Remove Toothed Belt

1. The old belt is removed from right to left, and the new belt is also installed from right to left. 2. Unscrew the gantry hood screws and set the gantry hood or covers aside (Fig A). 3. Loosen the 3/16 black belt tensioner lock screw located on the bottom of the right end of the rail, one turn (Fig B). This screw has a red dot next to it. WARNING: Do not over loosen this screw - one full turn is usually sufficient.

4. Locate and remove the two 5/32 Allen screws and washers from the holes provided on the lower gantry plate above the black drive motor (Fig C). 5. Locate the belt tensioner hole on the end of the belt tensioner bracket (Fig D). Place the 5/32 Allen screws and washers into the belt tensioner holes (Fig E) on the belt tensioner brackets. Tighten this screw to compress the bracket flush with the rail so that the tensioner springs are not visible. 6. Go back and tighten the black 3/16 belt tensioner bracket screw with the red dot next to it (Fig F).

7. Lift the toothed belt end (Fig G) out of the belt tensioner slot (Fig H). Pushing the toothed belt end to the right may assist in getting a hold of it. 8. Unscrew the 1/8 Allen screw on the clamp that holds the belt to the tensioner and remove the belt end from it (Fig I).

Install New Toothed Belt

1. Take a strip of matboard about (9mm) wide and 7 (18cm) long, and insert it on the inside of the bottom right pulley. Angle it to the right so that it slides out into the belt channel below (Fig A). 2. Locate the replacement toothed belt (Fig B) and place the free end, teeth down, onto the strip of matboard on the belt channel. 3. Push the free end of the replacement toothed belt to the left so that it goes up the matboard guide under the right pulley and over the toothed sprocket (Fig C). Gently pulling the strip of matboard may assist the movement of the toothed belt.

Fig B.

Fig C.

4. Remove the strip of matboard and insert it in the same manner on the inside of the bottom left pulley and into the channel below, angling it to the left this time (Fig D). 5. Place the toothed belt over the toothed sprocket, onto the top of the matboard strip (Fig E) and under the left pulley and out onto the belt channel. Gently pulling the strip of matboard may assist the movement of the toothed belt. 6. Remove the strip of matboard.

7. Line up the last three teeth of the Toothed Belt to the three teeth of the Belt Anchor. Secure the Toothed Belt into place by tightening the 1/8 Allen Screw on the flat lock plate (Fig F). 8. Lightly pull the toothed belt toward the right to take up the slack and pull the belt anchor into place flush with the end of the CMC (Fig G).

Fig F.

Fig G.

9. If necessary, rotate the toothed pulley so that the red mark is on the top (Fig H). Line up the red mark of the toothed belt to the red mark of the toothed pulley; this may require moving the gantry a bit in either direction (Fig I-J). Pull toothed belt to the right to take up slack. Do not move the gantry after red marks line up.

10. Make sure that the toothed belt is not twisted and that the teeth are facing down toward the board into the rail channel (Fig K). Slide the screw of the belt end (Fig L) into the belt tensioner slot (Fig M). Go back and make sure red lines are still lined up (Fig I-J).
