Introduction to Konkrete Drums

Thanks for purchasing Abstrakt: Konkrete. This is a collection of unique drum kits, with a huge breadth of sounds between them. There are no conventional drums here, neither acoustic nor analogue there are plenty of those sounds on the market already. We wanted to make a set of sounds that you turn to when you need an unusual, original percussive edge to your production, something that makes the listener sit up and take notice. Whether you use Konkrete as your complete drum track, or merely as additional percussive icing, we believe it is an excellent tool in any producers studio. Many of the kits are based around one particular sonic idea, recording process or flavour. The processes and recordings used to generate the individual sounds were highly intensive and often experimental. For this reason, it is often difficult to classify particular sounds into the conventional Kick, Snare, Hat groups. We have, as far as possible, classified low-end percussive sounds as Kicks, mid ranges as snares, and high-end percussion as Hats. Unclassifiable snippets are named Glitches. These are rough guidelines only there are many possible uses and combinations for the drum sounds in the collection. Each Kit contains a selection of kick sounds, a selection of snares etc. This is to give many different expressions and choices when programming a pattern, and means that many different sonic combinations are possible from each individual kit. For this reason there is no standard mapping to our kits, other than each set beginning with the Kicks on C1, moving into Snares and then Hats and percussion. We hope you will find Konkrete a genuinely refreshing collection, and that it will inspire your productions into exciting new areas.

FX Percussion Kits
The following kits are designed as secondary percussion sets; they are not specifically designed for writing complete drum tracks, but for those times when you need stabs, atmospheric hits and extra percussion to accent your existing drums.

7 Charivari Kit A collection of FX hits, both short and long. Add reverb or delay and create interesting accents in your drum patterns. Drills Kit A very particular kit, designed for Drill and Bass type hits, a la Rephlex records. Layer the drills with your snares kicks or hats to create some really cool rolls and glitch slides. They are non-tempo dependant, as the tempo varies across the course of a hit. Drills Kit2 Another drill and bass set. These sounds are also ideal for atmospheric soundscape work, just add delay and reverb. Hamming Kit Unusual percussive effects that push the Hamming effect to its limits. Great unique textures. Kettle Kit Percussive FX Projectiles Kit Very useful effects kit. Slow building, high impact whiz and whoosh sounds to add fireworks to any track. Skimmington Kit Hi tech, sci-fi percussive hits and FX.
