Application for Admission 1. Application Qualification If the applicant fits one of the followings, he / she is entitled to apply as an international student: (1) International students refer to those whose nationality are not and never been Republic of China (Refer to Note 1) and those do not possess overseas compatriot status eligible to apply. (2) International students refer to those whose nationality are not Republic of China, those who must reside in another country for more than 6 years (Refer to Note 2-3), and those who meet the following conditions. a Have dual nationality and have never applied for household registration in Taiwan.. b Once held the nationality of Republic of China and renounced it for less than 8 years (till the date school begins). c Possess overseas Compatriot student status or had previously applied colleges/universities with this status in Taiwan. (3) According to the Education Cooperation Framework Agreement, a foreign national who was selected by a foreign government, organization, or school, and does not hold a household registration from the time of their birth is not subject to the limitations as prescribed in the preceding 2 paragraphs after receiving the approval from the authorized educational government agencies. (4) If you have dual nationality and applied to revoke your Republic of China nationality for more than or equal to 8 years from the date of February 1st 2011 then you are eligible to apply as an international student. (5) International students who have not graduated from a Taiwan High School may apply (Overseas Compatriot high schools and Taiwan affiliated high schools that consist of dual languages are eligible, thus, the initial comment does not apply). (6) Have never been dismissed from any Taiwan institutes due to poor moral conduct, poor academic standing, or committed any crimes. (7) An applicant of foreign nationality, concurrently holding a permanent residence status in Hong Kong or Macao, having no history of a household registration record in Taiwan and, at the time of application, has resided in Hong Kong, Macao, or another foreign country for no less than 6 years is qualified to apply for admission under these regulations.

Any applicants after review violate any of the mentioned above will lose their student status and
will not receive any official degree from First Tech. Note: *1. According to Article 2, the Law of Nationality of Republic of China, a person shall have the nationality of the Republic of China under any of the conditions provided by the following subparagraphs: (a) His/Her father or mother was a national of the Republic of China when he/she was born (b) He/She was born after the death of his/her father or mother, and his/her father or mother was a national of the Republic of China at the time of death (c) He/She was born in the territory of the Republic of China, and his/her parents can't be ascertained or both were stateless persons. (d) He/She has undergone the nationalization process. Preceding subparagraph 1 and subparagraph 2 shall also apply to the persons who were minors at the time of the revision and promulgation of this Act. *2.The ending date of the 6 year and 8 year time periods are counted until August 1st 2013. *3. Overseas excludes Mainland China, Macao and Hong Kong; during the 6 year time period you are not allowed to stay in Taiwan for more than 120 days during any single calendar year.

2. International students with a high school diploma are eligible to apply for four-year undergraduate programs; students with a bachelors degree are eligible to apply for graduate study in Masters programs; students with a Masters degree are eligible to apply for graduate study in Ph.D. programs at First Tech. 3. If the applicants HIV test result is positive, First Tech will notify the government authorities according to HIV Infection Control and Patient Rights Protection Act. 4. There is no application fee for international students. However, applicants are required to submit the completed application forms with required documents to the Office of Research and Development of FIRST TECH before April 30, 2013. Those who pass the due date will not be considered for admission for the fall semester 2013. (The application forms can also be downloaded from the following website: http://www.ord.nkfust.edu.tw/english/Download.aspx?n=5) All of the following items should be submitted at the same time as your application packet.

(1) Two completed application forms (2) Photocopied Certificate of Nationality (passport, residence certificate or birth certificate). (3) Academic credentials: a. Academic credentials from Mainland China: The Regulations Governing the Accreditation of Schools in Mainland China shall apply. b. Academic credentials from Hong Kong or Macao: Academic Credential Verification and Accreditation Methods adopted in Hong Kong and Macao shall apply. c. Academic credentials from other areas: (a) Photocopied Certificate of Current Highest-Level Diploma and Original Transcript (A copy of Chinese or English translation shall be submitted if in a language other than Chinese or English). Must be authenticated by the ROC embassy, consulate office, or Taipei Economic & Culture Office of the country in which the student resides (Refer to Note 4). (b) Graduating students without appropriate diploma certificates before admission should provide their official diploma certificates for verification once they are enrolled in school after admission. Undergraduate study; provide High School Diploma, Graduate study; provide Bachelors Degree, Doctorate study; provide graduate degree. (c) Once admitted, upon registration provide authentic document of diploma for review. (d) Translated Certificated of Diploma MUST be authenticated by the school from which students graduated and by the ROC embassy, consulate office, or Taipei Economic & Culture Office of the country in which the student resides. NOTE: *4. ROC representative offices abroad stands for ROC embassies, consulates, representative offices, trade offices, or other agencies authorized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of ROC d.Two Official Transcript (a) Must be authenticated by the school from which students graduated and by the ROC embassy, consulate office, or Taipei Economic & Culture Office of the country in which the student resides. In addition, the transcript must be sealed by the institute issuing the transcript. (b) Applicants for Ph.D. programs should provide undergraduate transcripts in addition. e. One financial statement issued by a bank. (a) Students must provide a bank statement showing the amount of at least NT$ 200,000 (USD$ 7,000) deposit. (b) Students with supports from funding agency must provide relevant document of

