Govt to address justice

Labour Party leader Joseph Muscat said today that Malta should embark on an agressiv publicity campaign to attract tourists who would like to visit the Mediterranean region. He said government should have already started a big campaign since millions of tourists had been planning to go to countries such as Tunisia and Egypt, which are major tourism destinations, and Malta should be aggressively promoting its own attractions instead, he said. Increase in tourism means more jobs, more money and our economy would benefit. Joseph Muscat took part in the second question and answer session organised as part of the party's conference week. During this morning's session different subjects were brought up by delegates.

The session started earlier on. Joseph Muscat highlighted the importance which his party gives to the self employed. He said that the self-employed and small businesses should compete on a level playing field where no abuses were tolerated, such as through imports which were not taxed.

Joseph Muscat reiterated his opposition to the second salary given to cabinet members. He said this issue was different from the raise to MPs. Ministers had given themselves a raise, they had done so secretly and in a bad time for the country. He said Labour MPs had reached a unanimous decision on the raise and they would refuse any increases meant to serve as a carrot to divide them from the people. When the House Business Committee meets next Tuesday, the Opposition will make a proposal that was transparent and easy for the people to understand. Judging by the way thinmgs are moving, this government did not prove itself as being a competent one said Muscat. "In the next election, the electorate must vote on competence" he reiterated. On order to present the best electoral proposals for the next election, the Labour Party has set up policy teams within its Parliamentary Group and appointed a coordinator to see things through. Joseph Muscat said enviroment and sustainable development in the South of Malta will be top priorities for a Labour government. Gozo also is the the Labours Party's mind and it will make proposals to attract investment, creating more jobs and make Gozo once again a lively island it had always been.
