When a substance is heated, its particles begin moving more and thus usually maintain a
greater average separation. Materials which contract with increasing temperature are rare;
this effect is limited in size, and only occurs within limited temperature ranges (see
examples below). The degree of expansion divided by the change in temperature is called
the material's coefficient of thermal expansion and generally varies with temperature.
In Supercritical Boilers selecting the material on the Low Mean Coefficient of Thermal

considered as non -beneficial property.

The melting point of a solid is the temperature at which it changes state from solid to
liquid. At the melting point the solid and liquid phase exist in equilibrium. The
melting point of a substance depends (usually slightly) on pressure and is usually
specified at standard atmospheric pressure.

3.3.1.Material Composition
Material composition of Haynes HR-120 is Fe 33%, Ni 37%, Co 3%, Cr 25%, Mo 2.5%, W
2.5%, Cb 0.7%, Mn 0.7%, Si 0.6%, N 0.2%, Al 0.1%, C 0.05%, B0.004%,[23] furnished in the
solution annealed condition, unless otherwise specified. Depending on the product form, the
alloy is solution annealed at a temperature ranging from 2150 to 2250 deg. F (1175 to 1230
deg. C) and rapidly cooled. provides excellent strength at elevated temperature combined
with very good resistance to carburizing and sulfidizing environments. Its oxidation
resistance is comparable to other widely used Fe-Ni-Cr materials; Applications include those
which require high strength combined with good resistance to carburizing and sulfidizing
environments.
Material composition of Haynes (HR-214) is Ni 75%, Cr 16%, Al 4.5%, Fe 3%, Mn 0.5%, Si
0.2%, Zr 0.1%, C 0.05%, B 0.01%, Y 0.01%[24] the solution heat-treated condition, unless
otherwise specified. The alloy is normally solution heat-treated at2000F (1095C HAYNES
214 alloy combines properties which make it very suitable for service in relatively low-stress,
high temperature oxidizing environments, where the utmost in resistance to oxidation or
scale exfoliation is needed. Its resistance to such environments persists to temperatures as
high as 2400F (1315C),
Haynes 230 is composed of Ni 57%, Cr 22%, W 14%, Mo 2%, Fe 3%, Co 5%, Mn 0.5%, Si
0.4%, Al 0.3%, C 0.10%, La 0.02%, B 0.015% [25]. HAYNES 230 alloy is a nickel
chromium-tungsten-molybdenum alloy that combines excellent high-temperature strength,
outstanding resistance to oxidizing environments up to 2100F (1149C) for prolonged
Inconel alloy 625 has the following materials in composition - Ni 62%, Co 1%, Fe 5%, Cr
21%, Mo 9%, Cb & Ta 3.7%, Mn 0.5%, Si 0.5%, Al 0.4%, Ti 0.4%, C 0.10% [29]. Alloy 625 has
good oxidation resistance at temperatures up to 1800F(980C) and provides good resistance
to aqueous corrosion, but generally not as effectively as modern HASTELLOY corrosion
resistant alloys. It provides excellent service in short term applications at temperatures up to
approximately 1500F (815C); however, for long-term elevated temperature service, use of
alloy 625 is best restricted to a maximum of 1100F (595C). Long-term thermal exposure of
alloy 625 above 1100F (595C) will result in significant embrittlement.
Material composition of 718 Incoloy-718 is Ni 52%, Co 1%, Fe 19%, Cr 18%, Mo 3%, Cb & Ta
5%, Mn 0.35%, Si 0.35%, Al 0.5%, Ti 0.9%, C 0.05%, B 0.009%, Cu 0.1% [21]. HAYNES 718
alloy is normally only used for component applications up to 1200F (650C); however, its
oxidation resistance is comparable to that for other gamma-prime strengthened super alloys.
HAYNES 718 alloy is produced in the form of sheet, strip, plate, bar, billet, wire, and tubular
products.
Material composition of Haynes 160 is Ni 37%, Co29%, Cr 28%, Fe 2%, Si 2.75%, Mn 0.5%, Ti
0.5%, C 0.05%, W 1%, Mo 1%, Cb 1% [30]. HR-160alloy is furnished in the solution annealed
condition, unless otherwise specified. The alloy is solution annealed at 2050F (1121C) and
rapidly cooled for optimum properties. HAYNES HR-160alloy is covered by ASME Vessel
Code case No. 2162 for Section VIII Division 1 construction to 1500F (816C). HAYNESHR160 alloy combines properties which make it highly useful for service in severe hightemperature corrosive environments.
Material composition of Haynes -242 becomes Ni 65%, Mo 26%, Cr 9.0%, Fe 2.0%, Co 2.5%,
Mn 0.80%, Si 0.80%, Al 0.50%, C 0.03%, B 0.006%, Cu 0.50% [33], that alloy is an agehardenable nickel molybdenum-chromium alloy which derives its strength from a longrange ordering reaction upon aging. It has tensile and creep strength properties up to 13000F
(7050C) which are as much as double those for solid solution strengthened alloys, but with
high ductility in the aged condition. HAYNES 242 alloy combines properties which make it
ideally suited for a variety of component applications in the aerospace industry
Material composition of Haynes -556 is Fe 31%, Ni 20%, Co 18%, Cr 22%, Mo 3%, W 2.5%, Ta
0.6%, N 0.20%, Si 0.4%, Mn 1%, Al 0.2%, C 0.10%, La 0.02%, Zr 0.02% [34], HAYNES 556
alloy is an iron-nickel-chromium-cobalt alloy that combines effective resistance to
sulfidizing, carburizing and chlorine-bearing environments at high temperatures with good
oxidation resistance, fabricability, and excellent high-temperature strength. It has also been
found to resist corrosion by molten chloride salts and other salts, and is resistant to
corrosion from molten zinc. HAYNES 556 alloy combines properties which make it highly
useful for service at elevated temperature in moderately to severely corrosive environments.
