Verifying the Iub Interface

This task describes how to verify whether the Iub interface is operational. The verification is performed at the RNC. Choose one of the following verification according to the transport mode over the Iub interface: 5.1 Verifying the Iub Interface (over ATM) This task describes how to verify whether the ATM-based Iub interface is operational. The verification is performed at the RNC. This task takes one NodeB as an example to describe the verification procedure. To verify the ATM-based Iub interface between the RNC and another NodeB, repeat this procedure. 5.2 Verifying the Iub Interface (over IP) This task describes how to verify whether the IP-based Iub interface is operational. The verification is performed at the RNC. This task takes one NodeB as an example to describe the verification procedure. To verify the IP-based Iub interface between the RNC and another NodeB, repeat this procedure. 5.3 Verifying the Iub Interface (over ATM and IP) This task describes how to verify whether the Iub interface is operational when ATM/IP dual stack-based transport is applied. The verification is performed at the RNC. This task takes one NodeB as an example to describe the verification of the Iub interface (over ATM and IP). 5.1 Verifying the Iub Interface (over ATM)


This task describes how to verify whether the ATM-based Iub interface is operational. The verification is performed at the RNC. This task takes one NodeB as an example to describe the verification procedure. To verify the ATM-based Iub interface between the RNC and another NodeB, repeat this procedure.

Prerequisite
l l

The RNC local office has passed commissioning. The RNC and the NodeB are physically connected, that is, the connection has passed the hardware installation acceptance. All the cells are set up on the NodeB. 5.1.1 Verifying Physical Links on the Terrestrial Interface at the RNC (over ATM) This task describes how to verify whether physical links on the ATM-based terrestrial interface are operational. 5.1.2 Verifying the Control Plane on the Iub Interface (over ATM) This task describes how to verify whether the control plane on the ATM-based Iub interface is operational. To verify the user plane on the Iub interface between the RNC and another NodeB, repeat this procedure. 5.1.3 Verifying the User Plane on the Iub Interface (over ATM) This task describes how to verify whether the user plane on the ATM-based Iub interface is operational. To verify the user plane on the Iub interface between the RNC and another NodeB, repeat this procedure. 5.1.4 Verify the Management Plane on the Iub Interface This task describes how to verify whether the management plane on the Iub interface is operational. To verify the user plane on the Iub interface between the RNC and another NodeB, repeat this procedure. 5.1.5 Verifying the Cell Setup This task describes how to verify whether the cell is available after setup at the RNC.

5.1.1 Verifying Physical Links on the Terrestrial Interface at the RNC (over ATM)
This task describes how to verify whether physical links on the ATM-based terrestrial interface are operational.

Prerequisite
l l l

The communication between the RNC FAM and the BAM is operational. The RSS and all the RBSs are operational. The LMT is started and properly communicates with the BAM.

Context
l

When the E1/T1 ports on the AEUa and AOUa boards serve as the bearing ports of the RNC, verify whether the E1/T1 physical links are operational.

5 Verifying the Iub Interface

When the optical ports on the AOUa and UOIa boards serve the interconnection between the RNC and the peer end, verify whether the optical ports are operational. Only the UOIa board serves as the interface board in ATM transport over the Iu-PS interface and you only need to verify whether the optical ports are operational.

Procedure
l Verifying E1/T1 links 1. On the MML client, run the DSP E1T1 command to set the parameters as follows:

Set Subrack No. to the number of the subrack where the interface board carrying the E1/T1 links to be queried is located. Set Slot No. to the number of the slot where the interface board carrying the E1/ T1 links to be queried is held. Set Board type to the type of the interface board carrying E1/T1 links to be queried. Set Link No. to the number of the E1/T1 links to be queried.

Expectation: For the associated E1 links, Link running state is Available. 2. If Link running state displays one of the following alarms, refer to 15.1 Unavailable E1/T1 Physical Links for troubleshooting:

Loss of Signal Alarm Indication Signal Loss of Frame Remote Alarm Loss of Multiple Frame Slip Alarm Fault

Verifying optical ports 1. On the MML client, run the DSP OPT command to set the parameters as follows:

Set Subrack No. to the number of the subrack where the optical ports to be verified are located. Set Slot No. to the number of the slot where the optical ports to be verified are held. Set Board type to the type of the board where the optical ports are located. Set Port No. to the number of the port of the board where the optical ports to be verified are located.