proof. (c) If the account name stated in the bank statement is not the applicant himself/herself, a letter of declaration written by this particular sponsor is required. In the letter, the sponsor has to state his/her relationship with the applicant, as well as making an assurance to support the applicant for all his/her expenses while studying in Taiwan. f. Certificate of Nationality Renouncement of Republic of China is required for applicants once holding the nationality of Republic of China. Must be longer than 8 years till the date school begins. g.Other materials required by specific departments/institutes. * Incomplete application packets will not be considered! h. Degree Programs Open for International Students This table indicates the number of international students that may be admitted and the admission criteria for each department and graduate institute (Fall, 2013). *For more information, please contact the relevant institutes or departments Tel: +886-7-6011000 + extension number 1 + 4 + 1 Program International students who have no or little command of Chinese and plan to pursue both bachelor and master degrees at FIRST TECH can apply to this newly developed program. In the first year, international students are required to take Mandarin Chinese language courses offered by the First Tech specially designed for those who have no or limited Chinese language proficiency. Additionally, they are allowed to take one or two degree courses instructed in which they are interested. In the next four years, they will take degree courses instructed in Chinese with local students in the field where they choose to major, while taking intermediate and advanced Chinese language courses at the same time. They are expected to complete all required credits for a bachelor degree (minimum 128 credits) during the 1 + 4 years. For those who have outstanding academic performance in their specialized field, they are allowed to take a few master degree courses offered by graduate programs in the fifth year of their study. In the sixth year (i.e., the final 1 year), they can complete the rest of required credits for a master degree and finish a research thesis after approved by the department. In so doing, they can acquire adequate Chinese language ability and obtain both bachelor and master degrees within 6 years.

Other Admission Information 1. Each academic year begins on August 1 and ends on July 31 of the following year. The first semester usually begins in mid- or late-September, and the second semester begins in late February of the following year. 2. International students may apply for scholarships for the first semester while applying for admission. They may apply for scholarships for the subsequent semester at the end of every semester. FIRST TECH Scholarship: (1)Tuition Waiver: Total/ Partial (2)Scholarship: The amount may vary every year. 3. FIRST TECH will hold a Chinese Proficiency Test for all new international students right after school starts. New students will be assigned to a proper level of Chinese course according to the test result. 4. The following International Students tuition rates apply only applicable to the 2012 academic year. (The rates are expected to vary annually thereafter.) (3) On-campus Dormitory: All degree international students are guaranteed with on-campus dormitories, and each room has four beds. Besides, the dorm staff works 24 hours a day to offer assistance. There are a variety of facilities such as Internet access, cafeterias, washing machines, reading rooms, grocery shops, and recreation rooms to satisfy students daily needs. More than that, outside of dormitories, there are a track and field stadium, a baseball filed, an indoor swimming pool and a gym. (Note: The use of the swimming pool and the gym shall be charged.)

Air conditioner may be operated using a pre-paid card. Off-campus Dormitory: FIRST TECH will not be responsible for students who want to live off-campus. (4) Other expenses: Book expenses vary according to the courses taken. Meals on campus cost around NT$4,000 per month, whereas meals off campus cost around NT$6,000 per month.

Affidavit for the Admission Application of International Students

1. I, the undersigned applicant, affirm that I am neither an overseas Chinese student nor an R.O.C. citizen. 2. The highest level diploma which I present (senior high school or technical junior college for undergraduates, bachelor's or master's for graduate students) is recognized as legal and valid within the country where the school is located and is presumed to be equivalent to the comparable diploma/degree offered in the R.O.C. If the above offence is discovered after his or her graduation, his or her diploma and graduation status will be revoked.
