Message from our Vicar

Pope Francis
On Wednesday, March 13, 2013, after two days of voting, with a pu of white smoke shooting through the chimney of the Sistine Chapel, it was announced to the world that we have a new Ponti . By now, we all know the name of our 266th Ponti , Jorge Mario Bergoglio, who will go by the name of Pope Francis, the son of Italian immigrants, born in the South American country of Argentina. He is also the rst non-European pope in more than 1,200 years and the rst member of the Jesuit order to lead the church that belongs to 1.2 billion Catholics. But, who is he? We now have learned through many social media hubs, that he is a simple and humble man, a strong advocate for the poor, who chose to live in a small, modest apartment instead of the archbishop's palace, and used public transportation instead of traveling by a chau eured limousine. He even cooked his own meals. We also know that the pope is a traditionalist when it comes to the churchs stand on certain issues, with a strong vision as a leader, he is a pro-life activist and a strong opponent of homosexuality. Despite all the facts we know about our new Ponti , one thing is for sure, and that is that there is a real excitement not only within the catholic community, but also around the world, that came with the election of this now infamous man. Perhaps Pope Francis will bring a breath of fresh air to the Vatican since he is already doing things quite di erently, from taking the bus back to his hotel room, to cleaning and paying his own bill at the hotel. Some say it will reignite Catholics passion for the church and bring them back to Mass. One thing we know for sure is that he wants a church that renews itself even as it remains anchored to the Gospel. We congratulate you, we pray for you and we love you, Dear Papa! May God Bless You! Long Live Pope Francis I!

Passion Play
On Sunday, March 10th, the School of Religious Education brought to us a Passion Play, which depicted the passion, death and resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ. It was presented to us by a Polish troupe called Swieta Cecylia (Saint Cecilia) and had over 80 actors who travel around the country proclaiming the life and death of Jesus through their acting. The troupe had the packed audience's undivided attention from beginning to end, as the audiences eyes were glued to the stage from the moment the performance began with all the actors coming together proclaiming, Jesus is coming! A tear or two were shed from the eyes of many of our parishioners as they watched a humiliated, wounded, bloodied and dying Jesus nally hung on the cross and cruci ed during the nal scene. The backdrop, stage props and dim lighting added an even more dramatic touch to the gripping performance. This was the rst time that our parish invited an outside troupe to present a Passion play to us. It was a heartfelt and moving play, and we sincerely thank the actors of Swieta Cecylia for accepting our invitation to perform at our parish. Here are some pictures that give a miniscule glimpse of this wonderful play.