Expectation: For the associated optical ports, Optical port state is Normal. ----End

5.1.2 Verifying the Control Plane on the Iub Interface (over ATM)
This task describes how to verify whether the control plane on the ATM-based Iub interface is operational. To verify the user plane on the Iub interface between the RNC and another NodeB, repeat this procedure.

Prerequisite

The communication between the RNC FAM and the BAM is operational. The RSS subrack and all the RBS subracks are operational. The LMT is started and properly communicates with the BAM.

Procedure
Step 1 On the MML client, run the LST NODEB command to obtain the NodeB ID and the number of the SPUa subsystem that controls this NodeB.

Set Query type to ByNodeBName. Set NodeB Name to the name of the NodeB to be queried.

Step 2 Run the DSP SAALLNK command to set the parameters as follows:

Set Subrack No. to the number of the subrack where the SAAL link on the Iub interface is terminated. Set Slot No. to the number of the SPUa slot where the SAAL link on the Iub interface is terminated. Set Subsystem No. to the number of the SPUa subsystem where the SAAL link on the Iub interface is terminated. Set SAAL link No. to the number of the SAAL link in the SPUa subsystem.

Expectation: Operational state is Available. Step 3 Run the DSP IUBCP command to set the parameters as follows:

Set NodeB Name to the name of the NodeB where the CCP/NCP to be queried is located. Set Port type to ALL_TYPE.

Expectation: Operational state is Available. Step 4 Run the LST ADJNODE command to obtain the ID of the adjacent node that controls this NodeB. Step 5 Run the DSP ADJNODE command and set Adjacent node ID to the adjacent node ID that is obtained from Step 4. Expectation: Operational state is Available. ----End

5.1.3 Verifying the User Plane on the Iub Interface (over ATM)
This task describes how to verify whether the user plane on the ATM-based Iub interface is operational. To verify the user plane on the Iub interface between the RNC and another NodeB, repeat this procedure.

Prerequisite

The communication between the RNC FAM and the BAM is operational. The RSS subrack and all the RBS subracks are operational. The LMT is started and properly communicates with the BAM.

Procedure
On the MML client, run the DSP AAL2PATH command to set the parameters as follows:

Set Adjacent node ID to the ID of the adjacent node of the AAL2 path on the Iub interface to be queried. Set AAL2 path ID to the ID of the AAL2 path on the Iub interface to be queried.

Expectation: Operational state is Available. ----End

5.1.4 Verify the Management Plane on the Iub Interface


This task describes how to verify whether the management plane on the Iub interface is operational. To verify the user plane on the Iub interface between the RNC and another NodeB, repeat this procedure.

Prerequisite

The communication between the RNC FAM and the BAM is operational. The RSS subrack and all the RBS subracks are operational. The LMT is started and properly communicates with the BAM.

Context
You can perform verification either on the LMT or on the BAM.

Procedure
l Performing the task on the LMT 1. 2. On the MML client, run the LST BAMIPRT command to obtain the configuration of the route from the BAM to the NodeB subnet. Run the PING IP command to set the parameters as follows:

Set Subrack No. to the number of the subrack carrying the Iub interface. Set Slot No. to the number of the slot carrying the Iub interface. Set Source IP address to the IP address of the board carrying the Iub interface. Set Destination address to the IP address of the connected NodeB.

Expectation: The Execution succeeded message is displayed.


NOTE

If the firewall exists at the peer end, pinging the peer IP address in the functional network may fail.

Performing the task on the BAM 1. 2. Enter the MML mode of operating system of the BAM. Input Ping NodeB IP Address. Expectation: The result contains TX/RX traffic.
NOTE

If the firewall exists at the peer end, pinging the peer IP address in functional network may fail.

5.1.5 Verifying the Cell Setup


This task describes how to verify whether the cell is available after setup at the RNC.

