FUEL MANAGEMENT GAUGE
(Input for MPG from GPS or Multifunction
Speedometer)
The fuel management gauge can receive data
from either a GPS or the multifunction speedome-
tet. It cannot be hooked to both. This option has
been available since 1998. The same signal lead
part #6Y5-87122-S0-00 is used for either applica-
tion. If you are using input from the multifunction,
speedometer no modification is required to the
lead. Ifyou are using the GPS for the input signal,
modification will be required which is explained
below.

Modification Procedure
1. Cut off three prong connector.
Remove the black plug and install it on the
speedometer to plug the hole in the back of
the gauge.
The white wire isthe signal lead which needs
to be connected to the NMEA 0183 output
lead of the GPS unit.
NOTE: All GPS units utilize different hamesses,
terminals and color codes on the output signal.
Always connect the white wire to whatever the
GPS manufacturer recommends. Do Not Use Red
and Black wires.
‘Try and keep the wire length to a minimum. Long
lengths could affect the operation of the system.
If the cable length needs extending, use coaxial
cable.

Installation
Gauge Location
Pick a location in the dash for the fuel manage-
ment gauge. Make sure the gauge will not be
more than 10 inches from the speedometer if the
speedometer will be used for MPG calculation. A
sample gauge layout is illustrated.
Fuel Management Gauge
For each gauge:
1. Cut a 3-3/8 inch diameter hole in the dash
panel. A paper pattem is printed on this page.
In order for the Miles-per-gallon function of this
system to operate, it is necessary to connect the 4-
pin round connector of the management gauge to
‘the receiving connector of the new style multi-
function speedometer or GPS. They must be con-
nected to the same power source. The maximum
reach of these connector hamesses combined is
10 inches when speedo is used. No extensions
should be used, or the gauge can malfunction
because of electronic interference from radios or
other devices.
Gauge Installation
Install the instruments in the dashboard. If no
dashboard is available, install them in a place pro-
tected from water spray.
Disconnect the battery leads before installing
or disconnecting electrical components.
Otherwise, you could be shocked or an electri-
cal short could cause a fire.

2. Connect the wiring hamess to the meter
through the hole.
3. Attach the fitting plate to the meter, then
