nglish Teaching : Lesson Plan TIME : 50 MINUTES GRADE: VI TEXTBOOK : SNAPSHOT ELEMENTARY TOPIC: PAST SIMPLE OF "TO BE"

; SKILLS: reading, speaking, writing LANGUAGE FOCUS: WAS / WERE; OPPOSITE ADJECTIVES LESSON AIMS : by the end of the lesson the students will be able to: 1. use the past structures of to be: was / were 2. answer the questions using short answers 3. give the antonyms for some adjectives AIDS : textbook, coloured chalk, worksheets, blackboard, pictures (drawings) WARMING UP : Teacher asks the students on duty to tell the absentees and writes them in the catalogue; then teacher checks the homework and the students correct their mistakes , if necessary . Teacher asks the students about how are they feeling ACTIVITY 1 : AIMS : to introduce the students into the new topic, introduce new structure,to create expectations. INTERACTION : T S PROCEDURES ; Teacher asks students if they remember the present forms of the verb to be. Then she writes on the blackboard the past structures using different coloured chalk to distinguish was from were. Teacher writes the forms for positive statements, question forms and negative statements. After that the teacher asks the students some questions like: Was Adelina at school yesterday?, Were you lazy last year ?, Was the weather cold last week? and asks the students to give short answers . ACTIVITY 2 : AIMS : to develop reading skills,answer questions about the text . INTERACTION : S S / T- S PROCEDURES : T asks the students to open their books and read a short dialogue on roles. Then T asks questions to check the comprehension of the text . She asks students to give examples of past tense (was,were,wasnt,werent) from the text .

ACTIVITY 3 AIMS: to find the differences between is/was and are/were using present and past time adverbials like : now - then , this year last year, today yesterday. INTERACTION : Group work / whole class PROCEDURES : T gives a picture to each group and asks the students to write two sentences using the present structures of to be and the past structures that they have already learnt. Students write the sentences in their notebooks and then teacher asks them to read the sentences. T asks which is in the present, which is in the past. T explains any language or vocabulary difficulties . T gives the students some worksheets and asks them to fill in the gaps with the missing forms of the verb to be in the present or past . T asks the students to read the completed examples from the sheet of paper . ACTIVITY 4 : AIMS : to practice the new structures and find out in the sentences written, the opposite adjectives. INTERACTION : T S PROCEDURES : T asks the students to underline the opposite adjectives in their sentences and give examples of others. HOMEWORK T gives a short exercise for students to give short answers (ex.3 page 47)
