Have you been awarded any conservation prize in the past? If so, which?

No I havent received any conservation prize.

Performance by Candidate Why should you / the candidate receive the Future for Nature Award? Describe previous and current work and achievements regarding species protection. (maximum 300 words) Please look at selection criteria at http://www.futurefornature.net/applicationcriteria or at the end of this application form. I have very deep interest in amphibian conservation. When I first learned about SAVE THE FROGS campaign in USA then I thought the time has come to think about these little creatures. I started raising awareness about frog conservation in my college. Real work started when my proposal was accepted by Open Society Institute ,USA and I received YOUTH ACTION FUND to work for amphibian conservation in Far-Western region (least developed region with very low literacy rate in Nepal). Then I conducted multimedia classes in many schools in Kailali district to make school students aware of amphibian conservation. Then to provide sustainability to my work I started forming student groups in the school. They were named as BIODIVERSITY ACTION CIRCLE and have been doing good job at their school till now. I organized a grand interschool essay and art competition to mark environment day of 2011. The topics of both event were related to amphibian conservation. I collected signatures of hundreds of people from different background to make them aware about amphibian conservation. It was one year project and with a small budget it was able to make a large number of people aware about amphibian conservation. I used call newspaper and FM Radio reporters in all the events. So, amphibian conservation issues got good media coverage in Kailali district thus making people to think about their conservation. Similarly, I was co-ordinator of BIODIVERSIY INITIATIVE GROUP funded by SAVE THE FROGS, USA. We conducted amphibian conservation awareness marathon, documentary shows, art and essay competitions like programs to celebrate SAVE THE FROGS DAY 2011.

Project description Describe the species protection project for which the prize amount of 50.000 will be used for, in case you / the candidate become(s) one of the three Future for Nature winners. (maximum 300 words).

Dissection in biology lab is posing threat to amphibians. In Nepal thousands of frogs are dissected in labs every year. And most of the colleges collect frog from nearby jungle or pond without caring whether the specific frog they are catching is endangered or not. The only genuine solution to this problem is the virtual learning. By using computer software student can learn more about frog biology than by killing them. So, I want to use the prize amount to conduct NO DISSECTION campaign in colleges of Nepal. I want to stimulate all the colleges to use computer based learning rather than killing frogs in the lab.
