The Daily Politics Internship Program I am seeking undergraduate or graduate student interns to work with me on my New York Daily

News blog, Daily Politics. No pay, but applicants can qualify for academic credit. The ideal candidate: Is an aggressive reporter and focused, vibrant writer who thrives under intense deadline pressure. Has a strong interest in campaigns, elections and government. Candidates familiar with New York City and State politics will have a leg up. Is versed in social media and knows or already has the tech background to quickly learn: The Drupal and ScribbleLive blog platforms, including video/photo/document embedding. The ability to shoot photos and video is a major plus, as are Excel skills. The Daily Politics is one of the leading political blogs in New York. We offer breaking, exclusive and deep-dive government and campaign reporting enhanced by audio, video and live event coverage. The Daily News, with bureaus across NYC and in Albany and Washington, is one of the highest-circulation print papers in the U.S. and has millions of web readers. My interns will generally work alongside our City Hall bureau team, with lots of time in the field covering the 2013 campaigns for mayor and down-ballot offices. Most stories will appear on the blog, with opportunities to appear in print. Full-time applicants are preferred, but those who can commit to work two or more days per week are also welcomed. Apply if you want the chance to: Earn both solo and shared bylines covering a fast-paced (and fascinating) campaign cycle in the worlds most competitive media market; Work closely with experienced, connected reporters to expand your skills in the areas of source-building, records research, one-on-one and scrum interviewing, the writing and editing process, and SEO-focused online news production; Pitch, report and write your own enterprise political stories. Have a GREAT summer -- interning with someone else -- if you: Work for, volunteer with or give to a 2013 NYC candidate or affiliated interest group; Would prefer a buffet-style reporting experience -- this one is politics only; Expect, want or need a 9-to-5 job -- night and weekend work may be required.
Editor Bio: Political Correspondent Celeste Katz joined the Daily News staff in 2000 after beginning her career as a reporter and columnist at The Providence Journal. As a print writer and blogger, she has covered two presidential elections, three NYS gubernatorials and now four NYC mayorals, as well as races for U.S. Senate and Congress. Katz has appeared as a guest on CNN, MSNBC, FOX, CBS and NPR. She graduated from Brown University with a BA in International Relations.
