I got to fy the Ford Tri-Motor
last Friday. Not THE Ford Tri-
Motor, but the fight simulator at
the Liberty Air Museum. I got the
plane up and down safely from
Carl Keller feld to the Put-in-Bay
airport. However, we did a hop
to Kelleys Island and my landing
there wasnt so smooth. As they
say, any landing you walk away
from is a good landing!!! The
simulators, including one for the
P-51 Mustang, will be at the Mu-
seum through this coming week-
end. Check em out!

The Marbletucky Inn, opening this
summer at 189 South Bridge Road,
Marblehead, will be bringing a new
and yet familiar dining and entertain-
ment experience to Ottawa County.
The tradition of island food, wheth-
er on the southern or the northern
coast, is food that makes you feel
good, like you are coming home to
Grandmas house, says manager and
co-owner Kelsey Rider-Bell.
Kelsey and her husband Brian Bell
and Kelseys father Bruce Rider are
the owners and chefs of The Marble-
tucky Inn. I have been cooking with
my dad since I could look on the
stove, and I love it. It is time for him
to retire and we want to do some-
thing together.
Bruce Rider, born and raised on
Catawba Island, is trying to create a
legacy for my daughter. After mili-
tary service, Rider lived in Kentucky,
Puerto Rico and South Carolina be-
fore returning to his native north
coast.
Rider will be the pit-master for the
slow-smoked barbecued pork that
will be the centerpiece of the Marble-
tucky Inns menu. The Carolina-stlye
vinegar-based barbecue sauce melts
the fat from the pork and breaks
down and tenderizes the meat, says
Rider. The custom-built cooker was
set to arrive this past week.
Rider is also a talented musician,
and has already booked several name
groups for the stage that will be the
focal point of the Inn.
Kelsey and Brian, both Danbury
High School graduates, were mar-
ried on the beach on Catawba. Kelsey
has a degree in marketing and man-
agement from Tiffn University and
Brian has a painting business.
The vision of the Inn is to speak to
all the senses, and to showcase every-
ones gifts, those of the musicians,
the cooks, the mural artist and the
purveyors. The sound level for the
blues, bluegrass and rockabilly music
will be such that people can still have
conversations, and all patrons will
have a seat so that they can better en-
joy the music and the food. The food
will be home-cooking and whenever
possible home-grown, using produce
and meats from local providers.
As to the name, The Marbletucky
Inn, It is a name that honors the
roots of this area of Marblehead and
of Kentucky, said Kelsey. We want
to do our part to build up this com-
munity.
The Marbletucky Inn will be open
in June and at least until November,
Thursday through Saturday and half
a day on Sunday, from 11 a.m until
midnight. For more information go
to www.marbletuckyinn.com or fol-
low on facebook.

Easter Egg Saturday
BY DONNA LUEKE
On Saturday morning thousands
of pastel plastic eggs were scattered
over the lawns, parks and grounds
of Ottawa County. By mid-after-
noon, most had been harvested by
treasurer-seeking children.
In Port Clinton at 10 a.m. over 250
basket and bucket toting young-
sters and their entourages fanned
out across the courthouse lawn. In
a matter of minutes, the lawn was
swept clean, and lines gathered for
photos with and additional treats
from the Easter Bunny. As a bo-
nus, the fre truck that brought the
Bunny was available for climbing
on and in. The hunt was sponsored
by the Port Clinton Recreation De-
partment.
By 1 p.m. at James Park in Marble-
head the welcome sun had warmed
the air and earth enough that the egg
hunters there were not encumbered
by heavy coats. The entire park was
strewn with eggs, courtesy of the
Easter Bunny and helpers from the
Marblehead Fire Department. Not
only did the children gather many
treasures, but they had the bonus
of the exercise of running the park
grounds from egg to egg. The Eas-
ter Bunny arrived by fre truck
and posed for photos in the shel-
ter house. Fire-truck climbing was
again a popular event.
At East Harbor at 2 p.m. the Easter
Bunny and helpers from Friends of
East Harbor Park clustered around
the shelter house at the camp-
ground before beginning their egg
hunt. It was observed that the Easter
Bunny was fuzzier at East Harbor.
Perhaps he/she was frazzled from a
hectic day of public appearances.
Galleries from all three Easter egg
hunts are online at thebeacon.net.

