Introduction There is a vast amount of water in the world and it covers almost three fourths of the earths surface.

It is the most common substance on earth and most important. All living things depend on it. But the earths water supply is not evenly distributed. Most water is inaccessible. Only in a small fraction is directly accessible to man and much of it is unsuitable for human consumption. Thereby in same places, peoples demand for water exceeds the supply. Because of this, every year there are water shortages in various places. Water as a precious commodity has become even scarcer through environmental influences such as desertification, soil erosion and falling ground water levels. It is ironic that, in spite of the big strides made by man in the field of science, clean water resources have become increasingly scanty. Agricultural wastes and industrial effluents now go into the river and streams. Chemical fertilizers, pesticides and other wastes filter down to water tables. Rainwater is polluted with factory and vehicle emissions while water systems have become unreliable. However, people have begun to work solving these water problems. In many places, people draw their directly from deep wells, some households to ensure safety, have resorted to boiling water and others have turned to using filters. On the other hand, mineral water derived from springs is now made available in bottles and have become prevalent in the market today. Lack of potable water is perennial problem plaguing not only urban residents but also a rural population. Aside from taps without water, there is also an increase of cases of water borne diseases such as cholera, typhoid fever and dysentery. These problems do not only stunt the growth and development of communities and industry but also wreak havoc on human health. Thus, the welfare of the people lies primarily in drinking water. Although water bounds in the province of Quirino, provision of potable water still leaves much to be desired particularly in the upland communities The mountainous barangay of Gulac, Diffun Quirino which is about twenty minutes to travel from the town proper. The area used pumping well which is the one under investigation. This pumping well is very accessible to the people in the community for it is strategically located at the side of the barangay hall. Residents in this community depend primarily on this pumping well for their domestic water supply although its potability is doubtful. Until this study was conducted, had there been any analysis done on the water from the pumping well.

Theoretical Framework This study included the determination of the Chemical and bacteriology properties of water used by the resident from the Barangay Gulac Diffun Quirino. The result of the analyses on sample will show the different problems that will arise in the community. The sample will randomly categories to ; a. Pump well b. Mineral water (sold on Gulac)

Statement of the problem This study deals with the Microbial analysis in water from Gulac, Diffun, Quirino. Specifically it has the following objectives: 1. To determine if there is contamination of water in the said Barangay. 2. To examine microbial degradation by the selected water pump in the said Barangay and to collect samples using a scanning in a microscope. 3. To characterize and identify the organisms those are present in the water sample. 4. To know the effect of these organisms that is present in the water in every People of Gulac Diffun Quirino.

Scope and delimitation of the study This study was conducted to determine the extent of potability of water in the community. The pumping well that is under investigation is located at the side of the Barangay hall of the said community. This undertaking was delimited to the following: 1. Determination of Chemical properties of the water of the pumping well such as; Ph Alkalinity Cattions Anions 2. Determination of the presence of bacteria of the water such as; E.coli Bacterium vibrio cholera Salmonella typhi

Significance of the Study The provision of adequate and quality community water supply and the protection of public health through the control of potential water-borne disease is an important contribution to national progress. The prospect of providing the People in Gulac Diffun Quirino with the necessary information regarding the extent of potability of water in their community would help alleviate problems on their water system. It was for this reason that this study was conducted. We hope that the people who are using the water in the community would become aware on the extent of its purity for their healthful living. Furthermore, the findings of this study will be presented to the community of Barangay Gulac Diffun Quirino, so that the people of this community will be aware of their water resources .