Prerequisite

The communication between the RNC FAM and the BAM is operational. The RSS subrack and all the RBS subracks are operational. The LMT is started and properly communicates with the BAM.

Procedure
On the MML client, run the DSP CELL command and set Query type to BYNODEB (Query by NodeB). Expectation: For all the cells, Operational state is Available. If Operational state is Unavailable, refer to 15.4 Cell Setup Failures for troubleshooting. ----End

5.2 Verifying the Iub Interface (over IP)


This task describes how to verify whether the IP-based Iub interface is operational. The verification is performed at the RNC. This task takes one NodeB as an example to describe the verification procedure. To verify the IP-based Iub interface between the RNC and another NodeB, repeat this procedure.

Prerequisite

The RNC hardware has passed the commissioning. The RNC and the NodeB are physically connected, that is, the connection has passed the hardware installation acceptance. All the cells are set up on the NodeB. 5.2.1 Verifying Physical Links on the Terrestrial Interface at the RNC (over IP) This task describes how to verify whether physical links on the IP-based terrestrial interface are operational. 5.2.2 Verifying the Control Plane on the Iub Interface (over IP) This task describes how to verify whether the control plane on the IP-based Iub interface is operational. 5.2.1 Verifying Physical Links on the Terrestrial Interface at the RNC (over IP)
This task describes how to verify whether physical links on the IP-based terrestrial interface are operational.

Prerequisite

The communication between the RNC FAM and the BAM is operational. The RSS and all the RBSs are operational. The LMT is started and properly communicates with the BAM.

Context

When the E1/T1 port on the PEUa board serves as the bearing port of the RNC, verify whether the physical links on the E1/T1 port, PPP links, and MLPPP group are operational. When the FE/GE port on the FG2a and GOUa boards serve as the bearing port of the RNC, verify whether the physical links on the FE/GE port are operational.

Procedure
l Verifying E1/T1 links 1. On the MML client, run the DSP E1T1 command to set the parameters as follows:

Set Subrack No. to the number of the subrack where the interface board carrying the E1/T1 links to be queried is located. Set Slot No. to the number of the slot where the interface board carrying the E1/ T1 links to be queried is held. Set Board type to the type of the interface board carrying E1/T1 links to be queried. Set Link No. to the number of the E1/T1 links to be queried.

Expectation: For the associated E1 links, Link running state is Available. If Link running state displays one of the following alarms, refer to 15.1 Unavailable E1/T1 Physical Links for troubleshooting:

Set Slot No. to the number of the slot where the interface board carrying the PPP link to be queried is held. Set PPP link No. to the number of the PPP link to be queried.

Expectation: For the associated PPP link, Link state is UP. 3. Run the DSP MPGRP command to set the parameters as follows:

Set Subrack No. to the number of the subrack where the MLPPP link to be queried is located. Set Slot No. to the number of the slot where the interface board carrying the MLPPP link to be queried is held. Set MLPPP Group No. to the number of the MLPPP link group to be queried.

Expectation: For the associated E1 link, Link state is Normal. l Verifying physical links on the FE/GE Port On the MML client, run the DSP ETHPORT command to set the parameters as follows:

Set Subrack No. to the number of the subrack where the interface board carrying the FE/GE links to be queried is located. Set Slot No. to the number of the slot where the interface board carrying the FE/GE links to be queried is held. Set Port No. to the number of the FE/GE port to be queried.

Expectation: For the physical links on the FE/GE port, Link Availability Status is Available. If the verification fails and one of the following is displayed, refer to 15.2 Unavailable FE/ GE Physical Links.

Link Availability Status is Unavailable. Port state is Deactivated . Configured is No.

5.2.2 Verifying the Control Plane on the Iub Interface (over IP)
This task describes how to verify whether the control plane on the IP-based Iub interface is operational. To verify the user plane on the Iub interface between the RNC and another NodeB, repeat this procedure.

Prerequisite

The LMT is started and properly communicates with the BAM. The communication between the RNC FAM and the BAM is operational. The RSS subrack and all the RBS subracks are operational.

Procedure
Step 1 On the MML client, run the LST NODEB command to obtain the number of the SPUa subsystem that controls this NodeB.

Set Query type to ByNodeBName.

