This document presents a concept for organizing events and efforts by Enterprise High School Music Department alumni in preparation for the June 29th retirement party for Mrs. Divine and Mr. Neece. It is modeled on reunions held every five years since 2001 by Brigham Young University a cappella group Vocal Point alumni, which include public performance by these alumni. General Performance Structure: 3-5pm Performance by schedule by alumni and students (garage bands, solos, etc.) One will be responsible for receiving performance requests for this block 5-7pm EHS Music through the years retrospective (as described below) Alumni will be responsible for various years as shown below. 7-9pm Performance by 2012-2013 students and alumni (eg. Choir, Starship, etc.) Presentation and retirement ceremony for Mrs. Divine and Mr. Neece Suggest performance to be organized by current year music council Alumni performances will be organized by groups of years with an principle alumnus from each year group appointed responsible to lead the year groups organized performances as follows: Fall 1987- Spring 1991 Nathan Lowry (subject to change) Fall 1991- Spring 1995 Alumnus Fullname Fall 1995- Spring 1999 Another Alumnus Fall 1999- Spring 2003 Alumnus Number Four Fall 2004- Spring 2007 A Fifth Alumnus Fall 2008- Spring 2011 Firstname Lastname All Alumni Numbers Another Fullname These initial principle alumni for each year group will be identified and appointed by the Retirement Party Planning Committee directly. These alumni are not necessarily responsible for determining the music presented but instead are primarily responsible for contacting alumni in their year group and then determining through a representative democratic process the music to be performed. They may also be instrumental in communicating other details of the retirement party to year group members. Each year group will be limited to no more than three musical numbers to be presented at the retirement party. Music performed by each year group should mostly be selected by music performed by members while in EHS Music groups (eg. Jazz Band, Victorian Christmas, etc.) and can be representative of these groups. Using different groups per

year group where possible will show the musical diversity of the Neece/Divine legacy and enable the effort in preparation to be well distributed. The best success for these year groups is to use musical numbers previously performed while students in EHS music groups that are very memorable and not too difficult. The music does not have to be perfectly performed. Those listening are more impressed with the variation of the music performed over the years and the sincerity in effort by those involved than the level of precision or polish in performance. Rehearsals for the retirement party performances can be organized any time prior to the event. However, since a number of alumni will be coming back to Redding specifically for the retirement party, the focus should be on rehearsals for each year group the morning of the event. Rehearsals can be held at EHS, the LDS church across the street, and other locations so that different year groups can rehearse simultaneously that morning. Written music where available can aid with the (re-)learning of the music in advance of rehearsals. Communication within each year group will be significantly aided if each year group principle finds others that can be responsible for each graduating year and subsequently for different performing ensembles during that time frame. These secondary individuals can be instrumental in reaching out to find alumni members and inviting them to participate in the year group performance at the retirement party. They can also lead the effort on preparing the specific musical numbers to be performed by their year group. General communications can be managed by a few appointed by the Retirement Party Planning Committee members. This includes the details of the event and its preparations via Facebook, email, newspaper, etc. The preservation of images, audio, and video recordings of EHS music group events should be a specific effort in preparation for and in conjunction with the retirement party itself. Instructional documents can be shared and aid alumni in their efforts to scan photos, programs, etc. and convert these and audio and video recordings to files that can preserve quality but also be easily posted to Facebook, YouTube, etc. such that the holdings of alumni can be shared in preparation for the event. This will also aid in the promotion among alumni in attendance and allow alumni to participate remotely in preparation even if they are unable to attend in person. Slide show presentations with audio/video can then be compiled as a montage as part of the retirement ceremony. A few musical numbers performed by all alumni could be prepared as well. For example, the performance by Starship alumni during the February Variety Hour show could be prepared in a large group rehearsal in the mid-day so that it can be performed by many alumni that evening. The same could be done for a choral and band number where an easy but memorable piece could be prepared to be performed by all alumni and rehearsed the day of that event.
