Assessment
Class list on clipboard, used as an assessment for learning. Check off category. Provide personal feedback if possible for next steps. Plan next lesson according to need. Listening for positive comments. Looking for throwing skills, use whole body, extend arm and release point. Looking for dodging skills, student chooses best direction to dodge.

Prerequisite Knowledge and Skills

I have heard the use of positive comments in class before. We have to be careful not to use putdowns, even when joking. Students should have basic throwing skills from previous years. We can relate the dodging to our unit on volleyball, where students crouched down and moved side to side to meet the ball. This time we are using the same crouch to avoid the ball.

Materials/Safety
What do you need to have on hand throughout the lesson? What safety precautions have you taken? Safety: review OPHEA guidelines -shoes -no shots above the shoulders -no running backwards (side to side, look where you are going) -Check the gym is clear of all objects that could pose hazardous

The Lesson: Est. Time 10m

Before the Learning Activity (Anticipatory Set - Hook)
-Teach Stand By Me routine -Blow whistle, Ask students to stand in large circle around me. Explain that we are going to learn how to do Stand By Me. -Students must remember where they are in relation to the way I am facing. Also, who is standing to their left and their right. Everytime I say Stand By Me students must return to the exact spot around the circle. -We are learning to co-operate here so we should help each other out if we see our classmate in the wrong spot. -Then we will practice Stand By Me 3 times. I turn from 12 oclock to 6 oclock. Then 3 oclock. INTRO to DODGEBALL -Today I am looking for positive comments, encouragement between classmates, no put-downs. -We will be learning two skills today, the first is throwing. -Then dodging -if time permits have students share their strengths and weaknesses with throwing/dodging

And if positive encouragement is going well. Call Stand By Me. Remind students of our goal to use positive encouragement. Give descriptive feedback about throwing. -Call up prior knowledge from volleyball, and how we are moving side to side to get away from the ball.

Use a different size ball if you want more or less challenge
