Research : Title of Iran Hezbollah Relations Since 1979 Research : Abstract : The success of the Islamic Revolution in Iran that followed the demise of monarchy and exit of Reza Shah Pehlavi in January 1979 became the primary source of inspiration for Islamic activists in West Asia. Irans Islamic Revolution led by Ayatollah Saiyed Ruhollah Moussavi Khomeini inspired, particularly the Shiite Muslim population of countries adjacent to Iran, across the Persian Gulf, and as far as the Mediterranean : Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Lebanon. Yet, Irans revolution had its greatest impact on Lebanon. Despite the fact that Lebanon is not adjacent to Iran, the Lebanese Shiites were the most receptive of all Shiites to Irans revolutionary message. Thus, it emboldened the aspirations of Shiite population and helped them to consolidate against the ongoing Lebanese civil war and Arab-Israel conflict. Therefore, Hezbollah, the radical Shiite Islamist movement was born. Of the many Islamist groups that have emerged within the Muslim world since the early 1980s,perhaps none has had great impact on West Asia and international affairs as Hezbollah----the Party of God. However, the emergence of Lebanese Hezbollah was due not only to the Israeli invasion of 1982 in Sabra and Shattila, the ongoing civil war(1975-1990),the western intervention and, the role of Iran and Syria in Lebanon, but also to the political mobilization of the Shiite community which began in the late 1960s by the charismatic Lebanese-descent Iranian cleric Imam Moussa al Sadr, who was the founder of Harkatul Mahrumin (Movement of Deprived) and Amal (acronym of Afwajal Muqawwamatul Lubnaniyyah). And, Amals adoption of more moderate path and its increasingly constitutionalist policies disenchanted the leaders of the organization had further paved the way for Hezbollahs formation. Iran is Hezbollahs principal military supplier, and in cooperation with Syria, Iran supplied military hardwares over the past several years that were instrumental in Hezbollahs robust military resistance against Israel during the war in summer of 2006.Financially, the U.S. intelligenc has estimated that Iran provides some $ 100 million----and perhaps closer to $ 200 million----annually to Hezbollah. Iran views Hezbollahs consolidation in Lebanon as a great success in the export of the Islamic revolution. Even after the Israels withdrawal from southern Lebanon in 2000, and the Second Lebanon War of 2006, Iran continues to see Lebanon as its frontline against Israel, its arch enemy, and Hezbollah as a key factor in leading the struggle. For this reason, Iran continued to strengthen Hezbollahs military capabilities and consistently supported the continuation of Hezbollah operations along the Israeli-Lebanese borders. The rise to power of radical anti-U.S. President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad in 2005 and the 34-day Israeli offensive reaffirmed the ties regarding the extent of cooperation between Iran and Hezbollah. Indeed, Hezbollah is poised to take on even greater regional significance. Ongoing U.S. difficulties in Iraq, coupled with military advances made by the Iranian regime over the past several years,

would further catalyze a growing wave of anti-American sentiments as a whole. constitutionalist policies disenchanted the leaders of the organization had further paved the way for Hezbollahs formation.