On Thursday March 7, the multipur-
pose room of Ottawa County Riverview
Healthcare Campus was flled with staff
and their family members for a special
night of recognition and celebration. Ev-
eryone enjoyed a pig roast with a variety of
salads, desserts, and pulled pork.
The evening began with a presentation
that featured facility-wide honors River-
view achieved in 2012. These honors in-
cluded the highest admission rate in six
years. A total of 290 residents/patients
were admitted in 2012 and 212 of those
admissions (72%) returned back to the
community. The facility also celebrated its
Medicare 5 star rating, which it has main-
tained since January 2010. The facility has
been named on the US News and World
Reports listing of Best Nursing Homes
for 2011, 2012, and 2013. The highlight
of the evening was the announcement of
the 2012 Employee of the Year. The staff
of Riverview votes for the winner of this
honor from the 12 staff having received
Employee of the Month over the year.
Riverview was proud to announce Paul
Harrison (Mainte-
nance) as the Ottawa
County Riverview
Healthcare Campus
2012 Employee of the
Year!
Paul was born in
Germany while his
father was stationed
there in the United
States Air Force. Oth-
er than Germany, he
has lived in Bettsville
almost his entire life.
Paul has three sons,
ages 21, 18, and 16.
Paul has been em-
ployed at Riverview
since July 2011. For
him, the most satis-
fying aspect of work-
ing at Riverview is
helping the residents.
He believes the staff
members are an ex-
tension of their fam-
ily, and in some cases
all they have. Its
very rewarding to me
to help them make
their days easier and
happier. Even if its a
simple good morning

Dr. Joseph Darr of Port Clinton, was among a select
group of doctors of chiropractic from around the world
invited to participate in the 21st Annual Symposium on
Natural Fitness held February 28March 2 in Columbus.
Held annually in conjunction with the Arnold Schwar-
zenegger Sports Festival, this event welcomed hundreds
of doctors of chiropractic, students and friends from
around the world. Sponsored by the Council on Fitness
and Sports Health Science of the International Chiroprac-
tors Association, this event celebrated its 21st Anniversary
this year.
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger again highlighted
the 2013 ICA chiropractic conference with his personal
appearance before the packed Symposium audience. A
strong advocate of chiropractic care for people of all ages,
Governor Schwarzenegger shared his thoughts about the
importance of chiropractic care and his appreciation of its
ability to help people on many levels, stressing the impor-
tance of chiropractic as a signifcant means of preven-
tion and its preventative function as a key component
of all health care programs, both public and private.
Governor Schwarzenegger spoke about his observations
and experiences with chiropractics value from the po-
dium, telling the audience:
I really appreciate the chiropractic profession because
you are out in the community taking care of patients of
all ages, naturally and with great skill. I myself have al-
ways been out there campaigning and talking well about
chiropractic. Weve got to let the people know that there
is a necessity, its not even an option, its a necessity to
have a chiropractor. As much as it is a necessity to have
a dentist, if you have a dentist for the family, you should
have your chiropractor for your family.
Governor Schwarzenegger also spoke about his own
personal experience with chiropractic, recognizing the
care he received throughout the years in relation to
his success in champion-
ship bodybuilding and
for his ability to maintain
such a rigorous public ser-
vice, travel and appearance
schedule. He commented
on developments in health
care, the need to include
prevention and the contri-
butions chiropractic care
makes to that key element
in health care:
Prevention, its all about
prevention. I have seen it
over the years, over the 40
years since Dr. Franco Co-
lumbu, my dear friend be-
came a chiropractor, and
how this has helped our
family, how many times he
has saved the day in our
family. So we know the val-
ue. We talk about it all the
time. Every seminar that
I do about exercising and
training, weight resistance
training, good nutrition, I
talk about the importance
of chiropractic.
Commenting on the im-
portance of including in-
centives for healthy living
and prevention in all health
care programs and linking the chiropractic profession to
the benefts of health and prevention, he noted,
We know it (prevention) works. And we know that you
(chiropractors) are in the right profession. Because you
are really in a profession that saves people money, and it
brings the health care cost down. This is what I love about
your profession. You are the most incredible profession,
you always help people.
This years Symposium program included a special pre-
sentation by Olympic champion and coach for the US
Olympic Water Polo team, Dr. Terry Schroeder, who spoke
eloquently about many aspects of chiropractics clinical
effcacy in enhancing sports performance and managing
injury prevention and injury recovery, and also shared in-
sights about his personal experience with chiropractic and
sports performance.
The ICA Natural Fitness Symposium focuses on the
close relationship between ftness and health, and brings
together the worlds of athletic competition, exercise and
ftness, and chiropractic science to educate all participants
on the value of natural health through exercise.
Dr. Joseph Darr is a 1978 graduate of the National Col-
lege of Chiropractic National University of Health Sci-
ences, where he also served as a teaching assistant in anat-
omy and x-ray. Dr. Darr served as Board President and
Outstanding Alumnus of the Firelands College of Bowl-
ing Green State University. Active in his profession, he is
a member of the American Chiropractic Association and
the Ohio State Chiropractic Association. In practice for
over thirty-fve years, his practice is located at 125 E. Third
Street in Port Clinton.

