Chapter 1
So, You Want to Stop Binge Eating?
You are at that point in your life where you say: OK, its about time I do something about my binge eating disorder. Well, binge Eating Disorder is a family of eating disorder. There are 3 common types: Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa and Binge Eating Disorder (BED)

Anorexia Nervosa

Eating Disorder
Binge Eating Disorder (BED) Bulimia Nervosa

Anorexia Nervosa affects anyone and of any gender, it is characterized by the refusal to eat. This type of eating disorder is found in young women, late teens and early twenties. An anorexic person will often see themselves as being fat when they look at themselves in the mirror even though they appear very skinny to everyone else. People with this disorder often turn to laxatives and various diet aids such as fat burning pills to bring their weight down to dangerous levels. Bulimia Nervosa on the other hand is characterized by bingeing and purging episodes. This occurs when the sufferer believes he/she has consumed more food than normal a sense of lack of control. In extreme cases, it encourages self-induced vomiting and intake of laxatives and drugs to get rid of this eating habit. This is a result of the feeling of guilt for having eaten much. Binge Eating Disorder (BED) is the excessive or abnormal desire for food sometimes described as ox-hunger. Binge eating develops into lack of sense for having no control on eating behaviour. In our society, women are ten times more likely to develop eating disorders that can be life threatening and often do prove to be fatal. In our society, the perceived perfect image of women falls right in line with the slenderness of girls 10 to 12 years old. This unrealistic perception spawned by the supermodels seen today in ads for popular clothing and undergarment makers. This is the reason women become obsessed with their own images. People suffering from BED have increased tremendously in the last 20 30 years its becoming a scourge. More often than not, a sufferer goes through binge eating session even though he realises his health is worsening.

Causes of BED
If you are wondering why you involve in this negative activity, here is your answer. There are two main causes of BED mental health disorders and genetic links. Researchers found out that nearly half of the people suffering from BED have history of depression.

Many report that anxiety, anger, sadness and psychological problems. These are triggers that inform the sufferer to go on another binge eating session. Now, does this ring a bell? Sufferers of this disorder greedily consume food in a huge quantity in an attempt to get rid of their stress and in another to deal with their anxiety feeling. Also, BED is likely to run in different generations of the family, so it is obviously a case having genetic links. BED affects every individual physically as well as with the underlying cause in relation with the reaction of being overweight, self image issues, self consciousness and lack of food control. So, if you are suffering from binge eating disorder, you must seek help because sufferers never admit to the problems they are suffering from and develop tendency to hide this eating habit. Of course, you feel embarrassed telling people that you suffer from BED, but the truth is that this disease can prove to be extremely hazardous effect to your physical health. If the immediate help is not sought, you may begin to have problems such as electrolyte imbalance, esophageal tears, cardiac problems, gastrointestinal disorders, stomach disorders and dental problems.

Chapter 2
Why Do This in the First Place?
Do you... Feel out of control when you eat? Think about food every time? Eat in secret? Eat until you feel numb and sick? Eat to escape from stress, worries and heart break? Feel embarrassed after eating? Feel helpless to stop eating, even when you want to?

If your answers to these questions are more YES than NO, then you are suffering from binge eating. BED is very serious and can disrupt your life plans and even increase your emotional troubles. It stands between you and overall good health. Apart from the obvious consequences like weight gain, you become more prone to illnesses and colds and may also develop more bruising on the surface of skin, and also prone to broken bones from a simple fall. It also leads to social and emotional problems; BED causes depression, anxiety, and even substance abuse. You must be weary of some symptoms associated with binge eating in order to get off its grasp. There are a couple of symptoms associated with BED, if you still cant figure out if you do, here is a pictorial depiction of both emotional and behavioural symptoms of BED. Are you familiar with any of these symptoms?

