CABIN LIGHTS - SYSTEM PRESENTATION

GENERAL The cabin light system provides illumination of the cabin and entrances, lavatories, galleys and attendant work areas. The system provides illumination of lavatory lighted signs. There are call lights to indicate the location from which a passenger call is initiated. Individual reading lights are installed. CABIN LIGHTING The cabin lighting consists of four strips of fluorescent lamps. In each cabin zone, the four strips are divided into two pairs for control purposes (inboard pair = CEILING lights and outboard pair = WINDOW lights). Each strip consists of many fluorescent lamps. Each fluorescent lamp is installed in a lampholder with an integral ballast unit. ENTRANCE AREA LIGHTING The entry areas are illuminated by fluorescent lamps installed in ceilling panels. Each fluorescent lamp is installed in a lampholder with an integral ballast unit. LAVATORY LIGHTING Each lavatory lighting consists of a fluorescent lamp. A fluorescent lamp and an integral ballast unit are installed in each lavatory, adjacent to the mirror. PASSENGER READING LIGHTS The reading lights are installed in the Passenger Service Units (PSUs) fitted above the passenger seats. The Passenger Service Unit fitted must agree with the number of seats in a row. LAVATORY LIGHTED SIGNS The lavatory signs indicate the position of the lavatories in the cabin and whether they are occupied or not. A lavatory occupied sign is installed near the FWD lavatory and near the two rear lavatories. ATTENDANT WORK LIGHTS The cabin attendant work lights consist of high intensity lights installed in an overhead panel above the attendant seats.

CABIN LIGHTS - SYSTEM DESCRIPTION/OPERATION

GENERAL The cabin lights are controlled through the CIDS which includes a Forward Attendant Panel, two directors (one active and one in standby) and DEUs. Some DEUs are used for the light system, they are called type "A" DEUs. The Forward Attendant Panel controls the cabin lights. Signals from the Forward Attendant Panel are processed by the directors. The directors transmit these signals to each Decoder Encoder Unit. FWD ATTND PNL = Forward Attendant Panel CIDS = Cabin Intercommunication Data System DEU = Decoder/Encoder Unit CABIN GENERAL LIGHTS The related Decoder/Encoder units control the cabin fluorescent lamps according to the selection on the Forward Attendant Panel. The FWD ATTND PNL controls the DEUs to give: full intensity, 50% intensity or 10% intensity for their corresponding window and/or ceiling lights. ENTRY LIGHTS The related Decoder/Encoder units control the entry fluorescent lamps according to the Forward Attendant Panel selection. The FWD ATTND PNL controls, via the CIDS directors, the DEUs in order to give full, 50% or 10% intensity. NOTE: If the engines are running and the cockpit door is open, the CIDS directors signal the DEU of the left forward entry light to set the intensity to 10%. PASSENGER READING LIGHTS The Forward Attendant Panel controls the activation of the passenger reading lights. The related DEU provides DC control power for individual switching. The passenger reading lights can be tested, via the DEUs, using the Programming and Test Panel. ATTENDANT WORK LIGHTS The Forward Attendant Panel controls the activation of the attendant work lights. Each power unit is connected to a DEU of the CIDS directors for light test activation. The reading lights can be tested, via the DEUs, using the Programming and Test Panel.

CABIN LIGHTS - READING/WORK LIGHT TEST USING PTP

The test of the reading lights includes the test of the Attendant work lights, the decoration lights (option) and the related reading light power unit (each power unit can drive three separate lights). Before activation of the test, the pushbuttons POWER ATTN and POWER READ on the FWD ATTND PNL have to be pressed to energize the reading/work light system. If not, a SWITCH ON POWER message will be displayed on the PTP. The test also detects any bulb failures by checking changes in the current and signaling the failure before the bulb actually burns out.

EMERGENCY LIGHTING SYSTEM - DESCRIPTION/OPERATION BASIC SEAT MOUNTED "AIRSIGNAL" EEPMS

GENERAL The emergency lighting system provides illumination in case of failure of the main lighting system or during emergency conditions. The Emergency Power Supply Units (EPSUs) supply all these different lights. The emergency lights are equipped with 6VDC lamps. ELECTRICAL SUPPLY The Emergency Power Supply Units are supplied with 28VDC from the Essential busbar for operation and 115VAC from the Normal AC busbar voltage sensing. EMERGENCY POWER SUPPLY UNITS The EPSUs supply the following lights: - Exit signs lights, - Cabin emergency lights, - Floor Proximity Emergency Escape Path Marking lights, - Escape slide lights, - Overwing emergency lights, - and escape hatch-handle lights. The EPSUs also monitor the correct voltage of the AC and DC busbars. The Emergency Power Supply Units (EPSUs) convert 28VDC into 6 VDC to operate their associated lights. An internal 6VDC battery in each EPSU is charged continuously when the Essential busbar is energized.

