How Can You Help Your Child This Week?

Please review your sons homework each night, regardless of the after school program he may attend. Simply taking ten minutes to ask him to talk about his work will be a great support. It is also important that your son brings the homework back to school. 25% of your sons grades come from successful completion and turning in of homework! Have your son read to you or a sibling for 20 to 30 minutes. Can he read 100 words or more a minute fluently? Can he discuss what he has read in detail? Spend time talking with your son about how measures things in inches and centimeters. Its not always about the correct answer. The most important learning comes when he can talk about how he arrived at an answer. Have your son write out or read out a paragraph from a book and identify the nouns, verbs, and adjectives in it. Make it a game. Boys love to be competitive. Please spend ten to fifteen minutes just reviewing the homework with him to make sure he understands what he is doing. If you would like your son to pick up his grades in reading, writing, science, or mathematics, request extra assignments. If he works hard and does well, he will be rewarded! Graded Items from last week: Fractions Quiz (Wednesday) Identify nouns, verbs, and adjectives in a passage.(Friday) Writing Prompt (Week long unit study) due Friday Social Studies Notebook Check on Friday & African Kingdoms Student ___________________________________________________ Last week, your son turned in ___________ out of ____________ homework assignments.