Set NodeB Name to the name of the NodeB to be queried.

Step 2 For each SPUa subsystem where the SCTP is terminated on the Iub interface, run the DSP SCTPLNK command to set the parameters as follows:

Set Subrack No. to the number of the subrack to which the Iub interface to be queried is connected. Set Slot No. to the number of the slot to which the Iub interface to be queried is connected. Set Subsystem No. to the number of the subsystem that controls this NodeB.

Expectation: Operational state is Available. Step 3 Run the DSP IUBCP command to set the parameters as follows:

Set NodeB Name to the name of the NodeB to be queried. Set Port type to ALL_TYPE.

Expectation: Operational state is Available. ----End

5.2.3 Verifying the User Plane on the Iub Interface (over IP)
This task describes how to verify whether the user plane on the IP-based Iub interface is operational. To verify the user plane on the Iub interface between the RNC and another NodeB, repeat this procedure.

Prerequisite

The communication between the RNC FAM and the BAM is operational. The RSS subrack and all the RBS subracks are operational. The LMT is started and properly communicates with the BAM.

Procedure
Step 1 On the MML client, run the DSP IPPATH command to query the state of the IP path.

Set Adjacent node ID to the ID of the adjacent node of the IP path on the Iub interface. Set IP path ID to the ID of the IP path on the Iub interface.

Expectation: Operational state is Available. Step 2 This step is optional. If the Iub interface is configured with the transmission resource group, run the DSP RSCGRP command to query the states of all the transmission resource groups.

Set Subrack No. to the number of the subrack where the resource group to be queried is located. Set Slot No. to the number of the slot to which the Iub interface to be queried is connected. Set Subsystem No. to the number of the SPUa subsystem where the Iub interface is located. Set Resource Group No. to the number of the resource group to be queried.

5.2.4 Verify the Management Plane on the Iub Interface


This task describes how to verify whether the management plane on the Iub interface is operational. To verify the user plane on the Iub interface between the RNC and another NodeB, repeat this procedure.

Procedure
On the MML client, run the DSP CELL command and set Query type to BYNODEB (Query by NodeB). Expectation: For all the cells, Operational state is Available. If Operational state is Unavailable, refer to 15.4 Cell Setup Failures for troubleshooting. ----End

5.3 Verifying the Iub Interface (over ATM and IP)


This task describes how to verify whether the Iub interface is operational when ATM/IP dual stack-based transport is applied. The verification is performed at the RNC. This task takes one NodeB as an example to describe the verification of the Iub interface (over ATM and IP). To verify the ATM/IP dual stack-based Iub interface between the RNC and another NodeB, repeat this procedure.

Prerequisite

The RNC hardware has passed the commissioning. The RNC and the NodeB are physically connected, that is, the connection has passed the hardware installation acceptance. All the cells are set up on the NodeB.

Context
When applying for transmission resources, the RNC can determine whether ATM transport or IP transport is used to carry the current services according to the TRM mapping. To verify the ATM/IP dual stack-based Iub interface is to verify the ATM-based Iub interface and the IPbased Iub interface respectively.

Procedure
Step 1 Verify physical links on the Iub interface.

When the ATM transport is applied, refer to 5.1.1 Verifying Physical Links on the Terrestrial Interface at the RNC (over ATM). When the IP transport is applied, refer to 5.2.1 Verifying Physical Links on the Terrestrial Interface at the RNC (over IP).

Step 2 Verify the control plane on the Iub interface.

When the ATM transport is applied, refer to 5.1.2 Verifying the Control Plane on the Iub Interface (over ATM). When the IP transport is applied, refer to 5.2.2 Verifying the Control Plane on the Iub Interface (over IP).

Step 3 Verify the user plane on the Iub interface.

When the ATM transport is applied, refer to 5.1.3 Verifying the User Plane on the Iub Interface (over ATM). When the IP transport is applied, refer to 5.2.3 Verifying the User Plane on the Iub Interface (over IP). When the ATM transport is applied, refer to 5.1.4 Verify the Management Plane on the Iub Interface. When the IP transport is applied, refer to 5.1.4 Verify the Management Plane on the Iub Interface.
