizing. Your biggest regret? Saying goodbye!

ISRAEL PROGRAMS
Coach touring has come a long way over the years and has evolved from mainly catering for the budget end of the
market to now providing a comfortable and relaxing way of travelling even for the most discerning guest.

In this brochure you will find different touring options that include as much or as little of Israel as you like. If you are
not keen on changing hotels every night and prefer to base yourself in one place, then our tours operating out of
Jerusalem are ideal for you. They explore the country with regular daily coach tours that return to Jerusalem every
night. If you dont want to sacrifice your valuable holiday time to back track to Jerusalem every night, then embark
on one of our weekly coach tours that visit similar sights but overnight in the actual areas you are travelling to. Some
programs also combine day tours with extended coach touring, focus on the religious and biblical sites of Israel or
combine Israel with its neighbouring countries Jordan and Egypt. Regardless of what your preference is, we are sure
you will find just the right program for your needs.
We can also cater for individual tailor-made tours by private vehicle and guide or organise a special interest coach
charter tour for you. Please contact our friendly staff for more information.

13 GREECE AND MEDITERRANEAN TRAVEL CENTRE

Imagine that all the planning and research has already been done for you and tailored into an itinerary that ensures
you visit the must-see destinations in Israel and many more of its secrets along the way. A coach tour lets you enjoy
the scenery, in luxury and comfort, while someone else keeps an eye on the road. Its a great way to travel when
locals insist on driving on the other side of the road, print road signs in foreign languages or the road and traffic
conditions are beyond our comprehension and patience.

ISRAEL PROGRAMS

Israel Prelude

This popular program operates with regular daily coach tours from Jerusalem
and includes sightseeing of Old and New Jerusalem, a visit to stunning Masada
and the Dead Sea where you can float, as well as to the picturesque Sea of
Galilee and Nazareth in the very north of the country.

communal living with a basis in agriculture. Every Kibbutz settlement has at least one form of agriculture from farming
crops, orchards and even animals. Although these settlements were once traditional and basic, this is no longer the
case, most of your Kibbutz hotels have superior facilities including gorgeous landscaped gardens and some even
