Appendix B Testing
The released executables have been subjected to a regression test covering those aspects affected by this release. No problems have been found.
The installation should be scheduled to take place at such time that the outage will result in minimum disruption to traffic, and when support will be available from HNS. The saveset must be loaded, following instructions in the Customer Release Configuration Guide (A4-SCG-3076-1). In summary the installation steps to be performed, unless specifically excluded in the comments column, are: For the new automated installation procedure to function smoothly it is important not to log into the first newly installed BAP until the correct stage ( see Installation Instructions below). Review Sections 11 through 14 at this point.

PREPARATION Copy the SAD_PROTECT_FILES.DAT file to [BAPSW.REL801x.SAD.EXECUTE], where x represents the highest (current) release. Insert tape Extract the PROJINSTALL.SAV save set. Protect the following extra-ordinary files which are not covered by the automated process: Archive the Online Database. Dump the Online Database. Generate the following POP files that may be needed in case of fallback: INSTALL FIRST SOC Stop and deinstall one SOC. Install the new software on the SOC. (Including 'Projinstall.Sav')
Comments
Only required if this file does not exist here already as a result of a previous release, or has been updated by HNS. Re-insert tape ready for BAP installation None required in this release
First determine if the logical SOC$REL_DISK is defined in terms of LES$DISK0, or a disk name Not 4.2.3.1, 4.2.3.2 Use the SOC$REL_DISK translation when prompted for the installation disk
INSTALL FIRST BAP (NON REDUNDANT) 10. 7 11. 4.1.1 4.1.2 Stop and deinstall the Standby BAP. Install the new software on the stopped BAP (this includes the first pass FEP install). With the tape already inserted, the installation procedure should offer correct default locations and file names. Reply 'N' to the change FEP load file question. No standby now Not 4.1.2.1 All defaults should be accepted, unless stated below or are known to be wrong, in which case, supply the correct information Do NOT manually delete the [BAPSW.REL] files Enter N when asked if each FEP should be triggered When asked if the INSTALLFEP.COM file should be run, ONLY accept the default (N) if the 'old' BAP is to remain Master for any appreciable time following this installation and re-starting this BAP, otherwise IGNORE this default and enter Y Before logging in, ensure that both Email PCs (where applicable) have BAPA and BAPB definitions pointing to the BAP NOT affected. Remember to restore once installation completed. When starting the BAP for the first time, observe all start-up messages check for errors which may scroll off.
This completes the installation and the BAP may be re-booted as prompted

Action
OUTAGE Start of installation outage - stop current master Optionally perform DBCC on the Online Database. Log on via BAPSYS on upgraded BAP and carry out 'Additional post installation actions' Do not recreate SOI files when asked No 'protected' files have been updated in this release, so choose the options to replace the protected files - overwriting the released files This should be detected as a 'first pass'. The node name of the other BAP will be displayed and its installation disk found. The option to rename the FEP load files on that disk will be offered. Assuming that there is no reason for delay, proceed and rename those files Reply 'Y' to the request to trigger FEPs (see 4.1.4.1/4.1.4.3 for description)
Comments
Customer must trade off longer outage (+~30 mins.) against added security). (Automated sequence) The original protected SOI files containing the workstation set up will be restored next. (See 4.1.5.2). However, if local changes have been made to SAD_PROTECT_FILES.COM, then this should be replaced.
IF and ONLY if the option to run the INSTALLFEP.COM file was not exercised (i.e. there has been a delay) then answer N. Immediately after this installation utility has completed, the this installation file should be run, followed by the re-trigger COM file displayed at this time.
An online database update is now required, reply to the questions as indicated in the comments: If the online database has not yet been started on this node, then this will be done now Perform online database conversion for: Options 39 to 46 If no other actions outstanding, then: Start newly upgraded BAP and SOC.
Is installation complete AND no database upgrade required Y/N [Y] N Is installation complete AND a database upgrade IS required Y/N [Y] Do you need to upgrade the ONLINE database now Y/N [Y]
Once ONDB has started, reply again to the question Do you need to upgrade the ONLINE database now Y/N [Y]
This is likely to take approximately 30-60 seconds per step - see 7.2.3. End of outage Before logging in, ensure that both Email PCs (where applicable) have BAPA and BAPB definitions pointing to the BAP NOT affected. Remember to restore once installation completed. When starting the BAP for the first time, observe all start-up messages check for errors which may scroll off.
15. 17
CHECK SYSTEM 16. 18 4.1.5 (10) Ensure system functions correctly (do not move on until agreed that there will be no fall back). Tests required by Appendix B of these release notes are the OSAT tests

Install the second BAP (this includes the second pass FEP install). No 'protected' files have been updated in this release, so choose the options to replace the protected files overwriting the released files Reply 'Y' to the change FEP load file question as new question requests the entry of the VAX type, enter the appropriate number as prompted. None required in this release
Not 4.1.2.1 (See 4.1.5.2). However, if local changes have been made to SAD_PROTECT_FILES.COM, then this should be replaced. FEP load files will need updating for this installation. The FEP load file type will be required Enter N when asked if each FEP should be triggered When asked if the INSTALLFEP.COM file should be run, enter Y
