The daily working hours shall be so regulated that no worker shall work for more than five successive hours without breaks - for rest, meals and prayer - amounting in aggregate to not less than one hours. Each employer shall provide appropriate safety measures to protect workers against the hazards of occupational injuries and diseases that may occur during the work, and also against fire and other hazards that may result from the use of machines and other work tools.

Every employer shall display in conspicuous position at the workplace detailed instructions indicating the measures to be taken to prevent fire and protect the workers against hazards to which they may be exposed while performing their work. Such instructions shall be in Arabic and in other language understood by the worker. There shall be one first aid box for every 100 workers; the box shall be located in a conspicuous place, within the easy reach of the workers and shall be controlled by a person specialised in administering first aid. An employer shall ensure each workplace is perfectly clean, ventilated and provided with adequate lighting, drinking water and toilets. An employer shall arrange for one or more medical practitioners to carry out general medical examination, at regular intervals of not more than six months, on those of his workers who are exposed to any occupational diseases. The medical practitioner shall immediately inform the employer and labour department of cases of occupational diseases occurring among workers. An employer shall provide his workers with medical care facilities up to the standards laid down by the MOL in conjunction with MOH.

The employer or his representative shall inform each worker, upon recruitment, of the occupational hazards involved and the protective measures he must take, and shall post detailed written instructions in this respect at the workplaces. Bringing or allowing anyone else to bring any kind of alcoholic beverages into workplace for consumption therein or to allow any person in a state of drunkenness to enter or remain on the premises.

Each employer employing workers in areas remote from towns and not covered by regular means of transport shall provide workers with; (a) suitable means of transport, (b) suitable living accommodation, drinking water, (d) adequate food supplies, (e) first-aid facilities and (f) recreation and sports facilities Reporting of any work-related injuries and occupational diseases. Briefing of employees about labour hazards before giving them assignments, such as dangers of fire, machines, falling, occupational diseases. Appointment of qualified first aiders and availability of first aid boxes (minimum content of first aid boxes as required). Space occupied by each person shall not be less than 400 cubic ft. on condition that any height exceeding fourteen feet shall not be counted. Provision of adequate fresh air, ventilation and avoidance of bad or harmful exhaust fumes, changes in temperature or excessive humidity. Provision of sufficient and suitable light. Protection of employees from being in direct contact with harmful material and avoid leakage of gas vapour, dust, soil fibres or fumes into the atmosphere or the workplace. Barring of dangerous radiation from employees Prompt elimination of harmful dust, vapours, gases or fibres at or near its source by means of extraction or suitable mechanical means or providing suitable ventilation system. Provide employees with PPE including training on its use, storage, maintenance and cleaning. Floors in the working rooms shall be level and suitable for the work done. Adequate space around machines to allow access, cleaning, repair, etc. Passages shall be kept clear and should have no pits or uncovered manholes or protruding nails or pipes, upright valves Stairways, walking tracks and similar places shall be furnished with non-slippery material. Stairways shall be fitted with handrails and bars to prevent personnel falling or metal sheets to prevent objects falling on to people below Ladders shall be strongly constructed with steps of suitable dimensions, with the top and bottom secured as to prevent slipping. Wooden ladders shall not be painted. Sufficient ways in, ways out and stairways in the place of work to enable employees in the event of a fire in any part of the building to evaluate quickly and safely without congestion. Suitable means and devices for extinguishing fire shall be provided and maintained in good condition, readily available and free from obstruction. Sufficient number of employees shall be trained in their use. Identify the risk associated with the activities of the organisation and document in the EHS Risk Register, evaluate the level of significance of the risk, reduce the risk at an AUH EHSMS Manual Vol. 1 Framework Codes of Practice acceptable and 'ALARP' risk level via means of prevention, mitigation or recovering Section 3.2 All designated entities implementing Abu Dhabi EHSMS framework will be required to allow external audit of their EHSMS. To enhance coordination and communication during emergencies, facilities should be established and equip an emergency control center. For small sized facilities (e.g. with several members of staff) with low risk levels of hazards, an emergency control center may not be required. Monitoring and reporting on EHSMS performance is a requirement under Abu Dhabi Emirate Environmental, Health and Safety Protection Policy. The entity shall prepare two forms of reporting on EHSMS performance, (a) internal reporting and (b) external AUH EHSMS Manual Vol. 1 Framework Codes of Practice reporting to the Sector Regulatory Authority and/or the Competent Authority Section 6.2 (a,b) Industries that are identified as posing a noise risk to the community or the environment need to monitor their noise levels as part of their permit conditions. Employers are required to report to the Competent Authority and the Regulatory Authority on occupational and environmental health and safety incidents after becoming aware that an incident occurred. The employer is also required to report occupational and environmental health and safety risks that may endanger the health and safety of workers to the competent authority.
