Rewriting Frankenstein
How can your environments impact who you are and the choices you make? Pick one of the following scenes from the play. Think about how the situation affected the Monster. Think about how if the scene unfolded differently, the Monster may have changed. Rewrite one of the following to show how they would have impacted the Monster and his choices in life if the situation had been different. 1. 2. 3. 4. When Frankenstein sees the monster for the first time and his reaction is to run away When the monster is in a town, where dogs and towns people are after him When Felix shoots the monster When the monster kills William

Your scene should have between 2-4 characters. 1 or 2 of these characters may be your own characters (not from the play). Your scene will have two parts: 1. What happens to the monster (the situation) 2. His choices as a result (the impact) When the monster is in a town, where dogs and towns people are after him What is the situation in the scene? What do others How does this affect the Monster? What impact does do to the Monster? it have on his life? What choices does he make as a result? The situation in this scene is that everybody is This situation makes the monster really angry scared of the monster, and they are trying to kill because the monster wants a friend or wife. He him by throwing rocks. The town people are also shooting him. Dogs are even chasing after him. He blames it all on Frankenstein. He thought that feels that he is not welcome to the world. Because Frankenstein was planning on making him like this. What he does is that he kills Frankensteins little of this situation he would run away. brother, like that Frankenstein feels the same pain as the Monster. The monster thinks he will be forever alone and never have friends. How will you change the situation? How might things happen differently during the scene? I could change it by making the town people do the opposite of what they were originally doing. They could be welcoming him and showing him around the town. How will this affect the Monster? What impact will it have on his life? What choices will he make as a result? If the town people were being nice then I think the monster would be quite happy because he could make friends. He would also not run away. This situation would most probably make the monster also want to be around people that are different than him. I think the choices he would make is that he would go back to see Frankenstein and thank him for making the monster.

Your script is consistently wellorganized. The ideas build on each other in a sophisticated manner. Font size = 12 Use the format of a script o Skip a line each time a new character speaks o Italicize the stage directions o Write dialogue by bolding character names Build the dialogue and action to first show what the situation is, then how the Monster is affected Your script shows a mastery of formal tone to explain. Your grammar, punctuation, and spelling are completely accurate. Edit for spelling, punctuation, and grammar Use first person when writing the dialogue Use the type of language that the character would use when writing the dialogue

Your script has illustrative details (dialogue, stage directions) to show how the Monster develops through the scene. Include a title Describe each character Include a note on staging to explain how your staging choices (set design, costumes/props, effects) show the situation and its impact on the Monster Employ dialogue to show how the scene develops Include stage directions to show the action Use details to show the actions and emotions of the characters involved

In order to succeed you need to:

Include A Note On Staging refer to page 6 in the Frankenstein play o Explain the set design o Explain the costumes and props o Explain lighting, sound, and special effects Include a paragraph to explain your choices for your Note On Staging

Set Design: In the town, chic breakfast place, facial salon Small valleys where the monster can hide Many trees Props: Benches for people to sit on Walls for the monster to hide Gun just in case for the monster Costumes: Monster Ripped shirt and dirty trousers Main town person Red shorts with any shorts or trousers Person that cleans up the monsters face Apron with man pockets

Lighting, sound, and special effects: Lighting - Dark with a few tall lights Sound Wind noises Special effects Breeze and fan blowing on the trees

I made my set design messy because I want it to seem like there is not much space in the town for the monster to hide in many different spaces. The props make it obvious that the setting is a town. The gun for the monster shows that he is protecting himself incase anything happens since its his first time in to the world. The ripped shirt and dirty trousers make it seem like he recently got harassed. I chose for the tow people to have the same color shirt, so that people recognize them and they just dont look like people that dont belong there. I want the lighting

to be dark with a few tall lights because it makes it look very late at night and also a bit scary. I put in wind noises because its quite breezy, so I want to show that. I also want it because it seems very silent. For my special effects, I put breeze because it connects to wind noises. I want a fan blowing on the trees to actually show that there is a breeze.

Comment [JH2]: Good explanation of your ideas.