EMERGENCY LIGHTING SYSTEM - DESCRIPTION/OPERATION BASIC SEAT MOUNTED "AIRSIGNAL" EEPMS

OPERATION The EMER EXIT LT switch on the overhead panel controls the Emergency Lighting System. The EMER EXIT LT switch has three positions : OFF, ARM and ON. Each of these positions sends a discrete ground signal to the Emergency Power Supply Units. OFF In the OFF position a ground signal prevents the Emergency Lighting System from being switched on when the AC and DC busbar voltages are not available. The EMER EXIT LT OFF annunciator light comes on. Note : The EXIT SIGNS and the emergency escape hatch-handle lights come on with EMER EXIT LT switch OFF, when the NO SMOKING switch is in ON position or in AUTO position with landing gear extended. ARM In the ARM position the EMER EXIT LT OFF annunciator light goes off. When the 115VAC busbar voltage is not avalaible, the cabin Emergency Lighting and the Floor Proximity Emergency Escape Path Marking lights System come on. The power is supplied from the 28VDC/6VDC converter in the corresponding EPSU. When the 28VDC busbar voltage is not available, the batteries of all EPSUs supply the Emergency Lighting System for at least 12 minutes. The batteries are no longer charged. ON In the ON position the Emergency Lighting System comes on, as if the LIGHT EMER pushbutton on the Forward Attendant Panel was pushed. The cabin emergency lights, the exit signs, the escape hatch-handle lights and the floor proximity lights come on. The 28VDC/6VDC converters of the EPSUs supply these loads as long as the 28VDC Essential busbar is available. If the 28VDC busbar voltage falls below 16V, the EPSUs internal batteries continue to supply the loads for at least 12 minutes. The batteries are no longer charged. OTHER CASES Independently of the switch positions, the integral lights in the respective escape slides come on when the passenger/crew doors or the emergency exit doors are opened with the escape slides armed. In the event of excessive cabin depressurization, the exit marking signs and the exit location signs automatically come on. TEST The EPSUs have a test circuit which tests the condition of the battery unit, the logic unit and the related loads. This test is first performed from the Programming and Test Panel, but if the BAT OK or SYS OK annunciator light does not come on, an isolated test must be performed with the pushbutton located on each EPSU.

EMERGENCY LIGHTING SYSTEM - DESCRIPTION/OPERATION ALTERNATE FLOOR MOUNTED "L.S.I" EEPMS

GENERAL The Emergency Lighting System provides illumination in case of failure of the Main Lighting System or during Emergency conditions. The Emergency Lighting System consists of : - Emergency Power Supply Units (EPSUs), - 6VDC cabin emergency lights, - 6VDC exit marking signs, - 6VDC exit location signs, - 6VDC escape slide lights, - Power Supply Units, - 115VAC luminescent light strips, - 115VAC wall-mounted exit marking signs, - 28VDC lavatory auxiliary lights. ELECTRICAL SUPPLY The Emergency Power Supply Units are supplied with 115VAC normal busbar and 28VDC Essential busbar. The Power Supply Units are supplied with 28VDC Essential busbar. EMERGENCY POWER SUPPLY UNITS The Emergency Lighting System is equipped with two types of Power Supply Units. Emergency Power Supply Units supply cabin emergency lights, escape slide lights, and exit marking & exit location signs. They also monitor the correct voltage of the AC and DC busbars. The Emergency Power Supply Units (EPSUs) convert 28VDC into 6VDC to operate their associated lights. An internal 6VDC battery in each EPSU is charged continuously when the Essential busbar is energized. The other type of Power Supply Units supply the floor-proximity emergency escape path marking (FPEEPMS) lights and the wall-mounted exit marking signs. It also monitors the correct voltage of the DC busbar. The Power Supply Units convert 28VDC into 9.6VDC, and invert 9.6VDC into 115VAC to operate their associated lights. An internal 9.6VDC battery in each PSU is charged continuously when the Essential busbar is energized.

BATTERY CAPACITY TEST USING PTP Before activating a test, it is necessary to set the NO SMOKING and the EMERGENCY LIGHTING switches to the OFF position. The battery capacity test indicates the battery capacity condition of the Emergency Power Supply Units 10WL thru 15WL. To prevent unauthorized access it is necessary to enter a code for the battery test. The duration of the test will be up to two hours. During the test, it is possible to use the PTP for other functions. When the test is activated the BAT light in the BAT key comes on. An internal time count is started in the CIDS DIRECTOR. If the test is OK, the BAT OK light beside the BAT key comes on. If there is a failure message on the PTP and if annunciator light does not come on, you have to test each EPSU with their individual test button. When the BAT TEST RESET has been selected, the BAT OK light and the BAT key light go off. In case of a failure, the respective result will be written into directors GND SCAN memory.
