Kids-only Board of Directors
shapes dental office decisions
On March 16, 2013, Bullard
Childrens Dentistry held its 7th
annual Board of Directors meet-
ing. This years Board consists of
children ages 5 to 13 years old.
After taking the Oath of Office
administered by Dr. George
Bullard, this very special group
generated many creative ideas and
provided excellent feedback for
the staff at Bullard Childrens Den-
tistry.
Twelve board members came to-
gether to brainstorm on a number
of topics, including how to make
the waiting room even more fun (a
zip line to the treatment chairs) and
making the outside of the building
eye-catching (a topiary of Dr.
George). The Board also voted for
their favorite flavors of toothpaste
and fluoride, and which toys
should be in the Treasure Box.
As a special project this year,
each Board member designed and
created a necktie for Dr. George.
The participants were selected
based on nomination letters sub-
mitted by parents. A new Board is
selected annually. Each Board
member serves for one year.

KOHLER VILLAGER 7
In January, the faculty of Kohler
High School selected representa-
tives to attend the 2013 Badger
Girls and Boys State programs.
Criteria for selection included
leadership, scholarship, service,
and participation in school activi-
ties.
Delegates selected for Badger
Girls State which is held on the
University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh
Campus in June are: Annebelle
Goese, daughter of Michael Goese
and Christel Robertson, and Grace
Lofgren, daughter of Christopher
Lofgren and Holly Lofgren.
Lindsey Griswold, daughter of
Bob and Jenelle Griswold and
Anne Benishek, daughter of Brian
and Carol Benishek , were selected
as alternates for the Badger Girls
program. Lindsey will attend as an
alternate in place of Annebelle
Goese.
Badger Girls State is a week of
learning about local, county and
state government. American Le-
gion Auxiliary Badger Girls State
is not a recreational or sports pro-
gram. Citizens are divided into
two political partiesthe Federal-
ists and Nationalists. They de-
velop their own party platforms
and formulate their own issues.
Citizens learn by doing as they
function on city, county and state
levels by electing officials in the
manner prescribed by regular elec-
tion procedures and conducting
business on those levels. Every
girl is encouraged to participate in
some level of the governmental
process.
Derek Egbert, son of Paul and
Sonia Egbert, and Andrew Grose,
son of Greg and Jennifer Grose
were selected to participate in the
Badger Boys State on the Ripon
College campus.
Philip Case, son of Jim and
Nancy Case, and Zach Neil, son of
Dale and Linda Neil were selected
as alternates for the Badger Boys
program.
Badger Boys State participants
develop their own party platforms,
pass local ordinances and utilize a
state patrol and judicial system to
enforce the laws and constitution
of the 51st state. Additionally, cit-
izens choose from a series of
schools of instruction such as: law,
peace officer, leadership, public
speaking, parliamentary proce-
dure, and lobbying and campaign
strategies, among others. Badger
Boys State citizens also have an
opportunity to participate in a va-
riety of team sports that compete
throughout the week, a band and
choir, or write for the Badger
Bugle Citizen, the official newspa-
per of Badger Boys State.
The Prescott-Bayens Post N. 83
of the American Legion and the
American Legion Auxiliary spon-
sor these programs to foster an un-
derstanding of American
government. Students from
throughout the state learn the prin-
ciples of democracy by living to-
gether as self-governing citizens,
studying the Constitution and shar-
ing experiences that demonstrate
both the privileges and responsibil-
ities of citizenship.

Celebrating Dr. Seusss birthday
has become a big deal for Kohler
Elementary students. The Kinder-
garten and 1st grade students had
opportunities all week to hear his
books come to life and created
some creative art projects. On Fri-
day, March 1st, these students wel-
comed a guest reader to the library.
It was the famous Cat in the Hat.
Students in grades 2 and 3 were
also given time to recall those fa-
mous Dr. Seuss stories and then
were quizzed on the characters.
Winners were Emma Truman,
Olivia Hunsucker, Aidan McCann,
Donny Sobecki, David Unger and
Kimmy Schipper. They had their
names on the winners wall outside
Mrs. Roths room.
The 4th and 5th graders had an
opportunity to research, read and
take quizzes about Dr. Seuss using
I-pads in the classrooms, as a
Bomber Time activity. This was
organized by Mrs. Arentsen.
The school was decorated with
art projects, new bulletin boards
and special stickers given to all
those who participated in celebrat-
ing this famous childrens author.