Include descriptions of the characters refer to page 8 in the Frankenstein play o List each character and give a short (2-3 sentences) description of his/her appearance and personality

Characters: Monster: ugly, scared, friendly and is looking for a friend. Main town person: friendly, curious, happy and includes the monster to their community Person that cleans up the monsters face : Friendly, helpful

Rewriting act 2 - When the monster is in a town, where dogs and towns
people are after him (scene 1)
The monster is all alone hiding behind a wall in the silent town Monster: What place is this? Slowly the monster steps away from the wall Monster: Where everybody? (Mumbling) Oh-oh I see shadow The Monster shivers, but walks totally away from the wall to see whos there Monster: Hello.. Main town person: Well hello there The monster calms down and approaches to the person Monster: Very new here Main town person: Oh thats ok, I will take care of you. WELCOME TO THE COMMUNITY! Monster: No good English, sorry Main town person: Lets go for a stroll The monster and the main town person are off to take a stroll Main town person: So what brings you here?
Comment [JH3]: Ok, but you also need to write what the silent town looks like, and what the stage will look like.

Monster: Me? I just got created by some guy The main town person is a little terrified Main town person: Oh well, its getting late, dont you want to head home? Monster: Huh home? Dont go home stay Main town person: So you dont want to go home! Wow I think you should. The monster started walking away from the main town person completely upset Main town person: (Shouting) Lets meet tomorrow here at 10 am Monster: (Sighing) Ok
Comment [JH4]: You also need to show how the characters are talking to each other.

Scene 2
The monster and the main town person are back at the same place as scene 1. It is 10 am. Both are so happy to see each other again Monster: (Happily screamed) Hellooooo!! Main town person: Hello! Nice to see you again. Have you eaten breakfast yet? Monster: (Confused) Breakfast? Main town person: Breakfast is indeed the most important meal of the day. It might include cereals, bread, eggs, bacon, baked beans The monster smiles with excitement marching around looking for breakfast Monster: Where will we eat breakfast? Main town person: At a chic breakfast place The monster and the main town person walk calmly to the chic breakfast place Main Town person: Dont you ever wonder what you look like? Monster: Well, am I pretty? Main town person: When we arrive there you can see for yourself.

Comment [JH5]: You need to explain what is on the stage and have someone, perhaps a narrator show the time has passed.

The monster and the main town person arrive at the chic breakfast place and settle themselves on their table. The monster looks in the mirror that is beside him.

Monster: Uhh ohhh eeww Main town person: What? Monster: I ugly. I look like zombie. The main town person thinks for a while to find a solution to clean up the monsters face. Main town person: If you really want to look better, then we could go to a facial salon later? Monster: (excited tone of voice) Yes yes lets go after! I need clean face . When they were finished eating, the monster ran out of the place looking for the facial salon. The main town person quickly ran to catch up with him Main town person: (pointing to the right) Its over there. Monster: (With joy) YAAYYYY
Comment [JH6]: How are the people speaking?

Scene 3
The monster and the main town person arrive at the salon. The monster seats himself in a high chair Main town person: Here we are, just wait for someone to come and start. Monster: Ok. Somebody comes to clean up the monsters face. She puts some creams that puts color on the cuts to hide them. The monster sits on the chair calmly without saying anything. Person that cleans up the monsters face: Finished! (giving the monster a pocket mirror) Have a look at yourself in the mirror Monster: Ohhh, (with a big smile) I look good now. Main town person: My suggestion about doing this was good, right? Monster: Yes very good. Thank you!! The monster walks out of the salon with a big smile. The main town person looks a bit sad
Comment [JH7]: What does the stage look like?

Main town person: Umm, I dont know how I should say this but I am not going to be around for a few weeks. Im really sorry.

Monster: Bu-bu-but you cant go. You my only friend. The monster starts to tear up Main town person: Im really sorry. But I really want to see you again this week. I really like you. You are very nice. You made my days way better. Monster: Well, I cannot keep you back from your life. All I wanted was friend, you gave me friendship. I say thank you for all you did for me. Main town person: Bye hope to see you again! Monster: Bye. They both walk away in different directions crying a bit
Comment [JH8]: Ok, but what are the impacts this has on the monster?
