Scriptural Foundation: Noah walked with God. . . . Noah did this; he did all that God commanded him. Genesis 6:9b, 22 Session 4: God Makes a Promise to Noah Scripture: Genesis 9:817 Main Idea for the Teacher: God set a rainbow in the sky as a sign of Gods covenant with Noah and all the people of the earth.

2 Focus for the Child: God gave us a rainbow to remind us that God loves us. Scriptural Foundation: God said, This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: I have set my bow in the clouds, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Genesis 9:1213 Session 5: God Promises Abraham and Sarah a Family Scripture: Genesis 17:18, 1522 Main Idea for the Teacher: God promised Abraham and Sarah descendants and a land. Focus for the Child: God told Abraham and Sarah that they would have a big family and a place to live. Scriptural Foundation: Then Abram fell on his face; and God said to him, As for me, this is my covenant with you: You shall be the ancestor of a multitude of nations. Genesis 17:34 Question 16. What is in this agreement? When God called Abraham and Sarah, God promised to bless their family, which was later called Israel. Through the people of Israel, God vowed to bless all the peoples of the earth. God promised to be Israels God, and they promised to be Gods people. God vowed to love Israel and to be their hope forever, and Israel vowed to worship and serve only God.

Session 6: Gods Promise Comes True: Isaac Is Born Scripture: Genesis 18:115; 21:17 Main Idea for the Teacher: God fulfilled the promise to Abraham and Sarah, and Isaac was born. Focus for the Child: Abraham and Sarah had a child. Scriptural Foundation: The LORD dealt with Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did for Sarah as he had promised. . . . Abraham gave the name Isaac to his son whom Sarah bore him. Genesis 21:1, 3 Question 16. What is in this agreement? But when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably to him. Genesis 37:3-4 Session 8: Joseph in Egypt Scripture: Genesis 37:136; 39:146:7 Main Idea for the Teacher: In Egypt, Joseph was a leader. Focus for the Child: Joseph was a leader. Scriptural Foundation: So Pharaoh said to Joseph, Since God has shown you all this, there is no one so discerning and wise as you. You shall be over my house, and all my people shall order themselves as you command; only with regard to the throne will I be greater than you. Genesis 41:3940 Session 9: Hannah Prays to God Scripture: 1 Samuel 1 [emphasis on 1 Samuel 1:118] Main Idea for the Teacher: Hannah was deeply distressed and prayed to God. Focus for the Child: Hannah was sad and prayed to God. Scriptural Foundation: She was deeply distressed and prayed to the LORD, and wept bitterly. 1 Samuel 1:10 Session 10: God Hears Hannahs Prayer Scripture: 1 Samuel 1; 2:110 [emphasis on 1 Samuel 1:1928; 2:110] Main Idea for the Teacher: Hannah had a child and named him Samuel; she gave thanks to God. Focus for the Child: Hannah had a baby and thanked God. Scriptural Foundation: For this child I prayed; and the LORD has granted me the petition that I made to him. Therefore I have lent him to the LORD; as long as he lives, he is given to the LORD. She left him there for the LORD. 1 Samuel 1:2728

Scriptural Foundation: David said, The LORD, who saved me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, will save me from the hand of this Philistine. So Saul said to David, Go, and may the LORD be with you! 1 Samuel 17:37 Session 12: David, the King Scripture: 2 Samuel 5:15; 6:15 Main Idea for the Teacher: David loved God and led Gods people. Focus for the Child: David loved God. Scriptural Foundation: For some time, while Saul was king over us, it was you who led out Israel and brought it in. The LORD said to you: It is you who shall be shepherd of my people Israel, you who shall be ruler over Israel. 2 Samuel 5:2 Session 13: An Angel Visits Mary Scripture: Luke 1:2638 Main Idea for the Teacher: Mary learned that she was going to have a baby. Focus for the Child: Mary found out she was going to have a baby. Scriptural Foundation: The angel said to her, Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. Session 1: An Angel Visits Joseph Scripture: Matthew 1:1824 Main Idea for the Teacher: Joseph learned that Mary was going to have a baby. Focus for the Child: Joseph found out Mary was going to have a baby. Scriptural Foundation: But just when he had resolved to do this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the child conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. Matthew 1:20 Session 2: Jesus Is Born in Bethlehem Scripture: Luke 2:120 [emphasis on Luke 2:17] Main Idea for the Teacher: Jesus was born in Bethlehem. Focus for the Child: Jesus was born in Bethlehem. Scriptural Foundation: And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in bands of cloth, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. Luke 2:7 Session 3: Jesus Is Born and the World Rejoices Scripture: Luke 2:120 [emphasis on Luke 2:820] Main Idea for the Teacher: Angels announced Jesus birth and shepherds visited the baby. Focus for the Child: Jesus was born and everyone was excited. Scriptural Foundation: But the angel said to them, Do not be afraid; for seeI am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord. Luke 2:1011 Session 4: Mary and Joseph and Simeon and Anna Are Thankful for Jesus Scripture: Luke 2:2140 Main Idea for the Teacher: Jesus was blessed at the temple. Focus for the Child: Jesus was blessed at the temple. Scriptural Foundation: And the childs father and mother were amazed at what was being said about him.