In 2012, the Danbury Lakers baseball team had a 12- 12
record, 5-7 in the TAAC.
The Lakers lost six seniors to graduation, John Bunce,
Branden Burke, Dalton Chapman, Caleb Helline, Lucas
Kennedy and Cory Schenk. This group left their mark on
the program, being the class with the greatest numbers of
wins (49) over their high school careers.
The top returning lettermen for the Lakers are senior
pitcher Zach Kalinoski, a 3-year letterman, and pitcher/
shortstop sophomore letterman Chase Botson. Promis-
ing underclassmen are sophomores Mike Stys, catcher/
pitcher; Alec Calton, 1st/pitcher; Jack Tyson, 2nd/pitcher;
and freshman Austin Buchanan, shortstop/pitcher.
The Lakers 2013 squad is young but energetic. The
2013 teams strengths include coach-ability & team ca-
maraderie, according to coach Adam Steinbrick. The
Lakers need to learn in a hurry and most of all show con-
tinuous improvement throughout the year.
The projected starting line-up could include as many as
six sophomores and a freshman. Ottawa Hills and North-
wood will be favorites in conference play once again.
In addition to head coach Adam Steinbrick, the Lakers
coaching staff includes Bryan Dudash, Jeff Corbin and
Mike Limberios.

Tri-Motor Sales of Oak Harbor is
among an elite group of Ford and
Lincoln dealerships to be recognized
with the 2012 Presidents Award by
Ford Motor Company. The presti-
gious award honors dealerships that
have excelled in automotive retailing
in 2012 by providing exceptional cus-
tomer service and satisfaction.
Earning this award is a refection
of our entire staff s commitment to
delivering the best customer experi-
ence possible says Tri-Motors owner
David Franck. I couldnt be more
proud to receive this recognition,
especially since it comes from the
people we value most, our custom-
ers. Theyre the reason we were able
to achieve this award.
The Presidents Award was estab-
lished in 1998. Dealers become eli-
gible through survey responses from
customers related to their sales and
service satisfaction.
Tri-Motor Sales has been a recipient
of the Presidents Award fve times
and is a multiple winner of Fords
Distinguished Achievement Award in
their 82-year history. In addition, nu-
merous awards have been won by the
Tri-Motors service department.
In order to achieve the Presidents
Award, dealers must exceed customer
expectations every day in every de-
partment. The pursuit of excellence is
not for the faint of heart. said Mike
OBrien, Regional Manager for Ford
Motor Company.