Behavioural Symptoms

Emotional symptoms

Inability to stop eating or control what youre eating

Feeling stress or tension that is only relieved by eating

Rapidly eating large amounts of food

Embarrassment over how much youre eating

Eating even when youre full

Feeling numb while bingeing

Hiding or stockpiling food to eat later in secret

Never feeling satisfied, no matter how much you eat

Eating normally around others, but gorging when youre alone

Feeling guilty, disgusted, or depressed after overeating

Eating continuously throughout the day, with no planned mealtimes

Desperation to control weight and eating habits

If you are a sufferer of BED, you understand the feelings of loneliness. You know what it is like to live in a secret world that no one knows about. You have a big secret, but no one is allowed to see that side of you. At restaurants with friends, you order just the right amount of food and cant finish it all because you are so full. Little do your friends know that you had already eaten enough food for three people just two hours before meeting them for another dinner? These are the sufferings you keep to yourself almost every time, but the truth is that it doesnt have to be this way. To put everything in perspective, these are the reasons why you want to stop binge eating disorder It is really important to understand these reasons, as if you dont, youll still be involved in this habit and you wont find a way out. Understand that BED is affecting your health and may affect your overall wellbeing. There may be some reasons that are not highlighted in this piece, but I believe you know the gist. Just ask yourself the reason why you do this and you begin to see why you must stop it. Its just an exercise to keep you from going off course. This is an exercise to let you know the importance of ending this dreadful habit. Unlike other addictions, binge eating is difficult to stop because we all need food to survive, meaning that we cant avoid not taking it. That said, you must as a matter of urgency develop a healthy relationship with food. This involves planning balanced meals, going for healthy foods when eating out. Therefore, I want you to pick up a pen, and begin to point out the reason you want to end this habit, if you have not figured this out yet, look at the chart above, it will assist you to see the reasons behind why you need to stop.

Chapter 3
The Solution Lies Within
If you really want to stop your binge eating problem, then you must take yourself responsible. Yes, the solution lies within you. This is not a guess or an assumption but simply the truth. Sometimes in life, we blame all except ourselves for our problems I understand this because it has happened to me. We complain and blame other factors a nagging wife or a non-repentant mum. But once we start to realize that we havent been doing things right, we seek help. If you really dont understand this, think about this: dont you binge when you feel tired or stressed, thereby sabotaging your weight? Dont you go for the refined and fatty foods during these times?

Admit and Seek Help

I'm not here to argue why you are the cause of your binge eating problems, but I want you to see the light at the end of the tunnel. So, Ill ask you follow the exercise with me. I call it the slow-mo technique. It is an effective method that should be used, not only to learn how to stop compulsive eating, but to stop bad habits in other areas of your life as well. The slow-mo technique just requires 4 simple steps. It is a psychological method that requires a great amount of thinking. Since binge eating is more of the way your sub-conscious mind is programmed, the slow-mo technique requires you to reprogram your brain in order to get adequate result. It is displayed as a process so you can understand deeply what each process is all about and how you can pull it off effectively. Spend some minutes with the slow-mo technique diagram below and picture yourself doing the things that are describe therein.

Pick one Session

Hit The Slowmo Button

Probe Yourself

What about Now?

Pick one binge eating session you have had in the past Think deeply about it, it doesn't matter if you have had several sessions, one is enough

Ask yourself: what lead to that particular bingeing Who were you with? What was your emotional state at this point? Were you so emotionally unstable that you thought bingeing was the only way out?

What would you have done that would have reversed the situation? Think, think, think Would Would it have been nice if you told your boss he was stalking you and is making life unconfortable Would be nice if you told your colleague? Think of things you could have done that would have changed the situation

If such an experience that lead you to bingeing were to happen today, what path would you take? Will you still go with the candies or look for a resolute way to resolve the situation? Seek answers from your problem and choose the right path

The first step is about admission; you have been on several bingeing sessions in your life, it is important to admit them. Then pick one to dissect the reasons behind your bingeing. The second step is where you have to revisit this one bingeing session and analyse the cause(s). What really happened before you got started stuffing your mouth with fries? What was your emotional state? These are the questions that you need to provide answers to at this stage. The third step is to reprogram your subconscious; you must think deeply to come out with worthwhile solutions. This is where you need your creativity more. Think, think and think.

The last step is to follow up on the solutions you came up with in step 3 and work on them. If you can pull this off effectively, then you have mastered how to stop compulsive eating during difficult times. Next time a situation like that occur, you won't be going on another eating session but through this newly defined path you have created.

Chapter 4
Success is Not Far Away
Now that we have discussed the slow-mo technique, youll begin to see that to stop binge eating is not that difficult, but need a conscious effort on your part.

Your Friends Are Important

Most times you talk to your friends about why you are overweight. You dont know why, you say. They are just as stumped as you are. They see what you eat and it is small portions. Not even unhealthy foods most of the time. But what they dont know is that you have Binge eating disorder. You have something that is constantly looming over your head food. Food is a dream and a nightmare mixed into one. Food makes you feel better and then makes you feel worthless the very next minute. You dont want to let your friends into your secret world though. This is your world and they will not understand. They may just tell you to stop eating so much. They wont understand. There are many options of treatments a person suffering from binge eating can adopt. It includes medications, psychological treatment and support treatments for inpatient and outpatient. Which type of treatment you want, understand that you must desist from binge and night eating habits. Being alone cannot solve binge eating; instead you need to be in the company of people. You cannot let any self-limiting beliefs stand in your way anymore. Your friends love you and will stand by your side when asked for help. You mean everything to them. The first step to stop binge eating for good is to tell someone that you trust your close friend. Stop dealing with this big problem on your own. Ask a friend to just listen to you when you need them.