6 Luke 2:33 Session 5: Jesus Grew Scripture: Luke 2:2140 [emphasis on Luke 2:3940] Main Idea for the Teacher: Jesus lived with his family in Nazareth. Focus for the Child: Jesus lived with his family in Nazareth. Scriptural Foundation: When they had finished everything required by the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth. The child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom; and the favor of God was upon him. Luke 2:3940 Session 6: Jesus Is Baptized Scripture: Mark 1:911, 14b15 Main Idea for the Teacher: Jesus was baptized. Focus for the Child: Jesus was baptized. Scriptural Foundation: In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And just as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit descending like a dove on him. And a voice came from heaven, You are my Son, the Beloved; with you I am well pleased. Mark 1:14b15 Session 8: Jesus Teaches Us to Shine Scripture: Matthew 5:1416 Main Idea for the Teacher: Jesus teaches us to let our love for God be seen by others. Matthew 5:16 Session 9: Jesus Teaches Us Not to Worry Scripture: Matthew 6:2534 Main Idea for the Teacher: We trust that God loves us and cares for uswe dont need to worry. Focus for the Child: I know God loves me and cares for me. Scriptural Foundation: Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Matthew 6:26 Session 10: Jesus Teaches Us to Build Our Faith on Him Scripture: Matthew 7:2427 Main Idea for the Teacher: Our faith is strong because it is built on Jesus teachings. Focus for the Child: I learn from Jesus stories. Scriptural Foundation: Everyone then who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. Matthew 7:24 Session 11: Jesus Teaches Us that Little Things Can Grow into Big Things Scripture: Matthew 13:3132 Main Idea for the Teacher: The kingdom of heaven grows when we tell others about Jesus. Focus for the Child: I can tell others about Jesus. Scriptural Foundation: [The mustard seed] is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches. Matthew 13:32 Session 12: Jesus Teaches Us to Listen to God Scripture: Luke 8:415 Main Idea for the Teacher: Our faith grows as we learn about Jesus. Focus for the Child: As I grow, I learn about Jesus. Scriptural Foundation: But as for that in the good soil, these are the ones who, when they hear the word, hold it fast in an honest and good heart, and bear fruit with patient endurance.

8 Luke 8:15 Session 13: Jesus Teaches Us That God Loves Us Scripture: Luke 15:1124 Main Idea for the Teacher: Like a father who welcomes home his wayward son, God loves us no matter what. Focus for the Child: God loves me all the time. Scriptural Foundation: So he set off and went to his father. But while he was still far off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion; he ran and put his arms around him and kissed him. Luke 15:20

Session 1: Jesus Teaches the Disciples a Prayer Scripture: Luke 11:14 Main Idea: The disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray; Jesus taught them the Lords Prayer. Focus for the Child: Jesus taught the disciples a prayer. Scriptural Foundation: He was praying in a certain place, and after he had finished, one of his disciples said to him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples. Luke 11:1 Session 2: We Learn the Lords Prayer Scripture: Luke 11:14 Main Idea: Jesus taught the Lords Prayer to his disciples; we still pray the Lords Prayer today. Focus for the Child: I learn the Lords Prayer. Scriptural Foundation: Jesus said to them, When you pray, say: Father, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins, For we ourselves forgive everyone indebted to us. And do not bring us to the time of trial. Luke 11:24 Session 3: Four Friends Believe That Jesus Can Heal Scripture: Mark 2:15 Main Idea: Four people brought their friend to Jesus to be healed. Focus for the Child: People believed that Jesus could heal. Scriptural Foundation: When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, Son, your sins are forgiven. Mark 2:5 Session 4: Jesus Heals the Four Friends Friend Scripture: Mark 2:15 Main Idea: Jesus healed a person who could not walk. Focus for the Child: Jesus healed.

Scriptural Foundation: One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peters brother, said to him, There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish. But what are they among so many people? John 6:89 Session 6: Jesus Feeds a Crowd Scripture: John 6:114 Main Idea: A boy gave his lunch to Jesus; Jesus used the boys food to feed many people. Focus for the Child: Jesus fed many people. Scriptural Foundation: Then Jesus took the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed them to those who were seated; so also the fish, as much as they wanted. John 6:11 Session 7: Jesus Enters Jerusalem: Palm Sunday Scripture: Matthew 11:111 Main Idea: Jesus entered Jerusalem and the gathered crowd greeted him with shouts of praise. Focus for the Child: People were happy to see Jesus. Scriptural Foundation: The crowds that went ahead of him and that followed were shouting, Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven! Matthew 21:9 Session 8: Jesus Is Risen! Scripture: John 20:118 [Writers focus on John 20:110] Main Idea: Mary Magdalene, Simon Peter, and another disciple went to the tomb. They were surprised not to find Jesus. Focus for the Child: Jesus friends went to the tomb. Jesus was not there. Scriptural Foundation:

