Introduction and Welcome
by Artistic Director
I have great pleasure in introducing the 2009 SunWater & Stanwell
Winter Music School, now an annual highlight of the music calendar,
thanks to the enthusiasm engendered by the schools in 2006 and 2008.
I am delighted to welcome secondary school students, who are serious
about playing music and who are keen for a challenge, to an exhilarating
and inspiring week of learning and performing. They will be guided by an
instrumental and vocal faculty that features some of the finest musicians
and teachers in Australia, many of whom hold key positions in tertiary
institutions across the country.
Opportunities include involvement in a full symphony orchestra,
symphonic band, massed choir, stage band, chamber music groups,
and brass, string and percussion ensembles. Students will also
participate in workshops for all instruments, voice and composition.
We sincerely thank our sponsors, SunWater, Stanwell Corporation,
CQUniversity Australia and Arts Queensland. Without their
magnificent support, this extraordinary week of music experience
would not be possible.

All residential students will stay at the Rockhampton Girls Grammar
School, where the week’s workshops and rehearsals will also be held.
Concerts will take place throughout the week at Girls Grammar and
St Paul’s Cathedral, with an extra concert during the week in Emerald.