Spring Election, Tuesday, April
2: The Spring Election will be
held Tuesday, April 2. The
polling place is located in the
Kirkpatrick Center at the Kohler
Village Hall, 319 Highland Drive,
and will be open from 7:00 am to
8:00 pm. Voter registration is
available on Election Day.
Water/Sewer Utility ACH
Available: The Village of Kohler
Water and Sewer Utility is now
able to accept ACH payments for
your water and sewer utility bill.
How does this work? Once you
are signed up for direct payment,
your utility payment will be auto-
matically withdrawn from your
bank account on the due date of
the billing for the amount due.
You will still receive a billing
statement each quarter indicating
the amount that will be with-
drawn from your account and the
date of the withdrawal. No
checks to write, no postage, no
late fees. If you are interested in
signing up you will need to com-
plete a Direct Payment Agree-
ment Form. Forms are available
in the Clerk-Treasurers Office or
online at www.kohlervillage.org.
Return your form along with a
voided check to the Clerk-Trea-
surers Office.

Chief Bill

Just a reminder: Drivers should
be aware that the warmer weather
will allow more and more bicy-
cles and scooters to be out and
about. Please be aware of the
children when driving through
the village. Bikes and scooters
are allowed on the sidewalks.
Scooters are not allowed on the
streets. Also, the newer motorized
scooters are not allowed on the
streets or sidewalks. Those are al-
lowed on private property only.
Parking issues: Recently I had a
conversation with a resident on
Audubon Rd. It was about park-
ing and the difficulty of backing
out of their driveway due to
neighbors vehicles parked
nearby. There apparently are cars
near the driveway and across the
street. The citizen was wondering
if the street could be marked so
parking was allowed on only one
side, so traffic would flow and to
make it easier to back out. We do
this during Special Events like
the July 4
th
Fireworks. This issue
would be the same on other
streets in that West II subdivision,
Hill St., Pinetree Rd. and Green-
tree Rd. These streets were engi-
neered more narrow than what
streets are engineered for now.
When cars are parked on both
sides of the street the roadway is
very narrow. Before making an
ordinance change, the Village
Trustees wanted the neighbors to
be aware that they should be cog-
nizant of the other cars around
them when parking, so they dont
clog the street. The Village would
like to leave it the way it is, but
will make a change if parking be-
comes a problem.

Works

designated fall leaf collection
program only. Large volumes of

REPORTING OF ILLICIT
DISCHARGE: It is a require-
ment in the Village of Kohler
Storm Water Permit with the
DNR to educate the Public on il-
licit discharges to the storm water
system. An illicit discharge would
be the dumping of any chemical,
pet waste, or hazardous substance
into the street or a storm basin
inlet. The substance would even-
tually make its way into the She-
boygan River causing a pollution
hazard. To report an illicit dis-
charge, please call the Public
Works office at 459-3881.
STORMWATER POLLUTION
PREVENTION: Water flowing
into stormwater inlets in the
street goes directly to the She-
boygan River. To prevent
stormwater pollution:
Clean up pet waste and dispose in
a proper manner.
Avoid over fertilizing your lawn.
Mulching your grass can provide
a natural fertilizer.
Do not blow grass clippings and
yard debris into the street.
Wash your vehicles on the grass
to avoid soapsuds from washing
down your driveway and into the
street.

A remarkable experience:
Kohler fifth graders attend
Trees for Tomorrow
By Courtney Yang
Whats your dream vacation?
Is it snorkeling, rock climbing, or
hiking? Well, fourteen fifth
graders from Kohler Elementary
recently had an experience that
may change your mind!
From February 18-20th, several
lucky students attended Trees for
Tomorrow (TFT), in Eagle River.
TFT was founded in 1944 by a
group of Wisconsin paper and
electric utility companies. The in-
tent was to reforest northern Wis-
consin by giving seedlings to
landowners and educating the
public about our fragile natural re-
sources. Their efforts still carry
on today!
When the fifth grade students
visited TFT, we engaged in activ-
ities pertaining to their mission
statement. Our learning experi-
ences included both classroom
and in the field activities. These
included snowshoe hiking, mak-
ing paper, and learning about Wis-
consins wildlife such as bear,
wolves, deer, and raptors. Isabel
ODonnell, a fifth grade student,
said, My favorite part was build-
ing fires outdoors.you had to use
teamwork to make sure the fire
didnt go out.
This trip was made possible by
generous donations by several
local individuals. Kohler Elemen-
tary hopes to send 14 more fifth
graders in October of next school
year instead of the winter. Anyone
interested in donating and making
this trip a reality for a group of
next years fifth graders should
contact Mr. DuMez at (920)
803-7234 or
dumezd@kohler.k12.wi.us.
Courtney Yang was one of the 14
fifth graders who attended TfT this
year. She is a student in Mrs. Eick-
holts 4/5 class this year.
