THINGS TO DO
ISRAEL
GREECE AND MEDITERRANEAN TRAVEL CENTRE
7
Israel, a small country full of contrast and fascination, will fill your imagination with all that it has to offer.
Imagine a country that is the Holy Land to half of humanity and where Christians, Jews, Muslims and Bahais come to connect
with their spiritual roots.
Imagine Jerusalem, the oldest part of which was settled circa 4,000 BC, making it one of the oldest cities in the world. Walk the
14 Stations of the Cross along the Via Dolorosa to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, see the location of the Last Supper on Mount
Zion and wander through the Jewish Quarter to the Western (Wailing) Wall.
Imagine Tel Aviv, the second most populous city in Israel, modern and vibrant. Situated on the Israeli Mediterranean coastline,
its White City was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2003 and comprises the worlds largest concentration of Bauhaus
buildings.
Imagine the Sea of Galilee, one of the most well-known bodies of water in the world. It was on these shores that Jesus delivered
sermons and performed miracles.
Imagine the Dead Sea, which has some of the most saline water on earth, about eight times as salty as the ocean! It is also the
lowest point on Earth, its surface and shores about 422 metres below sea level. There are no fish of any kind living in or near the
water. Float on it and soak up its renowned minerals.
Imagine visiting the ancient rock fortress of Masada, a UNESCO World Heritage site, overlooking the shores of the Dead Sea. This
is the place where, in the first century AD, hundreds of Jewish fighters resisted the Romans for many years and eventually took
their own lives rather than be captured by the Romans and taken into slavery.
Imagine Eilat, a resort town of 20,000 and a bustling port, combining sea and desert on Israels Red Sea coast. It is a coral
wonderland where the sun always shines and the average daytime temperatures rarely dip below 21Degrees C, even in winter.
The calm surface of the sea is ideal for both swimming and boating. There are plenty of things to do outside of the water too,
including rappelling on craggy cliffs of the desert mountains, hiking in the desert and mountain biking. Eilat is also one of the
best places in the world for bird watching.
These are just some of the wonders of Israel. Imagine all the other things we know too that will ensure you have a fantastic holiday.
Imagine no longer - Greece and Mediterranean Travel will bring your imagination to life!
ISRAEL
Jerusalem
Jerusalem has a history as a holy city which stretches back over 6,000 years. The capital city of Kings David and
Solomon has experienced over the years a tumultuous history dominated by a succession of empires including
Israelites, Babylonians, Persians, Greeks, Roman, Arabs, Crusaders, Ottomans and the British all leaving their mark
on the citys architecture and soul. Jerusalem is revered by Jews as the site of the Temples of Solomon and Herod, by
Christians as the site where Jesus was crucified and resurrected and by Muslims as the place from where Mohammed
ascended to heaven. It is a focal point for spiritual pilgrimage for half of humanity but its also a city with great
restaurants, incredible museums, a lively nightlife, unique shopping experiences and a lust for modern life.

ISRAEL
Tel Aviv
The literal translation of Tel Aviv is hill of spring, but what it really means to both Israelis and visitors alike is the place where the
action is in Israel. Israels second largest city has a population of 380,000 and has been described by Getaways Catriona Rowntree as
the hippest city in the Holy Land. By contrast, it is also known as the white city named so on account of the bright colours of the
building style: white, off-white, light yellow. From the beaches to the historic old Port, the unique blend of old and new will keep you
captivated. A short walk leads you from the glamorous beachside hotels to the exotic Yemenite Quarter to fashionable Rothschild
Boulevard. Discover over 5000 elegantly restored pre-War Bauhaus buildings, the largest number in any one city in the world, as well
as world-class concert halls, theatres and museums. Walk the promenade which leads all the way to the district of Jaffa, a historical
site in its own right, but also the location of some fabulous dining and leisure activities. Tel Avivs beauty is its central location,
enabling day trips to some of the best sites that Israel has to offer. This is a city where the beaches are clean and inviting and the
sea is warm. The nightclubs are hopping, there are abundant opportunities for shopping and the restaurants are both plentiful and
appetizing. Your biggest regret? Saying goodbye!

ISRAEL PROGRAMS
Coach touring has come a long way over the years and has evolved from mainly catering for the budget end of the
market to now providing a comfortable and relaxing way of travelling even for the most discerning guest.
In this brochure you will find different touring options that include as much or as little of Israel as you like. If you are
not keen on changing hotels every night and prefer to base yourself in one place, then our tours operating out of
Jerusalem are ideal for you. They explore the country with regular daily coach tours that return to Jerusalem every
night. If you dont want to sacrifice your valuable holiday time to back track to Jerusalem every night, then embark
on one of our weekly coach tours that visit similar sights but overnight in the actual areas you are travelling to. Some
programs also combine day tours with extended coach touring, focus on the religious and biblical sites of Israel or
combine Israel with its neighbouring countries Jordan and Egypt. Regardless of what your preference is, we are sure
you will find just the right program for your needs.
We can also cater for individual tailor-made tours by private vehicle and guide or organise a special interest coach
charter tour for you. Please contact our friendly staff for more information.
Imagine that all the planning and research has already been done for you and tailored into an itinerary that ensures
you visit the must-see destinations in Israel and many more of its secrets along the way. A coach tour lets you enjoy
the scenery, in luxury and comfort, while someone else keeps an eye on the road. Its a great way to travel when
locals insist on driving on the other side of the road, print road signs in foreign languages or the road and traffic
conditions are beyond our comprehension and patience.

Home to the three great Monotheistic religions; Christianity, Judaism and Islam as well as many others including the
Bahai faith, Israel provides an excellent home base for those wanting to embark on a religious pilgrimage. Many sites
important to religions are featured within our programs; however we at Greece and Mediterranean Travel Centre can
custom design any itinerary to suit your specific needs and faith. Visit sites of religious significance such as the Church of
Holy Sepulchre for Christians, Masada or the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem for the Jews and Beersheba for Muslims. However
there are also many sites scattered throughout Israel with significant ties to Australias ANZAC heritage. Below we have
provided some sample itineraries for the three main religious beliefs. Please note that these are only a suggestion and
starting point as the programs can be modified to suit your required timeframe, places of interest or accommodation
choice. Contact us now for more details and to begin planning your personally tailored tour!
