All classes and events require advance registration. Programs are open to all military and civilian personnel and their families unless otherwise noted. For registration and information, call the Airman & Family Readiness Center at 634-3366. The A&FRC now offers childcare payment when attending certain classes indicated by this symbol. Please call the A&FRC for eligibility and procedures.

Readiness
Pre-Deployment, 0830 Every Monday at Airman & Family Readiness All personnel leaving for deployment must attend the briefing. Spouses are encouraged to attend. (Please see your UDM concerning time and location changes) Post-Deployment, 0800 Every Tuesday and Thursday Building 721 B Training Room All personnel returning from deployment must attend the briefings. Spouses are highly encourage to attend. Deployed Family Dining April 10 and 24, 1700-1900 This is a chance for deployed spouses and their families to enjoy a low cost meal from the Marshall Dining Facility as well as meet and mingle with other spouses.

Entrepreneurship Seminar for Air Force Spouses 29 April-15 May, 1730-2030 Kadena AB Airman & Family Readiness Center (A&FRC) is partnering with the University of Maryland University College Asia (UMUC) to offer a FREE entrepreneurship Seminar to Air Force spouses to help prepare them for starting their own small business. Class dates are 29 April to 15 May from 5:30pm to 8:30pm. Interested spouses will have to submit an application telling why they should be selected to attend and participate. Deadline for turning in the applications is 19 April. For more information, please contact the A&FRC located in Bldg 220 at 634-3366.

Job Search and Transition


Group Pre-Separation Counseling Every Thursday, 1400-1530 Attendance is mandatory for every military member separating or retiring. Learn about your benefits and entitlements. Pre-separation counseling required prior to attending the Transition GPS Workshop. Spouses are encouraged to attend. Transition GPS Workshop April 8-12, 0800-1630 Learn about all aspects of a job search and your benefits after separation from the military. Military members must complete pre-separation counseling prior to registering for the workshop. Spouses are encouraged to attend. Bring your laptop. Employment 101 April 15, 0900-1100 New to the island and looking for employment? Explore your options and learn new resources to help you find a job on Okinawa. Federal Job Search April 15, 0900-1100 Learn how to navigate the USAJOBS website, find jobs and apply for federal service. Also, get tips on making your application stand out and how to put together a competitive package. Veterans Affairs Briefing April 12, 0900-1200 This is an overview of several VA programs and services available to all veterans and service members. Topics: GI Bill, Medical Care, Home Loans, Vocational Rehabilitation, Disability, and VGLI.

Bundles for Babies April 23, 0900-1130 Financial planning, birth registration, Tri-care and Childcare information, and more for expectant parents. Military members receive a gift package, valued at $75.

AEON Grocery Shopping Excursion April 23, 1100-1200 Introduction tour of a Japanese grocery store. This will help you get familiarized to local food items. Bring yen for your purchases. [Please meet @ the Starbucks in AEON/American Village]

Relocation Assistance
Loan Locker Monday-Friday, 0800-1700 Visit the Kadena Loan Locker to borrow household items. Available items are dishes, microwaves, cookware and other household items to use while you are arriving or departing. Located in building 220. Please provide a copy of your PCS orders. Newcomers Orientation Every Wednesday, 0800-1545 Schilling Community Center Newcomers will receive a welcome by the 18th Wing Commander, great information for recent arrivals, mandatory military briefings, and completion of medical and TMO in-processing. Spouses are welcome to attend. Sponsorship Training April 4, 0900-1045 This class is mandatory for all first time sponsors. Participants learn the latest policies and procedures on Kadena's sponsorship program. Sponsor packages for new service members are available upon request. Plan My Move April 18, 0900-1130 Speakers from Finance, Traffic Management, Housing, Lodging, AMC Terminal, Tri-care, Medical, and Veterinary Services. Come gather information and answer questions to prepare you for your PCS move. Space-A Travel Workshop April 22, 1200-1300 This workshop is designed to prepare you for Space-A travel. Information presented by AMC representative.

Kimono Wearing April 12,, 1000-1200 Learn about the rich history of the Japanese kimono and learn how to wear this traditional style of dress. Bring a camera to take photographs. Japanese for Busy People April 2-4, 1200-1300 This is a 3day(s) lunchtime session for those wanting to learn useful words and phrases for daily living. Washi Craft April 8, 1000-1130 Learn to make decorative items with traditional Japanese craft paper. This months class will make a Japanese style picture frame. Sanshin for Beginners Every Thursday, 1700-1800 Learn a traditional Ryukyu song on the Sanshin, an Okinawan 3-string instrument. Participants can start at any time.

Annual Volunteer Recognition Ceremony April 15, 1330-1600 The Annual Volunteer Recognition Ceremony aims to recognize and appreciate the selfless efforts and wonderful contributions of the volunteers to the Kadena Community. All Volunteers are invited and welcomed to attend.
