UNIVERSITI TUN HUSSEIN ONN MALAYSIA BWM 21403 MATEMATIK IV GROUP ASSIGNMENT NO.2

Q1

Find the root of f ( x) = e x 2 x that lies in the interval [1, 1.5] by using Bisection method. Iterate until f (ci ) < = 0.005 .

Q2

Dazzling Florist offers three sizes of flower arrangements containing roses, daisies and carnations during Mothers Day. The owner of the florist noted that she used a total of 24 roses, 50 daisies and 48 carnations in filling orders for these three different types of flower arrangement sizes. Table Q2 below represents information regarding the flower arrangements: Table Q2 Arrangement Type Sizes of Flower Rose Daisy Carnation Small Arrangement 1 3 3 Medium Arrangement 2 4 6 Large Arrangement 4 8 6 Total No. Of Flowers 24 50 48

By assuming x1 = number of small arrangement, x2 = number of medium arrangement and x3 = number of large arrangement, the above problem can be formulated as x1 + 2 x2 + 4 x3 = 24 3 x1 + 4 x2 + 8 x3 = 50 3 x1 + 6 x2 + 6 x3 = 48 . Determine the number of different arrangement sizes for each type of flower that Dazzling Florist made during Mothers Day by using Doolittle factorization method.

This assignment is to be submitted on the fifth meeting (15 December 2012)