11 So Mary Magdalene ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him. John 20:2 Session 9: Jesus Appears to Mary Scripture: John 20:118 [Writers focus on John 20:1118] Main Idea: Jesus appeared to Mary in the garden and called her by name. She told the other disciples, I have seen the Lord! Focus for the Child: Jesus talked to Mary in the garden and she told the other disciples. Scriptural Foundation: Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, I have seen the Lord; and she told them that he had said these things to her. John 20:18 Session 10: Jesus Helps the Disciples Catch Fish Scripture: John 21:114 Main Idea: Jesus helped the disciples catch fish and the disciples recognized him. Focus for the Child: The disciples were fishing and Jesus helped them. Scriptural Foundation: He said to them, Cast the net to the right side of the boat, and you will find some. So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in because there were so many fish. John 21:6 Session 11: Jesus and the Disciples Share a Meal Together Scripture: John 21:114 Main Idea: Jesus and the disciples shared a meal together and they knew it was Jesus. Focus for the Child: Jesus and the disciples ate together. Scriptural Foundation: Jesus said to them, Come and have breakfast. Now none of the disciples dared to ask him, Who are you? because they knew it was the Lord. John 21:12 Session 12: Jesus Gives Peter a Big Job Scripture: John 21:1517 Main Idea: Jesus gave Peter a big job to do. Focus for the Child: Jesus gave Peter a big job. Scriptural Foundation:

Focus for Child: Jesus chose Peter to be a leader. Scriptural Foundation: And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it. Matthew 16:18a Session 2: Peter Leads Jesus Church Scripture: Acts 1:1214, Acts 2:14a Main Idea: On the day of Pentecost, surrounded by the disciples, Peter stood and preached. Focus for Child: Peter led Jesus church. Scriptural Foundation: But Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed them, Men of Judea and all who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to what I say. Acts 2:14a Session 3: Peter Heals a Man Scripture: Acts 3:19 Main Idea: Peter gave a man who asked for money a much more valuable gift. Focus for Child: Peter healed a man. Scriptural Foundation: But Peter said, I have no silver or gold, but what I have I give you; in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, stand up and walk. Acts 3:6 Session 4: The Man Who Leaped and Praised Scripture: Acts 3:19 Main Idea: A man whom Peter healed joined Peter and John in the temple and praised God. Focus for Child: A man who could not walk, jumped up and praised God. Scriptural Foundation: Jumping up, he stood and began to walk, and he entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God. Acts 3:8

Focus for Child: Paul learned about Jesus. Scriptural Foundation: For several days he was with the disciples in Damascus, and immediately he began to proclaim Jesus in the synagogues, saying, He is the Son of God. Acts 9:19b20 Session 6: Paul Tells Lydia Good News Scripture: Acts 16:1315 Main Idea: Paul shared the gospel and Lydia believed. Focus for Child: Lydia heard the story of Jesus and believed. Scriptural Foundation: A certain woman named Lydia, a worshiper of God, was listening to us; she was from the city of Thyatira and a dealer in purple cloth. The Lord opened her heart to listen eagerly to what was said by Paul. Acts 16:14 Session 7: Lydia Welcomes Paul into Her Home Scripture: Acts 16:1315 Main Idea: In faithful response, Lydia welcomed Paul into her home. Focus for Child: Paul stayed at Lydias house. Scriptural Foundation: When she and her household were baptized, she urged us, saying, If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come and stay at my home. And she prevailed upon us. Acts 16:15 Session 8: Paul and Silas Are Thrown in Jail Scripture: Acts 16:2334 Main Idea: When Paul and Silas were in jail, they prayed and praised God. Focus for Child: In jail, Paul and Silas praised God. Scriptural Foundation: About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them. Acts 16:25 Session 9: The Jailer Who Believed Scripture: Acts 16:2334 Main Idea: Paul and Silas behavior led the jailer to faith. Focus for Child: Because of Paul and Silas, the jailer believed in God. Scriptural Foundation: Then he brought them outside and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? They answered, Believe on the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.

15 Acts 16:3031 Session 10: Paul Traveled Scripture: Acts 18:1823 Main Idea: Paul traveled to many places and he told people how to follow Jesus. Focus for Child: Paul traveled to many places. Scriptural Foundation: After spending some time there he departed and went from place to place through the region of Galatia and Phrygia, strengthening all the disciples. Acts 18:23 Session 11: Paul Prays for Others Scripture: Ephesians 1:1516 Main Idea: Paul gave thanks in his prayers for the believers in Ephesus. Focus for Child: Paul prayed for others. Scriptural Foundation: I do not cease to give thanks for you as I remember you in my prayers. Ephesians 1:16 Session 12: Paul Says, You Are the Body of Christ. Scripture: 1 Corinthians 12:1227 Main Idea: Paul encouraged the Corinthians to be one body in Christ. Focus for Child: Everyone is part of the body of Christ. Scriptural Foundation: Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it. 1 Corinthians 12:27 Session 13: Paul Says, Rejoice, Pray, and Give Thanks! Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 5:1618 Main Idea: Paul encouraged the Thessalonians to rejoice, pray, and give thanks. Focus for Child: Rejoice, pray, and give thanks. Scriptural Foundation: Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:1618
