Director, Software Development & Sr. Program Manager 2006 2011 Managed a critical program comprising multiple cross-functional projects to unify disparate legacy identity management processes into a single, modern, enterprise-wide approach. Led a software group that successfully took on other urgent, long-standing challenges in the project backlog, and served as hands-on project manager to ensure successful delivery. Built strong collaboration with global development centers to plan, develop, and roll out products and services on a virtualized Linux cloud platform. Led project team to develop SAML-based federated identity management software as a key component of a strategically important SaaS offering, facilitating single sign-on across all OCLC web apps and services. Improved development process by transitioning engineering teams to Agile Scrum. Coordinated development, configuration, and operations teams to implement a Shibboleth authentication front-end for flagship search service, thereby removing an impediment to migrating large customers from a legacy system. Set up and oversaw ongoing development support for a proxy server used by 1,100+ institutions to support off-site access to licensed information resources. Enabled independent developers to create 40+ new mobile and web applications leveraging enterprise data by managing the Agile development of a high availability, scalable REST web service interface to search engine. Collaborated on design of web service key mechanism to control access. Using Agile methods, led development of an updated standards-based content management system for a complex web site to replace a closed legacy system, increasing the efficiency of editorial processes, enabling continuous synchronization of web content with the master database, and supporting the ability to share data more widely.

Reduced IT expense $1M+ annually by migrating computer operations from an IBM mainframe with proprietary timesharing and database software to an XML database on an open systems platform and DB2, re-implementing all customer-facing applications, and re-engineering the internal applications that interfaced to them..