Often talking about problems and just getting things off of your chest will make you feel so much better. Plus, if you are hanging out with someone and talking about it, you are less likely to turn to food. It isnt as available and you are not alone. You are forcing yourself out of your comfort zone and that is okay. Get help and find a trusted confidant. Expose your secret world to them little by little, or by however feels right to you. Listen to yourself and let that be the judge. Once they know where you are coming from, they will be able to help you to where you hope to go in the future. Dont let BED get the best of you; seek a friend to talk to and watch you start to feel better about yourself and your situation. If you had the ability to design your life the exact way that you wanted to, would you? If you could create every detail of your life, how would that be? What if I told you that you have this incredible power within you? What if I told you that you could co-create your life to your exact specifications? Would you want to?

Control Your Stress Level

One of the major causes of binge eating is stress; it is one important factor you have to deal with. Therefore, before you can stop emotional eating, you must learn ways to resolve your stress level. Do you bottle your emotions? Would you rather keep quiet and suffer the pains of a bad experience than 'hurt' a relationship? Your friend has just offended you but you think it's better to keep quiet because you want to keep him happy? Please don't do this - it is a dangerous path to thread. This unresolved stress is neither good for your health nor weight. Not only will it be difficult to stop emotional eating, you also stand at risk of being hypertensive; a situation that might cut your life short if unchecked. You need to stop emotional eating because your weight is getting out of hand. But to do this, you must start to learn ways to deal with life problems logically so as to live a fulfilling life. What you think determines how you feel; if you can control your thoughts, you'll be able to control your reactions to stress triggers.

You are old enough to understand that difficult situations happen without much notification; they catch you unaware. You have little or no power over them. But since you don't have this level of control, you can control your response to their effects. It is the meaning you give to them that determines how you feel. By the time you understand how to relate with situations - how to analyse events you would have conquered the urge that tells you to overeat in such circumstances and thereby stop emotional eating. I urge you that each time you are in a stressful condition - a time you are most likely to overeat interpret the situation and act accordingly.

The Power of the Subconscious

Whether you realize it or not, your subconscious mind picks up on all of your positive or negative statements that you say or think about yourself. Think of your subconscious as a sponge. It soaks up tons and tons of information, some of which you are not even aware of. Everything that you come into contact with in your daily life gets absorbed into your subconscious and will stay there forever, as you are not able to filter through what gets to your subconscious mind. You may think questions to yourself such as, Why am I so fat? and your subconscious focuses on the fat part. It doesnt hear the rest of the statement. It focuses on fat and that is what becomes programmed into your mind. Subconsciously you will keep feeding that part of your mind with the word fat being the focus. This is why it is so important that when people use affirmations to end their battle with BED they are careful of what they say and think. By filling your subconscious mind with negative statements about yourself, you will get what you dont want, even though that is not your intention. The subconscious mind accepts any and all information because it does not know any better. This is also why affirmations work so well: Your subconscious cannot distinguish what is real and what is not real.

You must use this to your advantage and when you find yourself thinking a negative thought, it is imperative that you counteract that statement with a positive one immediately. The main purpose of reprogramming your subconscious mind with affirmations is so you can change your current reality. What is it that you want in your life? What do you wish to attract in your life? How do you see your future in terms of binge eating? How bad do you want to stop binge eating? Since your subconscious mind makes up about 90% of your whole mind, can you imagine what can happen to your life by incorporating affirmations daily? Your dreams can start to become your reality. Binge Eating can start to become a thing of your past. Affirmations can help with all areas of your life including: your fears, anxiety, personal development, and improvement with yourself. By adding affirmations to your life, your self-esteem and confidence will grow more than you can ever imagine Or can you? Right now you may be at the lowest point ever because you binge. You are not happy in your life and wish to change. You want a happy ending, but are unsure of how to get there. Even though there are obstacles in overcoming BED, dont let that discourage you. Dont focus on how long it may take. Take each day and live for that day. Focus on not bingeing that day and start positive affirmations. Remember that ending binge eating will come with the help of subconscious change. Notice what will happen to your life and welcome the new you with open arms! They end up eating too much and not realizing that they should not once they are fool. Individuals with BED may gain weight overtime and have obesity problems. However, there are some individuals who have this condition and have normal weight.
