There was much confusion in NYC For the next three days the police could do little against the mob Then the Union Army came from Pennsylvania they killed many rioters and then kill and cleared the streets of New York After Gettysburg and the return of the union army to nyc restoring peace on July 16 The Archbishop John Hughes Received peace from the Irish mobs Gov. Seymour asked Lincoln To stop the draft but he didn't Lincoln asked William Tweed to conduct the next draft in August When the next draft was held on August 19 10,000 soldiers patrolled the streets in the draft was without incident modern law-enforcement was developed in New York from after the draft All in all the draft lasted six days and there were 11 blacks eight soldiers two policemen 84 rioters killed Then in 1978 Partin Scorsese conceived the film begins of New York you redrill plan to cast Dan Aykroyd as Amsterdam vallon (the Irishman) And John Belushi as Bill the Butcher (the American) Eventually Leonardo DiCaprio was cast as Amsterdam and then Daniel Day-Lewis as the Butcher The butcher was based off Bill the Butcher pool a New York gang leader who died before the riots Also most of the gangs in this movie were based off of gangs that participated in the riots This movie was based off of a book by the same name Although the movie was originally conceived in 1978 it didn't release till 2000 This movie along with the book that it was based off of help draw attention to the draft riots
