WhereIsIt? version 3.

93 Copyright (c) 1997-2008 Robert Galle All Rights Reserved GENERIC TEXT FILE DESCRIPTION PLUGIN ==================================== This module includes two description plugins, capable of capable of automatically importing user-defined text files as descriptions for either parent items (folders) or files themselves during media scan. This feature was in high demand among WhereIsIt users, however it is likely to produce much longer catalog files with importing more or less irrelevant text. Because of that, this plugin is not officially a part of WhereIsIt and is not supported in any way. Use on your own responsibility! INSTALLING THE PLUGIN ===================== Copy the "GenTextPlugin.dll" file in subfolder "Plugins" in WhereIsIt's main folder, for example, "C:\Program Files\WhereIsIt\Plugins". When WhereIsIt is run the next time, it will recognize and include the new plugin module. HOW TO USE IT ============= In order to setup either of the two plugins included in this module, select "Description Settings" option in program's "Settings" menu, select to view available plugins, highlight the "Generic Text File Descriptions" or "Text File Importer" plugin on the list, and click the "Configure" button. This will bring up plugin's own setup dialog. You can define a list of files or file masks to look for when scanning the media, and import them as description for either their parent item (disk, if file is located in root folder, otherwise parent folder), or for the file itself. Files listed are expeted to be text files. Files or file masks listed first have higher priority - for example, if you have listed "*.txt" and "read.me" files to be imported as description, plugins will first look for any .txt file. When using file masks like "*.txt", program will import first found file that matches the mask. For example, to ensure that "Readme.txt" file is always used where more .txt files are available, use priority to specify "Readme.txt" first, and "*.txt" second. LIMITATIONS =========== WhereIsIt descriptions are limited to user defined settings between 4 KB and 32 KB of text - if imported text file is longer, only the first part of file up to the limited site will be used for description. Note that abusing this plugin can make catalog files a lot larger. Even 4 KB of text is a lot, proper and meaningful description should not be longer than a few lines in order not to waste precious catalog file space and burden the program with lots of mostly useless text. For your reference, one single imported description with 32 KB of text takes in catalog as much as about 2000 cataloged files or folders! It is strongly recommended that imported descriptions are edited in order to keep only relevant data for an useable description. HISTORY ======= 2.02 (13. June 2008)
