Standard Specification for Deformed and Plain Billet-Steel Bars for Concrete Reinforcement'

1. Scope 1.1 This spenficatlon covers deformed and plan bllletsted bars for concrete reinforcement in cut lengths and c o b The standard mes and &mensions of deformed bars and theu number deslgnanons shall be those listed m Table 1. The text of tius spedicatlon references notes and footnotes wluch pronde explanatory matenal These notes and footnotes (excludmg those m tables and figures) shall not be consdered as reqlurements of the spenficanon 1 2 Bars are of three mnimum yeld levels namely, 40 000 [300 MPa], 60 000 [420 MPa], and 75 000 psi [520 MPa], designated as Grade 40 [300], Grade 60 [420], and Grade 75 [520], respecnvely. 1 3 Hot-rolled plan rounds, in slzes up to and includmg 2 m [50.8 mm] in dmmeter ~n coils or cut lengths, when specified for dowels, spuds and structural ties or supports shall be fumshed under tius speclficanon in Grade 40 13001, Grade 60 [420], and Grade 75 [520]. 13 2 Tens~on test specimens shall be the full semen of the bar as rolled The unlt stress detemnatlon shall be based on the nominal bar area. 13 3 The bend-test spenmens shall be the full sectlon of the bar as rolled.
14. Number of Tests 14.1 For bar szes No. 3 to 11 [I0 to 361, incluave, one tenslon test and one bend test shall be made of the largest sue rolled from each heat If, however, matenal from one heat lffers by three or more deslgnatlon numbers, one tension and one bend test shall be made from both the hlghest and lowest deslgnatlon number of the deformed bars rolled 14 2 For bar sizes Nos. 14 and 18 [43 and 571, one tenslon test and one bend test shall be made of each sue rolled from each heat. 15. Retests 15 1 If any tenule property of any tenslon test speamen IS less than that speclfred, and any pan of the fracture 1s outslde the m~ddle .hrd of the gage length, as mdxated by scnbe scratches marked on the spenmen before testlng, a retest shall be allowed. 15 2 If the results of an ongnal tension specxmen fad to meet the spec~tiedm~ntmumrequxrements and are wthm 2000 p a [14 MPa] of the requmd tensde strength, wthm 1000 p s ~ [7 MPa] of the reqwed veld potnt, or w h n two percentage umts of the requued elongat~on, a retest shall be permmed on two random speamens for each ongnal tenslon speclmen fadure from the lot Both retest speclmens shall meet the requlrements of Uus spec~ficaeon. 15 3 If a bend test f& for reasons other than mechamcal reasons or flaws m the speclmen as descnbed In 15 5 and 15 6, a retest shall be perm~ttedon two random speamens from the same lot Both retest specimens shall meet the reqrunments of t h ~ s speuficat~on.The retest shall be performed on test speamens that are at am temperature but not less than 60'F [ 1VC]. 15 4 If a we~ght[mass] test fads for reasons other than flaws in the speclmen as descnbed In 15 6, a retest shall be pernutted on two random speclmens from the same lot Both retest speclmens shall meet the requlrements of t h ~ speclfis catlon 15.5 If any test speclmen fads because of mechanical reasons such as fadure of testmg equipment or Improper spenmen preparation, it may be dncarded and another speclmen taken 15.6 If any test speamen develops flaws, it may be lscarded and another speclmen of the same w e bar from the same heat substituted

17. Rejection 17 1 Unless othenvlse speafied, any reje&on based on tests made In accordance w t h 6.2, shall be reported to the manufacturer wthm five worldng days from the recelpt of samples by the purchaser. 17 2 Matenal that shows tnjunous defects subsequent to ~ t acceptance s at the manufacturer's works unll be rejected, and the manufacturer shall be noafied 18.
